00:30I mean, you took the words out of my mouth.
00:33I was going to say more than ever I think it's important to believe in magia.
00:37And I, myself, have been struggling for the last couple of years
00:42looking for something to believe in.
00:48Especially, you know, living in America right now.
00:53In this sequel, Stargirl is more central
00:57and a relationship with your character Anna too.
01:02How emotional was that journey for you
01:04and to explore that with Grace Vanderwolf?
01:08Well, Grace is incredible and she's an incredible actress.
01:12And I felt like we came together to make this movie
01:18not, like, knowing each other, not having spent a ton of time together
01:22because of the pandemic.
01:23So, you know, maybe in another time
01:25we would have been able to, like, hang out a little bit
01:27before we started shooting. That was not an option.
01:29And I think, weirdly, like, I leaned into that
01:34because I thought, like, this is a time for Anna
01:37and for Stargirl, Anna's my character,
01:39that they are on different journeys
01:41and Anna's decided to put herself first
01:43for the first time in her life.
01:45And so it's okay that they are not really connecting right now.
01:49And I think that's part of Anna's story
01:51is, like, finding her autonomy
01:53but also, like, reconnecting with her daughter
01:56as she's an adult, really.
01:58Your character works in Hollywood as a costume designer.
02:03In fact, all the outfits of Stargirl are the proof of that.
02:07How it was to play a costume designer
02:10and not, as often happens, an actress on screen?
02:14Yeah, it was really cool
02:16because I had the greatest wardrobe I think
02:19I maybe have ever had in a movie
02:20or at least in the last 15 years.
02:24Every time I went to work, I mean, we had great fittings.
02:27The costume designer, Natalie O'Brien, is clearly a genius.
02:31What she did with my character and with Stargirl's character,
02:34I loved how creative Stargirl was with the way she dressed.
02:38And that's a lot of Grace as well.
02:40Grace herself dresses very avant-garde
02:43and really expresses herself, like, through clothing.
02:47And it was fun to see the journey of, like, a mother-daughter
02:51who clearly share this love, but they don't dress the same.
02:55You know what I mean?
02:56Like, they don't, like, mimic each other.
02:57So I think their characters were really, like, told through these, the wardrobe.
03:03And I also think it's fun to play a character that is a person that I know.
03:08I mean, I've done over a hundred jobs.
03:11I've worked with over a hundred costume designers.
03:13So it was really fun to, like, kind of tip my hat to them.
03:18You gave me something that I believed only existed in the film.
03:23And I've had a lot of other things.
03:27Something that I never expected.
03:34This was very good.
03:36Let's pause.
