00:01Weddings are particular events.
00:03Some people fixate about what the bride will wear.
00:06But your reporter, on the other hand, is obsessed about the wedding cake.
00:10Because, as in the real world,
00:12what matters is not only its overall size,
00:15but also how big a piece you get.
00:17And right now the EU slice of the global wealth cake is getting smaller.
00:22And one proposed solution to fix it
00:24is to finally merge Europe's fragmented financial landscape
00:27into a single unified market.
00:30Or, in plain English,
00:32instead of baking 27 separate cupcakes,
00:34Europe wants one giant cake.
00:37The EU will account for only around 13 of the global GDP in 2030,
00:42which is below the US and way below China.
00:45And foreseeing this, Enrico Letta's 2024 reports
00:48argued Europe needs deeper financial integration,
00:52calling from a shift from 27 regulatory realities to just one.
00:56This strategy aims to mobilize the estimated 10 trillion euros
01:00in European household savings currently sitting in a low-interest bank deposit
01:05or flowing into Wall Street.
01:07By removing national barriers,
01:09the plan channels this money into productive investments,
01:12allowing innovative companies to scale up across the block
01:15without relying solely on bank financing or even moving to Silicon Valley.
01:19And this week, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain
01:24saw the six largest economies in the EU pushed to accelerate this agenda.
01:29In a joint letter, they are urging Brussels to reach an agreement
01:33on integrating capital markets by this summer.
01:36But one can ask, why hasn't this cake been baked yet?
01:40While the recipe might sound great,
01:42member states are still arguing over details.
01:45Smaller countries fear the framework could hurt their national markets.
01:50And these technical disputes keep slowing the process.
01:53However, the discussions will continue among EU leaders
01:56during the European Council summit next week.
01:59So if you are into money, investment or just baking,
02:03stay tuned for more!
