00:00I love you.
00:31Well, Macau has always been a very special destination in our hearts because it actually
00:37combines, I would say, the best of both the Eastern as well as the Western world.
00:42When Portuguese sailors came out from Portugal, they passed through Africa, they passed through
00:47India, and then eventually Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Malacca was another
00:52post where they went to.
00:54And then eventually they settled down in Macau.
00:56And these almost 500 years of exchange between the Portuguese and the Chinese resulted in
01:02a lot of very good food, which we call our Macanese cuisine, where people love that very,
01:07very much.
01:08But at the same time, these also resulted in very iconic buildings where you can see Chinese
01:14temples right next to European churches.
01:17So you can hop from a Western religion to a Chinese religion, all in the same district.
01:27Nowadays, we're getting visitors from all over the world.
01:30We're talking about last year, 40 million visitors.
01:33Obviously, a very big bulk of them come from mainland China, from Hong Kong, as well as from
01:37Chinese Taipei.
01:38But we're seeing also quite a lot of people coming out of Europe.
01:42In Macau, obviously, hotels are a very big part of their new development.
01:47But at the same time, we do have a lot of new themed entertainment.
01:50We have the Grand Prix Museum.
01:53We have resident shows like the House of Dancing Water or Macau 2019, where you see robots dancing
01:59as well.
02:00Besides that, we also have festivities happening every month.
02:03And these can range from more traditional things like Chinese New Year festivities, the Dragon
02:08World festivals, to more modern things like light festivals, fireworks contests, or even gastronomy-related
02:17events.
02:18So there's always something to choose from.
02:23In China, there is a very popular saying in tourism.
02:29They're saying that to be an elite, you should not only read 1,000 books.
02:36You should travel 1,000 miles.
02:39Travel actually is kind of the best way, direct way, for people to know each other's cultures.
02:45And this will enhance mutual understanding, I think.
02:50It's very important.
