00:25In the movie they say that pain is an opportunity to grow and to glow, so I wanted
00:34to ask you, how can we glow from pain?
00:39It's funny how there's a moment where Chang'e takes one of Fei Fei's tears and sends it
00:50off, and you watch it go off in the distance, and it becomes like a star, and there's a
00:56beauty to pain.
00:58The tears of joy are just on the other side of the tears of pain, of sorrow, and at the
01:06end of the movie, I had a choice.
01:11Fei Fei's hair design is an expression of the pain that she went through.
01:18It's just an explosion.
01:19It's chaos, and Fei Fei says to Gobi in the movie, I just wish things could go back the
01:26way they were, a time where there's no pain, and where my mom was alive, and she wants to
01:35go back, but life is not like that.
01:39You go forward.
01:40You don't go backwards, and you go through the pain, and at the end of the movie, we were
01:47wondering, well, now that she's gone through this healing, should we go back to her hair?
01:53Does she let it grow?
01:56And I thought, no, no, she should not.
01:59The pain that we go through, we bring with us, because that's part of who we are.
02:04That's the character.
02:05That's part of our beauty, and I would say that we lean into the pain, the sorrow.
02:14That's part of what we are called to live through in life, and that we will grow in compassion
02:22for others because of that.
02:25I love the food in this movie.

02:32How important is to have a meal with the people we love?
02:37How important is sharing food, cakes, mooncakes?
02:43Yeah, well, I experienced that in real life going to China.
02:49We were invited into a Chinese family's home, and it's always around a big round table.
02:57Everybody's there with the lazy Susan going in the middle, and there's such honesty in that
03:03family when I met the artists in China.
03:08I asked them to tell me about themselves.
03:10I thought everybody was going to tell me about what art school they went to.
03:14Instead, they talked about what their favorite noodle, noodle from the northern province of
03:21China, or a flat, skinny noodle from the southern province.
03:25And I realized food was like a symbol of the family, that they all share it together.
03:35They share life together.
03:36And at the beginning of the movie, Fei-Fei is there in this family setting, a round table,
03:42but she's in conflict with everybody.
03:47And at the end, Fei-Fei will be around that same family, the honesty of that family, but
03:54now she's going to be in harmony.
03:56Nobody else has changed, but she has.
03:58She now sees others with new eyes of love.
04:03And the food that's shared was such an important part of it.
04:07We were very, very careful that the food was authentic.
