00:07I sat down to write this movie and I thought what do they want to see and then I immediately
00:13thought of how excited everybody was in the audience when they went to see the first one and how they
00:18all dressed up and how they were having a party and it was like they were having a party with
00:23the movie and I thought I want the party to continue and I thought always I think what have we
00:28done that we what can we do the
00:29we haven't done never repeat so I thought we're away I wanted away I wanted I wanted the four girls
00:36together away from the guys away from the babies I wanted to see the sex in the city gang and
00:42I thought send them on a big extravagant send them on a big extravagant vacation I thought where can they
00:48go that I've never been that people haven't been and I thought Abu Dhabi because Samantha is a PR person
00:54at the time I sat down to write the movie PR was happening Abu Dhabi was the future
00:59they even called it that so I thought that's cool let's go there and then of course I thought it's
01:05kind of a road picture it's kind of them on the road and they're on camels and they're Bob Hope
01:11and Bing Crosby only they're in Louis Vuitton with turbans and Ray Bans it's hilarious to me
01:25one of the themes that I was working on when I sat down as a writer was the evolution
01:29the change from the past to the present to the future and Carrie wondering about who she was who she
01:36is and who she's afraid of becoming so as soon as I started thinking about past present and future I
01:40thought about the evolution
01:41so you get to see the girls even before you met them when they were in their 20s in the
01:4680s in New York and then you remember who they are now because you were them and if you were
01:5130 and you were single when the series came on now you're 40 like the girls now maybe you're married
01:57maybe you're divorced maybe you have two kids there's this weird interaction interactive evolution with the audience and the characters
02:05and my job is to always
02:07make sure it's genuine to not worry about letting people grow emotionally or physically older because the audience is growing
02:17and if you keep that all authentic there are 20 year olds that are seeing it on TV that think
02:23Samantha who's in her 50s is their friend that's an amazing accomplishment but it is an evolution it's your friends
02:29evolving it's your life you may go to the corner for drinks with your girlfriends our job is to take
02:36you to the dunes
02:45you know we've all been blessed to be able to work together for so long and when you get the
02:50right artists together and by artists I mean those four actresses Sarah Jessica Kim Cynthia and Kristen Patricia Field my
02:59art director Jeremy Conway we all have the same sort of I'm going to say spoiled taste level we all
03:06know what it was
03:07we all know we must maintain it and take it to another level but as far as working with other
03:12people I always make sure there's new people as well because you don't want the pond to stagnate you want
03:17constant new water like oh is that what you think so as much as the heads of the departments are
03:22the same there's always new creative impulses from new cameramen new producers new locations new everything so it is about
03:31our unspoken connection
03:35but also our willingness to see something new but also our willingness to see something new and say well we
03:38got to do that what that's a great idea
