00:00I absolutely believe that it saves the world, absolutely.
00:16On the rooftop, the other guys say to Malcolm that he should be a director.
00:22So I want to ask you, what does it mean being a director for you?
00:27Um, well, I mean, it means that you have more control in telling the story the way you want to
00:39tell it.
00:41It means that you are just involved in the whole storytelling process in just a much deeper way than as
00:55an actor.
00:55I will always be an actor.
00:57I love acting, but it's galvanizing on another level as a director because you're working with so many crew members.
01:07As an actor, you're pretty much only working with your castmates, the director, wardrobe designer, you know, prop master.
01:18But that's about it.
01:19And this is a beautiful story of friendship, friends that are also tough to each other because they love each
01:29other so much.
01:30So how important is to have a friend that always tells you the truth?
01:36Oh, very important.
01:38I think, you know, I always say it's, it's, it's important to have, that's what's so great about this foursome,
01:44right?
01:45Um, you know, you, you, you need a friend that's always honest.
01:49You need a friend that doesn't give you advice, but they're an accomplice.
01:54You need a friend that does give you advice and you need a friend that just listens, you know, um,
02:02off of, and I have all of those, you know, like you, when you're going through certain things, you kind
02:08of figure out, okay.
02:09You know, I don't need advice, I need an accomplice, I need somebody to mess with me.
02:15And then sometimes you're like, you know, I need someone to just really help me see this clearer.
02:20So I think it's important to have that.
02:22The main characters, um, the one who wants to be an actor, Sam Cooke that wants to simply write songs,
02:30are almost ashamed that they're doing simple things.
02:33But then, uh, Sam Cooke's song, uh, was quoted by Barack Obama on his election speech, uh, when he said,
02:42it's been a long time coming, but tonight change has come to America.
02:45So maybe songs, movies can be simple things, but do you believe that they can change the world, art can
02:53change the world or not?
02:55I absolutely believe art can change the world.
02:58Absolutely.
02:58I mean, I think all of us have had, um, a song, a film, an episode of a television show,
03:07a season of a television show, or just one character of a piece that has moved us or changed us
03:17or kind of, um, shifted our vision to, to, to, to be able to see something in a different way,
03:25or, or, or see something in a way that we understand, uh, is possible that we may not have ever,
03:34um, considered because our circumstances just never exposes to that.
03:39Right.
03:39Like so often do you learn, we learn things through art that we would have never known because we all
03:47have different backgrounds.
03:48So I absolutely feel like, uh, and, and, and we've witnessed where life is imitated art, you know?
03:56Yeah.
03:57Yeah.
03:58Thank you so much.
03:59You are amazing.
03:59And I hope to see you to the Oscar night very soon.
04:04Bye.
04:05Bye.
04:05Welcome to America.
04:06Welcome to America.
