00:30when you work with a director who's never directed a feature before.
00:32I've been an admirer of Clive Owen's work for many, many years,
00:35all the way from Croupier.
00:37I really love what Clive does.
00:40But what drew me to Clive for this role was the domestic side
00:45and I think that's what interested Clive.
00:48In one scene we've got a guy who hangs someone up by the elbows,
00:51beats them unconscious, throws them to the floor,
00:55stamps on their head, throws down a business card
00:57and in the next scene he's changing his baby's diaper
01:00and making toast in a squalid flat in Deptford.
01:03I and you have a lot in common.
01:05Really? You're sitting in a seat and I'm standing with a gun in hand.
01:10Jason was my first choice for this role
01:13and when Jason decided to do the role, I was ecstatic.
01:17For someone who doesn't come with, you know, 20 years of experience,
01:20he shows the signs of someone with more than that.
01:23Danny's a really difficult character
01:26and what really pleased me was when Jason read the script,
01:29he initially went straight to Danny.
01:36The single most important thing in this film was keeping it authentic.
01:41It's quite hard to recreate 1980 London in Australia, let me tell you.
01:45I had a vision at the start of this film with lots of hand-held camera flying around,
01:50very loose, but I can't do that because I move here, I see a satellite dish.
01:56I move here, I see a parking mirror.
01:59I move there, I see a cell phone tower.
02:02It's not 1980 anymore, you know?
02:04He had to move the camera in a much more intimate way.
02:13I wanted punches that hurt.
02:15When somebody died, I wanted a sense of loss.
02:18When the cars skid it, I wanted them out of control.
02:21You'll see in this film there's a lot of stomping.
02:24There's a lot of people getting their heads stomped on,
02:26kicked in the balls, elbows to the face,
02:29old-fashioned headbutts, reverse headbutts.
02:32It's pretty thuggish, but on the whole that's how life is.
02:36The war ends when I decide it in both parts.
