00:31I don't know what I'm doing
00:32And I did my own stunts
00:38Thankfully there was a great team to support me
00:40And that team starts with Phil Lord and Chris Miller
00:42The directors
00:44They told me there are no small parts
00:47Just small actors
00:49Which is why they hired me
00:50A tiny plastic actor with zero experience
00:53I never have any ideas
00:57Some days were very hard
00:59Which you can see here
01:00With them reclining in their air-conditioned theater
01:02But it wasn't all fun and games
01:04And plush chairs
01:05They had lots of stressful decisions to make
01:07I feel like there's some example
01:08Like a day when we're really stressed out
01:11Like should his horns go in like this
01:15Or out like that
01:16Like what color should the wizard's crocs be?
01:20Green or orange?
01:22Oh, I'm so stressed out
01:24Yeah, real tough stuff, guys
01:27But in this movie
01:27Someone had to design every set
01:29Every vehicle
01:29And every character
01:30And that person
01:31Was production designer
01:33Grant Freckleton
01:34Hello, Grant
01:35How did you come up with my unique design?
01:37His face is so generic
01:38It matches every other face in our database
01:40Emmett was the first character
01:41We ever managed to design
01:42Because in the film
01:43He's not only the hero
01:45But he's also meant to be
01:46The most normal guy out there
01:47I'm just a regular, normal, ordinary guy
01:51We did at least 150 different hair designs
01:55Before Emmett was actually happy
01:56And he said
01:57I want to be unique
01:58I want to be original
01:58And we had to like noodle
01:59With these two little nubules
02:01And we did like 15 different versions
02:03Chris and Phil loved the first version
02:04We ever did
02:05It was Emmett that kept changing things
02:07Come on
02:08You don't get this on the first try
02:10I'm pointing to my head
02:11If it's not clear
02:12My arms don't really move that way
02:14Anyhow
02:15Let's stop talking about my hair
02:16And move on to anything else
02:19Hey, how about how they created the story?
02:21When you start an animated film
02:23You hire a team of storyboard artists
02:24Who draw out the entire movie by hand
02:27And you use it to see what jokes work
02:29Is this working?
02:31Yes
02:31Yay!
02:32What parts of the story don't make sense
02:34And it's a really helpful process
02:35To just kind of get the movie
02:37To feel like the movie
02:37But not look like the finished product
02:39This represents the storyboard phase of the film
02:41It's the first thing that we do
02:42When we're testing out an idea
02:43So this is Emmett coming back from the real world
02:50Sorry, street
02:52The storyboard process has started years before animation starts
02:55And so because of that
02:57The actors aren't hired for the movie yet
02:58And so all the crew members will get together
03:01And we'll get around the microphone
03:03And we'll do temporary voices for the characters
03:05No, let Emmett try
03:06His training begins now
03:08No, let's not let Emmett try
03:09I haven't had any training
03:10That's okay
03:11We'll start with lesson one
03:12Trust your instincts
03:15I don't sound like that
03:17Anyways, eventually they cast real actors
03:20Wow, look at this group
03:21Welcome to my think tank
03:23Getting to work with Chris and Phil
03:24Is really easy
03:26They're super quick
03:27And they're right there in the room with you
03:29Kind of creating alternative lines
03:31If we're gonna spray everyone
03:33With a giant craggle machine
03:35It's gotta look cool
03:37It's so specific and quirky and weird
03:40You know, every recording session we did
03:42Just kind of flew by
03:43Like total perfection
03:45To play me they hired Chris Pratt
03:47The handsome megastar who plays Kirk in Star Trek
03:50Wait, what's that?
03:51Oh, a different Chris
03:52They hired a different Chris
03:53So, wait, who's Chris Pratt?
03:56He's a hilarious comedian
03:58Yep
03:59I've got pigs!
04:00No, I need your help!
04:01What do you mean?
04:02No, ah!
04:03He has a lot of warmth and sweetness
04:05And
04:05He's a sweet man
04:06Isn't there supposed to be a good cop in this scenario also?
04:09He can play kind of like a naive somewhat of a dum-dum pretty well
04:14Oh, okay
04:14Oh, but he's no dum-dum in real life
04:16Tell you what
04:17Mm-mm
04:18Smart guy
04:18Yeah, let's give her a shot
04:19I like it
04:20I think I get it
04:22I think I do
04:23I know Emin has this reputation of being difficult
04:25Yes
04:27That's me
04:27I actually got along with him really, really well
04:29He came in and essentially told me exactly what to say
04:32And exactly how to say it
04:33Man, he's such a cool guy
04:39Looking for creative inspiration
04:40We headed off to the place Lego was born
04:42The fictional fairytale land of Danemark
04:46Oh, how's that?
04:47Okay, uh, yeah
04:48I'm being told Danemark is a real place
04:50Denmark!
04:51Ha-ha!
04:53As part of the research and pre-production of the movie
04:55We went to Denmark
04:56Mostly to go to Legoland
04:58And eat their strange hot dogs that they have there
05:01French hot dogs
05:02Cheers
05:02I'm gonna eat all my food like this for now
05:09We're in Billen, Denmark
05:10Headquarters for Lego
05:11And it's really like going to Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory
05:19Do you have this?
05:20I didn't have it
05:21I just remembered
05:21Dan is like the greatest producer
05:23Because he has tremendous respect for the filmmakers
05:25And gives us a lot of freedom
05:26To create and create
05:27And it's just like incredibly supportive
05:31The main purpose of our show
05:33The first animatic
05:35Oh, I love it!
05:36Oh, I love it!
05:37This is a test of an audition
05:39No, audition actually with Chris and Phil
05:41I don't know what I'm doing!
05:43I don't know what I'm doing!
05:44I don't know what I'm doing!
05:45I don't know what I'm doing!
05:45No, no, no
05:46Like bigger like a fat guy
05:47I don't know what I'm doing!
05:48I don't know what I'm doing!
05:48I don't know what I'm doing!
05:49Where about backwards?
05:50You've been another one!
05:51Yeah, that's nice
05:52Yeah, that's good
05:52Then we went to the LEGO factory
05:53Then we went to the LEGO factory
05:54Where I was reunited with all my brothers
05:56With all my sisters and sisters and
05:57Oh my!
05:58Oh my!
05:59S-H-Y-R
05:59He's broke it!
06:00He's very disturbing to look at!
06:02And we toured the LEGO factory
06:03Toured the LEGO factory
06:04We toured it with Emmett
06:05He saw where he was born
06:06È stato come si era la strada di una strada di un clo qu'è un'altra si è stata
06:18dibelsa plastica.
06:18Il wereoder barato, è vera, è un mancolato, è un mancolato...
