00:02Do you boys want to try something?
00:04You want to make a film?
00:05You can tell me the story from the beginning and I'll film it.
00:08D'accord, d'accord.
00:10Si.
00:11Yes.
00:13Let's go.
00:15Okay, let's go.
00:17Trash is about three kids from a trash dump in Rio.
00:20They find this wallet and decide to keep it
00:23and to find out what is inside the wallet and what it means.
00:26So in that sense it's an adventure film.
00:30Next to the dump is a Catholic mission run by Martin Sheen
00:33and Rudy Maher plays a young woman who is helping out.
00:37What is it?
00:39Revelation.
00:40It's a story of corruption and it's a story of poverty
00:44and Martin really helped to get the story of the kids out to the world.
00:49It could be very dangerous.
00:50For who?
00:52For the boys, for you, for all of us.
00:55I got a call from my agent
00:57asking if I had read this book called Trash.
01:00I had not.
01:02So I got the book and read it instantly
01:04and I fell in love with the possibility of being in the movie.
01:08and when I got the part, I felt it was too good to be true
01:12and I still feel that way.
01:15The script was so fantastic
01:17and I really wanted to be a part of it.
01:19I thought it would be an incredible experience
01:21to get to work with the boys
01:23and to learn more about this world.
01:24We cast them as great actors
01:26and we were overjoyed that they both agreed to be in the film.
01:29But there's a series of coincidences here
01:31about Martin Sheen's own background
01:32in working in the Philippines
01:35on Smoky Mountain, a landfill site there
01:36in terms of his charitable work there
01:39over a million decades
01:41and Rudy Maher with her work in Africa.
01:44So they both came with a huge amount of experience
01:46and knowledge and that was vital to us
01:48and I think they both give extraordinary performances.
01:51He needs a drink.
01:56I think she's just a young, hopeful girl
02:00who's come here to try and make a difference in their lives
02:03and I certainly was able to bring things
02:06from my own experiences abroad
02:08and my own experiences volunteering to the character.
02:12Can you hear me?
02:13You know, at my age and at this time in my career,
02:16these parts are very, very rare.
02:18You know, you don't get a whole lot of screen time
02:20in an important movie.
02:23This is an important movie.
02:25To be a part of a movie that is very entertaining
02:29and touching and sweet and funny
02:31but at the same time that is sort of shedding light
02:34on a real-life issue,
02:37to me that's the best kind of movie.
02:40My motivation to accept this project was three-fold.
02:45It was the best part I've been offered in years.
02:49It is working with one of the best directors in the world,
02:53Stephen Walter,
02:54and it is working with one of the most charming actresses
02:58in the business today.
03:00So, hey, three out of three ain't bad.
03:05Through all of that,
03:07why did they stick with it?
03:10They said because it was right.
03:13That's what I'll be more than right.
03:20Let's hold it back.
03:20Okay.
03:20Grazie a tutti.
