00:00The U.S. has launched a new investigation into several of its trading partners,
00:05including the EU, China and even Malaysia.
00:08The probe will allow Washington to impose import taxes on countries
00:12found to have engaged in what they deemed to be unfair trade practices.
00:17According to U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer,
00:20the investigation could lead to new levies by mid-2026.
00:24He said officials hope to conclude the review before temporary tariffs
00:28introduced by U.S. President Donald Trump in February expire in July.
00:33Greer claimed the U.S. can no longer sacrifice its industrial base
00:37to countries exporting their problems with excess capacity and production.
00:41Other countries under review include Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Singapore,
00:46Indonesia, Bangladesh, Switzerland, Norway, India, Japan, South Korea and Mexico.
00:52The move comes weeks after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that tariffs imposed by Trump
00:56on multiple countries last April were unlawful.
00:59Soon after the decision, Trump announced a new global tariff of 10 percent
01:04and has since threatened to raise it to 15 percent.
