00:033, 2, 1, go!
00:09We had 1,500 cast and crew on the beach in West Pembrokeshire in Wales.
00:13We had 9 standard cameras, a Steadicam and a Westcam and a helicopter.
00:18Right from day one it felt bigger than Gladiator.
00:22In terms of sheer scale, what we did up in Wales was quite something.
00:26It was a huge, long, very wide beach.
00:30You look at it when the tide was out and think to yourself,
00:32how are we ever going to fill that up and make it look like a proper invasion?
00:38I guess the answer was just thousands and thousands of people.
00:43I was scared out of my mind every single day there
00:46because we got 180 horses riding side by side galloping down the beach.
00:51You have no idea where the cameras are and it feels like you're in the war.
00:54It really felt like you were in a battle.
00:57In Wales, I remember riding out of the surf
01:00and as I wheeled round, in front of me were 150 horsemen galloping towards me
01:06and out of that I had to pick out the two guys who I was due to fight
01:09and basically slash one around the head and take one around the chest
01:13and they fell off their horses and it was incredibly exhilarating.
01:17It was amazing.
01:18The tide comes in on the beach that we made this film on.
01:21It's a very shallow rise, which means when the tide comes in, it comes rushing in.
01:26We were moving the entire production in 50-foot increments to get the scene
01:30and we had to re-establish the beginning of the scene with 500 people
01:34and you had to move all those people and they did it right away
01:38and the most amazing part about it was the spirit of the extras.
01:41You guys ready?
01:42Yes!
01:43Form up and then stand by to move everything up the beach.
01:47Something very interesting about walking into a field and there's nothing there
01:50and all of a sudden you get 500 people together,
01:52you get all the horses going, you get the stunt people going
01:54and all of a sudden you've got a battle.
01:56When you see it and it works and it looks good, that's the really satisfying thing.
