00:01Pass the aux cord and crank up the volume.
00:05Figgy Figg's in the driver's seat.
00:07Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
00:10It's time for Figgy's Mixtape on Sports Radio 610.
00:15Yes, it is the Mixtape in the Loop, Sports Radio 610.
00:18It's your man, Figgy Figg, holding it down on a Thursday.
00:21Happy Thursday to everyone out there.
00:24Still got a chance to win some rodeo tickets.
00:26That's right.
00:26Tim McGraw at the Houston Livestock Show on Rodeo.
00:30Just keep listening in this hour, but we got to get the business, man.
00:35J.J. Watt, he tweeted this, and we had this conversation many times
00:41when it comes to how to tip in a restaurant and all that, the whole tip culture.
00:47Yeah.
00:47And that always creates a divide.
00:49But I saw what J.J. Watt tweeted, and I'm going to kind of go through it.
00:53He pretty much laid out a scenario on, I don't know if it happened to him
00:58or he just randomly threw it out there if it happened to somebody else.
01:02But here's what J.J. Watt tweeted.
01:05He said, genuine question on a restaurant situation.
01:09You walk up to a counter to order.
01:11You find your own table and seat yourself.
01:15If you order coffee, they hand you a cup, and you go fill it up yourself.
01:19If you order food, they hand you a buzzer, and when it goes off, you go pick it up yourself.
01:24Mm-hmm.
01:25Mm-hmm.
01:25The iPad has a 20%, 25%, 30%.
01:29Oh, that's nasty business.
01:31Other tip option.
01:31What?
01:32With 20% already pre-selected.
01:34Dude.
01:35What's your move?
01:37What's the move?
01:38Other 0.00.
01:40All right.
01:40You know what offends me the most?
01:42That you started at 20 and you went up.
01:44Mm-hmm.
01:45You jerks.
01:45At least have the decency to start at 15.
01:48And honestly, if you're being real, the restaurant he described, start at 10.
01:52You might get it.
01:53Starting at 20 makes me go, I'm doing the extra work, you jerk.
01:570.00.
01:58Ain't no way.
01:58My favorite part is, if you order coffee, here's a cup.
02:01Go get it yourself.
02:02Yeah.
02:02And then you come back and pick up the food.
02:05Look, I was always told until all these things started happening, and they're all over now.
02:09We were talking before the show.
02:10We went to a place downstairs that didn't used to have anything.
02:14And now, you're ordering, you're picking it up, all that stuff.
02:17And they have 20, 25, 30, same thing.
02:20I was always told, for to-go orders, not always told, but I've always abided by, if I'm going
02:27to pick up food, I still give them 10% just for the effort and what they're doing.
02:32Obviously, in the restaurant, 20%.
02:34Some people go with 15%.
02:36That's fine.
02:37But 20, 25, and 30 for like a coffee shop where you're doing all the work, what they're
02:43banking on is you being just lazy and just pressing one of them.
02:46Or also, just having the shame of, I'm looking directly at this person.
02:50Yeah, yeah.
02:52Someone got me on that recently.
02:53There was a place where I typically just would not tip.
02:56And I was just like, man, I feel bad looking right into this person's face here.
02:58It's hitting zero.
02:59And yes, I am weak in that moment, too.
03:01It happens at times.
03:02No, it's funny because when I used to work at Starbucks, we always used to joke around
03:06about that because people used to always feel guilty or try to look kind of weird when they
03:12don't tip.
03:12Yeah.
03:13And we used to joke around like, man, we'll give a damn about that $2 spend.
03:18Like, real talk.
03:19Like, I understand that's a little different from maybe a restaurant who might not be making
03:23the same wage we making, but people always think it's, oh, let me tip this $2.25.
03:32It's just like, you do or you don't.
03:35You know, one thing I've always wondered.
03:36But we don't care if you don't.
03:37You might have the answer to this since you worked there not long ago.
03:41So, when you hit, like, let's say you hit customize and you only give 10% on a pickup
03:47order and then you just, you know, you press whatever, you're out of it.
03:52Do they know anyway, even before you turn the, before you turn the tablet back?
03:56So, this is the thing.
03:58When I was working at Starbucks, they didn't have that.
04:00Oh, okay.
04:01They really didn't have that.
04:02It was just really a tip jar.
04:04So, it wasn't a thing where I flip it around and then I see what you put and I flip
04:09it back
04:09around like, oh, this person didn't tip.
04:12So, I ain't about to give them good service or anything like that.
04:14I'm not, I think it's like that now.
04:16But do they still know, even though it's not on the screen anymore?
04:19You know what I'm saying?
04:20Like, if you do a customized 10%, boom, exit.
04:24Probably so, because if you know how much the order is, if it's $2.29 and you flip it
04:30around and you flip it back, then it's like, okay, total was $5.
04:35Yeah.
04:35Yeah.
04:35I think so.
04:36But I don't know if workers are really that pissed off if you say no tip or anything.
04:43Yeah.
04:43It might be different than an actual restaurant because you're probably working for those
04:47tips.
04:48But I do have something.
04:50So, shout out to my guy, Young Ari Go on Twitter.
04:53He tweeted this.
04:55And I want to see how y'all feel about this.
04:57He said this.
04:58My 13-year-old created a rule which, to me, makes sense.
05:02And now, this is how I operate it.
05:04If I'm standing up and ordering, no tip.
05:07If I'm sitting down and ordering, tip.
05:11How do you feel about that?
05:12I mean, I get the general ideas.
05:14If it feels like somebody is doing some work, you know, actually serving you when it comes
05:19to bringing your food, putting in your order, like, you know, checking on you, making sure
05:23that you have your drink filled.
05:24I get that.
05:25The thing that upsets me is that this doesn't feel all that dissimilar from the conversation
05:29that we've had about, like, Southwest Airlines, where it does feel like we're getting nickel
05:33to dime.
05:34When I select that I want to buy this, go ahead and put all of the cost of it on
05:39the front
05:39end, right?
05:39And I feel the same way about tipping culture in general, because we've gotten to it.
05:44We've reached, like, a tipping point.
05:45No pun intended.
05:46I just want to...
05:47I looked at the menu.
05:49It's, say, $15.
05:50Why is it that I'm going to end up paying $23 by the time we get to taxes and this
05:55tip
05:55and everything, especially just to make sure that this person is compensated well?
06:00Whatever we need to compensate, I actually feel better if it's, say, $23 up on the board
06:03so I know this.
06:04Yeah, and that's it.
06:04And that's the end of the conversation.
06:06I don't have to figure out.
06:08I don't have to do math.
06:08I don't have to do 20%, 25%.
06:10Just let's agree on what it costs to make this thing, give me the food or whatever,
06:16the product that I have, and pay the person appropriately, and then we'll just do that.
06:20How do you feel about the gratuity for some places?
06:24Because I like it sometimes because it's like, all right, you're getting what you're getting
06:29out of it already, so I ain't got to do the math unless I want to tip you more.
06:33Oh, you mean it's already included?
06:34Yeah.
06:35Yeah.
06:36It's something.
06:36Oh, when you have like a table of five or more people.
06:39Wait, wait.
06:39I was getting there, too.
06:40Oh.
06:41Sometimes, like, it's getting bad to the point it's there when it's two people.
06:46Yeah.
06:46Like, I didn't went to some places, just me and my wife.
06:49You got to look at the receipt, man.
06:50I'm just like, damn, y'all included it already?
06:53Actually, you talk about getting got with the question of the day.
06:55That's when I was getting gots where you put that tip in and you put like 25% and you
06:59find out they already had 18%, so now you didn't tip to something like 40%.
07:03That part getting so bad to the point, it was one lady that was like, yeah, the gratuity
07:08is on there, but we only get a certain amount of it, so if you tip in cash, then I
07:13get it.
07:13It all goes for me.
07:14Oh, she, come on.
07:15She skimmed you.
07:15Come on.
07:16She skimmed you.
07:17I'm like, yo.
07:18I'm like, damn.
07:19This is me you're talking to.
07:20Yeah.
07:21So you don't want to split all of that money with your coworkers.
07:26Yes, that too.
07:26You want to get all of that for you, too.
07:29I'm like, damn.
07:30So why did they put it on there, then?
07:33Man, and the other thing is, you have to look at the receipt because it'll say gratuity,
07:37and then you're like, oh, I just, you notice it sometimes late.
07:42Yeah.
07:45It's a mid-stave in the Loop Sports Radio 610.
07:48Kelly Clarkson.
07:49Kelly Clarkson.
07:50She's actually performing at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo this Saturday, and for those
07:56who don't know, she was the very first winner of American Idol way back in 2002, which seemed
08:02like it was just, yeah, that was 0-2.
08:05Okay, yeah, she's from Fort Worth.
08:06I always be forgetting.
08:07I know she's from Texas where?
08:08Fort Worth.
08:08Yeah, yeah.
08:09So she got her own show on NBC, the Kelly Clarkson show, and she had a guy by the name,
08:14I think his name is Rob Roush, and he was the winner of this mystery show called The
08:20Traitors.
08:21Are you familiar with The Traitors?
08:22Oh, I was addicted.
08:24I've heard of it, but I never watched it.
08:26I was addicted.
08:27We just finished it last week.
08:29Okay, so he was the winner.
08:30Hopefully I didn't spoil it for you, but he's the winner of the fourth season of The Traitor.
08:35Yeah.
08:35And he was mentioning how he still didn't receive his prize money, and that led Kelly
08:42Clarkson on a rant about America Idol, and she had to pull the curtain back a little bit.
08:48But wait, so you're, is it $220,800 richer now?
08:52Is that what it is?
08:53I think that's right.
08:53That's a nice number.
08:54So what was the moment you took that in?
08:57That changes your life.
08:58You paid me.
08:59Oh.
08:59Oh.
09:00This is, let me, you know what?
09:03I relate to this.
09:04Put the pressure on.
09:05I relate to this so hardcore, because whenever I won, they sold my, you probably weren't alive
09:09when I was on American Idol, but I, but I literally was on the show, and they were like,
09:13oh, you win a million dollars or whatever.
09:15No, no, no.
09:16No, you didn't.
09:17They lied.
09:18You did not.
09:19What did you do?
09:19It was like a million dollars worth of investment in you.
09:24Like, you know what I'm saying?
09:25Yes!
09:26I didn't know that.
09:27and then and then they said you get a car and i needed it because my car was bashed in
09:31and i
09:31couldn't afford the deductible and i and then and no i did not get a car and then
09:37who didn't win the second season got a car and his mom
09:45unbelievable i was like what
09:49i remember clay telling me that the second season he was like yeah they gave my mom when i was
09:53like
09:53i'm gonna actually kick your ass right now i'd run up on simon count i'd be like where my car
09:59at my
09:59boy so she did not get that million that it wasn't a million you know that million dollars in like
10:04investing in you promotion and all that stuff and she didn't get no car and you know what the great
10:09scam of a million dollars of investing in you we pay for mo promo how much that costs i don't
10:14know
10:14they told us it was a million dollars yeah exactly just we can just say whatever say whatever what
10:18does it actually cost nobody knows there's no market for this by the way rob on the traders didn't like
10:22him huh really didn't like okay why you ain't like him he was slimy man he was this ain't like
10:27this whole show is kind of yeah no no it's a great show by the way trader by the way
10:32if you haven't
10:32finished watching it uh spoiler alert but i'm gonna try to be straightforward he just did this season
10:38just in probably about a month ago three weeks ago uh he stabbed everybody in the back he stabbed
10:44everybody in the back so i didn't like him uh it's a great show absolutely great show but i totally
10:49believe that she didn't get any of this hey you couldn't tell yeah yeah you could absolutely
10:55tell the sincerity in her voice um so i hey she didn't get that car yeah and then somebody else
11:02got a car for them and they mama i would have been pissed man she's doing all right now though
11:09thankfully like at least at least we can laugh about this hey she signed on the paper she signed
11:13on the bottom line okay no that's what they're telling her she signed the contract read the fine
11:17print it's not actual dollars it's an investment in yeah it's one million dollar hairs yeah no i would
11:24have been and clearly she wanted the car she needed the car but i would have been pissed off oh
11:29yeah
11:29how'd they get a car and i didn't
11:34all right it's the mistake in the loop sports radio 16 and look we got our first wild out
11:40with a customer inside of a waymo and i was wondering how long this was going to take somebody
11:45just being in the back of the waymo just acting the fool and no i can only imagine what this
11:51is here's
11:51a young lady having the time of her life in the back of a waymo
12:03connected to writer support this call may be recorded for quality
12:07hello this is jay with waymo i'm just calling in just to request to buckle your seat though for your
12:13safety okay thank you thank you all right oh where are you i'm doing it right now okay i'm buckled
12:21in
12:26all right thank you for complying that's all for me have a good day goodbye bye
12:30that's she got scared straight she's like she's well i would too because my immediate thought was oh
12:36they're watching it here yeah yeah that's what a lot of people saying they were saying i mean
12:41i think we had that conversation too how do they know we got our seat belt buck or what will
12:47happen
12:47will they stop the car or anything like that they people were saying that they probably was watching
12:53her while out in the back and then just say you know what let's cut this music off yeah hey
12:59we will
12:59turn it we will turn this waymo around we would turn this car around young lady put that seat belt
13:04do you think it's actual cameras in the car or is it i wouldn't put it past it well there
13:08could be
13:08like you know the the sensors there's a sensor on the seat belt there's a sensor on the radio it's
13:12too loud you know etc it wouldn't surprise me i think it's man they probably camera they probably
13:18won't admit it and like i got so many questions about this whole waymo thing like i'm really curious
13:24when does somebody throw up get drunk and throw up in the back of it like well then that's when
13:29they
13:29get the door dash driver to go over there and clean it up i'm just i'm just really dollars an
13:32hour yeah
13:32i'm just really curious because i'm surprised it took this long for
13:35to get a video somebody just wilding out acting a fool in the back yeah did you also see the
13:41waymo
13:41that got stuck between the tracks and the uh in the railroad uh our safety arm he barely missed it
13:47too man hey and there are more and more driverless in houston i've seen probably two this week a couple
13:52last week they're here man yeah they are yeah yeah that that seeing that waymo get trapped between
13:59the guard arm and the tracks themselves really scared me because there's certain places like even san
14:04francisco where we were at and we saw some of them i was like all right houston got a lot
14:09of odd
14:09places road-wise where i'm like can an automated car account for these difficult things and seeing
14:16seeing it get caught between the guard arm and the railroad made me think maybe not yeah i was even
14:22thinking as far as the uh construction because sometimes the gps had you going somewhere where it's
14:27like oh this bridge is closed yeah yeah i wonder how smart it is for it to reroute or is
14:33this or try to go
14:34across this bridge that no longer exist yeah like that one off of i10 over there yeah uh 832 says
14:41their vehicles at work track seatbelt everything else is from gps that's what i was wondering but
14:46another one said that there are cameras in waymo yeah i wouldn't especially because as a company if
14:51you need to like you know go back and review or see if something happened like it might be a
14:55situation
14:56that happened in the back of waymo if it's some people have cameras in the ubers so it wouldn't
15:02surprise me if they had cameras inside of a waymo yeah especially if ain't no ain't nobody in there
15:08controlling the car like that so when you get in there put your seat belt on and act like you
15:12got
15:12some sense yeah sit back and shut up that's right
