Transcript
00:00The End
01:00And at 265 pounds, Drew McIntyre!
01:06The New York Police Department back pipe band are helping Drew McIntyre make his way to the ring here at
01:12WrestleMania.
01:12Hey, Thor, Noah Syndergaard from the New York Mets, they're big star aces in the crowd here tonight watching WrestleMania.
01:18But Corey, Drew McIntyre is like something out of Braveheart.
01:21Drew McIntyre, the Scottish psychopath, a true hybrid athlete.
01:26A terrifying blend of size, speed, agility, anger.
01:32Drew McIntyre is constantly a force to be reckoned with.
01:35And tonight, the big dog had better come prepared for the fight of his life.
01:40Renee, Drew McIntyre, more focused than he's ever been in his career.
01:43Yeah, Drew says it's been 18 years of work to get back here to my first WrestleMania singles match in
01:48such a long time.
01:49It's against Roman Reigns, he has never felt better.
01:52It's on.
01:54Drew McIntyre carefully orchestrated his path to WrestleMania.
02:01He went through Seth Rollins.
02:03He went through Dean Ambrose.
02:04And tonight, he wants to finish the job with Roman Reigns.
02:25And here comes the big dog from Pensacola, Florida, weighing in at 265 pounds, Roman.
02:39Roman Reigns!
02:41Everywhere you've gone over the past couple of weeks, the big topic of discussion has been this.
02:46Is Roman Reigns 100%?
02:49Roman Reigns is entering his first one-on-one match in six months.
02:53Since October.
02:55Since he relinquished the Universal Championship to go battle leukemia.
03:01Roman Reigns.
03:13It has been a long road back for that man.
03:16But is Roman Reigns ready for the Scottish Psychopath?
03:21Physically speaking, Roman Reigns looks as healthy as I've ever seen him.
03:26Mentally is where my questions lie.
03:29Roman Reigns, no stranger to WrestleMania, that's one thing.
03:33But to be in the situation he is, competing at WrestleMania in his first singles match in over six months,
03:40that changes everything.
03:42This is WrestleMania, the stage is set.
03:45This is the grandest stage.
03:46But tonight, between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre, we are gonna see a nasty fight.
03:53Two true juggernauts on the grandest stage of them all.
03:57Roman Reigns took great offense to some personal remarks about his family made by Drew McIntyre.
04:03Big Dog wants to shut the Psychopath up.
04:06And what changes this entire equation tonight for Roman Reigns is the man standing in the center of the ring.
04:11Drew McIntyre.
04:13He has been a near unstoppable force since returning to WWE.
04:18And Corey, he's come back with a major chip on his shoulder.
04:30Welcome back, Big Dog.
04:31Drew McIntyre returned and vowed to destroy the shield.
04:37McIntyre defeated Seth Rollins.
04:40McIntyre laid waste to Dean Ambrose.
04:44McIntyre even took out Roman Reigns for several weeks.
04:47Tonight, the Scottish Psychopath wants to finish the job in front of the entire WWE Universe.
04:53On the grandest stage of all, WrestleMania, bell rings were underway.
04:58Reigns, McIntyre, one-on-one.
05:01This is scary focus out of Drew McIntyre.
05:03That might be the X Factor here.
05:05I can tell you one thing.
05:07Tonight, it's not just about Roman fighting for himself or even just his family.
05:11It's about anybody who's ever been ill, who's ever struggled, who's ever suffered and had to overcome.
05:16Roman Reigns is fighting for the world tonight.
05:19Drew McIntyre.
05:20Somehow it's dropped by Reigns right out of the box.
05:22Cover.
05:23Quick cover.
05:23Hooks the inside leg.
05:25Kick out by McIntyre.
05:26I mean, think about the emotional year it's been for Reigns.
05:29He finally won the Universal Championship at SummerSlam, only to have to give it up for
05:34illness two months later.
05:36And now to get back to this point at WrestleMania.
05:38Roman has been incredibly open about his opinion that if it weren't for the support of
05:42the WWE Universe, he doesn't believe he would have made it.
05:46But here he is, six months later at WrestleMania, where the big dog belongs.
05:51With his biggest thorn in his side being Drew McIntyre.
05:54Big boot to the face of McIntyre by Reigns.
05:57Roman Reigns bounces off the road.
05:58Spy buster by McIntyre.
06:00Jackknife cover isn't enough here.
06:02Almost had Reigns at two.
06:05Incredibly athletic for a man of his size is Drew McIntyre.
06:09You would expect someone so muscular, so massive to maybe be a step slower.
06:16Not the case with McIntyre.
06:17Well, he's always had the potential.
06:21That's why he was once to have the chosen one.
06:25And now McIntyre, though, wants to reach the potential.
06:29As full as he can, as Roman Reigns catches him with a boot.
06:33And there, the leg drop.
06:36McIntyre hung up on the second rope and out to the floor.
06:38Drew's always had all the tools, but he's not had everything that Roman Reigns has had.
06:42I think that's where this jealousy lies in Drew McIntyre.
06:44It's not about jealousy, Renee.
06:46Drew McIntyre made his statement when he returned to WWE.
06:48He was going to eliminate complacency.
06:51He wanted the position that Roman Reigns was in.
06:55Seth Rollins was in.
06:57The workhorses of the company, Drew McIntyre wanted to take their spots in WWE.
07:02And that's what he has the opportunity to do.
07:03Can I correct you on something?
07:05You used the word eliminate.
07:06I believe the word was exterminate is what Drew McIntyre wants to do.
07:13Again, watch the impact.
07:15The scout kiss, the massive headbutt by McIntyre.
07:18And there's the throw to Reigns.
07:20He just tossed a big dog across the ring.
07:22See the way Roman's body contorted on impact cover.
07:25By McIntyre, hooks the leg.
07:27Roman at two, gets the shoulder up and ear fall for McIntyre.
07:32The longer this match goes, you have to believe it favors McIntyre.
07:36He's in ring shape.
07:37He's been battling.
07:37Give it up, Roman, yes or no, man, give it up, Roman.
07:40Every week, for months, you're absolutely right.
07:43Ring shape doesn't come back to you overnight.
07:45Drew McIntyre competes night in, night out.
07:48Roman Reigns, while maybe in peak physical condition,
07:51being in great shape does not mean you're in great ring shape.
07:54How about it, Roman?
07:55Before you've suffered injuries in your career,
07:57before you come back to in-ring action,
07:59how difficult is it to get back into that quote, in-ring shape?
08:02It's incredibly difficult depending on the duration of the time you're out.
08:05Roman's been out six months.
08:07To be in ring shape, it's the running,
08:09it's the going down and getting back up over and over again.
08:13It's like it's training for its own sort of sport.
08:15It's not just something that can be remedied on a treadmill.
08:18It's the entire sports entertainment process.
08:20And it takes time to get your body to optimal performance.
08:24Graves, you said it yourself earlier that Roman Reigns looks like he's in
08:27incredible shape, maybe the best you've seen him be in.
08:29Agreed, physically speaking, you can achieve that in the gym.
08:33What I'm talking about is when we get into the deep water,
08:35if McIntyre pushes Roman to the 10, 15, 20 minute mark,
08:39is Roman gonna have that gas in the tank?
08:41Is he gonna be able to be the big dog we know and love?
08:44We know that Drew McIntyre wanted to be able to separate Roman Reigns from the shield.
08:48He knew that's how he could take them all apart.
08:51McIntyre lands on the apron.
08:53Roman Reigns ducks underneath and catches him with a clothesline.
08:56No ring rust there from the big dog.
08:57Well, to this point, Roman's look very, very effective.
09:01But I'm sure Drew McIntyre would love to take this match deep,
09:04to make it go a little bit longer.
09:06Only other problem for Roman, Corey, he's in there with a machine.
09:09McIntyre is a machine.
09:12Absolutely right.
09:13I think Goose is thinking of something big right now.
09:15Roman with a drive by, nobody home.
09:17Landed spine first on the apron, and now McIntyre begins the assault.
09:21And that's just a testament to why Drew McIntyre is so dangerous.
09:24He obviously studied Roman Reigns, he has been prepared for anything.
09:28Roman has thrown his way thus far.
09:30Can't deny the work that Drew McIntyre puts in.
09:34Talk about work, this is just pure physicality.
09:38And really the question is, is Drew McIntyre with a suplex to the floor.
09:42The question is this, how much punishment can Roman Reigns take?
09:47Not how much can he dish out tonight, but how much punishment can he absorb?
09:51I know Roman very well, he's a very proud man.
09:54But again, you gotta look at the level, this focus of Drew McIntyre, this nastiness.
09:58The levels that he will go to, to walk away with a win tonight.
10:01And I think that's what we're gonna have to use to determine the condition,
10:04the true condition of Roman Reigns tonight.
10:06We know there has never been any quit in the Big Dog, that's not what Roman does.
10:11And there's an example.
10:13If Drew McIntyre can beat him into submission tonight,
10:16can force the Big Dog to say he's had enough,
10:20we'll realize this isn't quite the Roman Reigns we know.
10:23Look at this, Reigns prone top rope.
10:26McIntyre's got him in position for this Alabama-like slam that he loves to deliver.
10:30This is terrifying power from the Scottish Psycho-class.
10:34He's face first, center of the ring, McIntyre for a huge win at WrestleMania.
10:38And a kick out by Reigns.
10:41That's about as close to a three count as you're gonna get without the bell ringing.
10:46Back to the drawing board, McIntyre.
10:48I disagree, Renee.
10:50I think Drew just needs to keep his foot on the gas pedal at this point.
10:55Everything Reigns has tried, McIntyre's had a counter and an answer for him.
11:00Look one more time, driving Reigns face first in the center of the ring.
11:06And I believe, honestly, if McIntyre had had his weight a little higher on Roman's body,
11:11that could have been a three count.
11:13McIntyre continues to inflict punishment on Reigns.
11:19Drew McIntyre has essentially rendered Roman Reigns ineffective to this point.
11:26Roman has not been able to muster much offense at all.
11:29Roman has been McIntyre's whipping boy since the opening bell.
11:32McIntyre top rope.
11:34You should have said no.
11:40And Roman with a right hand.
11:42Very proud Roman Reigns, headbutt, McIntyre hung up now.
11:49But can Roman Reigns capitalize?
11:51Roman has suffered a great deal of punishment to this point.
11:55The top rope usually not working.
11:56Whoa, whoa, whoa.
11:57Tremendous core strength, and what a throw.
12:01Unreal.
12:03That was absolutely incredible.
12:06That was an opening that Roman needed to capitalize on,
12:09but he didn't get the job done.
12:10This goes to show you every time you think you've solved the Scottish Psychopath.
12:15He one ups you.
12:16Roman Reigns with the first opening in several minutes in this matchup,
12:20and McIntyre slammed the door on him.
12:22I gave you the opportunity to get out of this.
12:27I broke the shield.
12:29I broke your brothers.
12:32You're nothing to me.
12:34Nothing.
12:37McIntyre proudly declaring that he broke the shield.
12:42And Reigns is nothing to the Scottish Psychopath.
12:46This one is for Ambrose.
12:48And Reigns on the right, and another one, but McIntyre.
12:53You never did that.
12:55My God.
13:02That was complete disrespect.
13:05A slap across the face of Reigns.
13:08Might have been what Reigns needed.
13:09And a clothesline.
13:11And Roman Reigns starting to fire back now.
13:14Went across the ring, Big Boot drives McIntyre out.
13:20Now Roman Reigns hopes to build some sort of momentum here.
13:24You saw the expression on his face change.
13:26Roman Reigns with a drive-by, this time connecting.
13:29McIntyre still on his feet.
13:32It's like the slap from McIntyre unintentionally flipped a switch in the big dog's mind.
13:37And now it's McIntyre who's retreating.
13:39McIntyre is trying to stay away.
13:41Now trying to drag Roman out, kicked into the barricade.
13:47Reigns outside the ring.
13:49One, two, three.
13:55And the official, at a count of three,
13:59Reigns sends McIntyre back inside the squared circle.
14:04McIntyre sends Reigns across the ring.
14:06There's Roman Reigns, down goes McIntyre.
14:08And now you feel the momentum shifting a bit.
14:11Roman's in control.
14:12You can see Drew McIntyre grasping at his ribcage in his midsection.
14:16You gotta wonder if the Samoan drop on the outside didn't do some damage.
14:19Maybe McIntyre's got a cracked rib.
14:21WWE fans on their feet in the background.
14:24Roman Reigns locked and loaded.
14:26He's got McIntyre in his sights.
14:28And have a cracked jaw to match.
14:31Went for the Superman punch.
14:33McIntyre able to duck underneath and caught him with a headbutt.
14:36Reigns, though, caught him with a Superman punch.
14:58It's been a while since we've heard the big dog roar.
15:02Spear by Reigns.
15:05Reigns with the win.
15:10Here's your winner, Roman Reigns.
15:17Again, as I mentioned earlier, tonight was about more than just Roman Reigns.
15:22It was about more than Roman's family.
15:24It was for anyone who has suffered, who has battled illness.
15:29How about the kids back in Houston that Roman spent time with in the hospital.
15:34Everyone around the world with a struggle and
15:37a fight who supported the big dog he fought for tonight.
15:41A big smile on the face of Roman Reigns.
15:45So glad to be back, feeding off the 80,000-plus here tonight at MetLife Stadium.
15:51And now Roman Reigns can take it all in.
15:54And here, Corey, is where this match turned.
15:56McIntyre got a little too confident, a little too arrogant, and woke up the monster inside Roman Reigns.
16:04The big dog came swinging full force, bang, Superman punch, dropped the psychopath.
16:12And this old familiar sight on the grandest stage of them all, a hellacious spear from the big dog.
16:40A very thankful Roman Reigns.
16:44And tonight at WrestleMania, the big dog is back.
16:49And he may be better than ever.
