00:00Future Yard, the live music venue in Birkenhead, has held a 48-hour party fundraiser.
00:06The Build Our Future campaign has already secured 95% of the £3 million needed for
00:13the project.
00:14Funds will be split evenly between construction of a 600 capacity venue and supporting Future
00:19Yard's neighbourhood ticket scheme, along with music skills and training initiatives.
00:25So, you know, the expansion of Future Yard is a game-changer, both for us as a venue and
00:33as an organisation, but also for the people of Birkenhead, of Wirral and of Liverpool City
00:38Region.
00:38Ever since it opened, it's created a space, not just for performance and for people to
00:44enjoy going to live music, which is so uplifting, but there's also space here for young people
00:49to hone their skills, both on the stage playing amazing live music, and also behind the scenes,
00:55and those are the jobs of the future, so I think it's not just about getting that live
01:00music which we really want here in Birkenhead, it's also about all the skills and talents
01:04of our young people and helping them see what their future is here in Birkenhead.
01:08Public funding support has come from Arts Council England and Wirral Council's Local Regeneration
01:13Fund.
01:14The great news is that through September, the Wirral and St Helens will be the first to
01:20have buses that are taken back into public control, so we'll be franchising the buses,
01:25and that means that we'll be deciding when buses run and how frequent they run to this
01:32expanded venue, and hopefully what we'll be able to do is ensure that people can get
01:36here, but also get back on the other side of the river so they can get home safely.
01:40The expanded venue will include 12 flexible studio spaces for workshops, rehearsals and
01:47performances, allowing more young people to access music education. Last year 1443 children
01:55attended Sunday morning Mosh Tots shows, 166 young people took part in the Soundcheck training
02:02programme, and 75 local artists received tailored support through the Propeller programme.
02:08We put on an amazing programme of live music from the most exciting new national and international
02:13artists, while also providing that safe and supportive space for new talent. The skills and
02:20training programmes that we run alongside that really are what makes us different. That's how
02:25do you take that opportunity that you create and really shape that into something that can
02:31change people's lives. So that's everything from our Mosh Tots shows that we do for the young
02:36kids from like two years up, right the way up to our Soundcheck and Propeller programmes.
02:41The new noise initiative lets 11 to 16 year olds explore instruments, write songs and perform
02:47live. The venue says the fundraiser highlights six years of community work and aims to secure
02:52the venue's future whilst continuing to support the next generation of musicians.
