00:01The most important thing that myths teach us is to go beyond the limits of our possibility.
00:10Joseph Campbell was one of the leading mythology experts of all time.
00:14He diagrammed all of our stories.
00:18He finds this one story within all the stories that we can relate to no matter where you come from.
00:24And he calls it the hero's journey.
00:26All the heroes, all the villains, they're all in there because they're all in here.
00:29This is where they come from.
00:31In other words, we're not separate from the characters we see in our movies and in our novels.
00:36They are us. It's one journey.
00:39If this past of the hero's journey is fairly simple, why then is it that everybody isn't living it?
00:45It's very difficult for a person with the media, with advertising. There's no creativity.
00:51You end up on that treadmill and you can't get off.
00:55We are each our own greatest inhibitors.
00:57The one thing that keeps people small is their fears, or as Campbell says, it's their dragons.
01:02It's a beast. It's a monster.
01:05I'll never forget seeing the ramp and this wave of fear just crashed over me.
01:11It's going from an unsatisfying life to a satisfying life by pushing through the scariest things you can imagine.
01:19I think people wake up to the fact that they're the hero of their own life when they get tired
01:24of being the victim of it.
01:25This idea that our greatest selves are still hidden, and that what we do with our lives is what makes
01:33us heroes.
01:35Once I saw what was possible with a skateboard in your hand, I had to keep going. I mean, I
01:40just wanted to fly.
01:43This is it. This is what happens when we follow our bliss. Magical things happen that we couldn't have imagined.
01:50Do something that gives you that moment.
01:52If you can do that, then you can achieve being blessed.
01:56The great obstacle for most of us is ourselves.
01:59If we can overcome that basic fear, in Campbell's terms, we can all be heroes.
02:08We'll be right back.
02:09You
