00:00Each day we wake up to some new assault on our democratic institutions.
00:55Each day we wake up to some new assault.
01:06Another setback to the idea of the rule of law, an offense to common decency every day you
01:17wake up to things you just didn't think were possible.
01:26Each day we're told by those in high office to fear each other and to turn on each other,
01:32and that some Americans count more than others, and that some don't even count at all.
01:41Everywhere we see greed and bigotry being celebrated and bullying and mockery masquerading as strength.
01:50We see science and expertise denigrated while ignorance and dishonesty and cruelty and corruption are reaping untold rewards.
02:02Because every single day we see that, and it's hard to hope in those moments.
02:14So it may be tempting to get discouraged, to give in to cynicism.
02:21It may be tempting for some to compromise with power and grab what you can.
02:31or even for good people to maybe just put your head down and wait for the storm to pass.
02:40But this man, Reverend Jesse Lewis Jackson, inspires us to take a harder path.
02:49His voice calls on each of us to be heralds of change, to be messengers of hope.
02:55To step forward and say, send me.
03:07that has always been.
03:08Love you.
03:10And you.
03:10The world.
03:10It's a long time.
03:11When I was a congressman for me.
03:12The world is a way of mercy.
03:13Merci.
