00:00One thing movies do better than anything else, novels even, a more complex medium in some ways,
00:07is take you into the mind and heart of a particular character, a particular point of view.
00:15And this is really an unusual creation, this character.
00:20She's really, not just because of what she does and the way she does it, but also, let's face it,
00:25because of her gender.
00:25You know, this movie, if you actually unpacked it in a certain kind of way, is a classic American movie
00:32about an outsider,
00:33somebody who refuses to toe the line, who refuses to play by the system's rules,
00:39who, you know, swims against the current, goes against the grain.
00:45And all of those things, if I describe that to you, the image of a man will come up in
00:49your head.
00:51And in this case, it isn't a man, it's a woman.
00:55And the other big thing about this film is it's that very, very unusual thing,
01:02which is a central female character who's defined by all the things that a male would normally be defined by.
