00:32I was soloing the route quite regularly, and one time I just decided to see how long it would take
00:40me. And then I got to the top and checked the time, and I was like, oh, it was like
00:43two or three minutes faster than the established record. And suddenly, Alex Arnold came back to Squamish to get his
00:52record back on the grand wall that had kind of like unintentionally broken.
00:57I was like, oh, man, I'm going to go fast.
01:02Like, totally destroyed it. Like, you know, he cut my time in half.
01:05I think I did, like, quite a bit faster.
01:07Here I am in God, right?
01:10Enough so that it discouraged Mark from ever wanting to try again.
01:16Mark is a very, very driven climber, but he doesn't care about accolades. He doesn't even care if anybody ever
01:21knows what he's climbing.
01:22I've always approached climbing from slightly more of an athletic background. I grew up climbing in the gym, and I
01:26think of it more as a sport.
01:28But he definitely cares about, I don't want to say the spiritual component, but he cares about the experience in
01:33the mountains and the journey and just wants to have a good time while he's out there.
01:36And I really respect that. I mean, it's, yeah, I mean, obviously it contributes to performing at such a crazy
01:43level.
