Israeli strikes set multiple oil depots and a refinery ablaze in Tehran on Saturday, sending massive flames and thick plumes of smoke into the sky over the Iranian capital.
Footage shows a blaze at an oil storage site near a refinery with smoke billowing upward, though the specific facility could not be independently verified.
In a statement, the Israeli military said it had struck "several fuel storage complexes used by the Iranian regime's armed forces in Tehran." The statement added that the 'mission' represents "an additional step in deepening the damage to the Iranian regime’s military infrastructure."
Iranian media quoted a source from the Ministry of Oil as saying that "three oil depots in the Kohak, Shahran, and Karaj areas were attacked by Israeli warplanes."
Local Iranian media reported a "large fire broke out at Tehran refinery" and confirmed that "Tehran refinery and an oil storage facility were hit by two missiles."
Earlier on Saturday, US President Donald Trump said Iran would face a 'major strike today', while the Israeli military announced it had launched "a new wave of attacks on the Iranian regime’s terrorist infrastructure in Tehran."
The US and Israel reportedly carried out strikes on Iran on Saturday morning, while Tehran announced retaliatory attacks targeting Israel and US interests in the region, with reports of explosions in several Gulf countries.
Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was reportedly killed in a strike on February 28, following multiple rounds of talks between US and Iranian officials.
