01:06And Lord knows, we need that light.

01:22We need that inspiration.

01:25Because let's face it, our country and our politics are in a pretty dark place right now.

01:32It's hard to know where to start, because every day this White House offers up a French batch of lawlessness

01:48and recklessness and mean-spiritedness and just plain craziness.

02:02We've got a president who thinks it's okay to use the Justice Department to go after his political opponents.

02:08Hey, wait, wait, don't boo.

02:12Vote.

02:13They don't hear boos.

02:18They hear votes.

02:22So we've got a president who replaces career prosecutors with loyalists who will do what he wants,

02:31and now he's telling them what he wants is for them to hand over millions of taxpayer dollars

02:37that he had to pay in expenses for previously violating the law.

02:45We've got a commander-in-chief who fires decorated officers because he thinks they might be more loyal to the Constitution than they are to him.

02:54He's deploying the National Guard in American cities, claiming to stop crime waves that don't actually exist.

03:10We've got masked ICE agents pulling up in unmarked vans and grabbing people,

03:14including U.S. citizens off the streets on the suspicion

03:20that they don't look like real Americans.

03:24We've got an HHS secretary who opposes proven science

03:28and promotes quack medicine.

03:32A top White House aide who calls Democrats, the whole party, domestic extremists.

03:43We've got some poor labor economists who got fired for accurately reporting bad jobs numbers

03:49that the president didn't like.

03:50I mean, it's like every day is Halloween.

04:01Except it's all tricks and no treats.

04:10And here's the thing.

04:12It's not as if we didn't see some of this coming.

04:16I will admit it's worse than even I expected, but I did warn y'all.

04:26I did.

04:28You can run the tape.

04:33And by the way, he warned you, too, because he said what he was going to do.

04:39But the fact is, there were plenty of people who voted for Trump and the Republicans anyway.

04:46And it wasn't because they wanted to give up the right to free speech

04:50or see our public health systems torn down,

04:55but because they were understandably frustrated with inflation and gas prices

05:01and the difficulty of affording a home and worries about their children's future.

05:06And so they were willing to take a chance.

05:09Now, nine months later, you've got to ask yourself,

05:15has any of that gotten better?

05:18No!

05:18Is the economy working better for you?

05:25No!

05:25Because it sure has gotten better for Trump and his family.

05:31Since he's been in office, the whole crypto business and other ventures

05:37have made hundreds of millions of dollars,

05:41including from foreign nationals and rich folks investing

05:46because they want to stay in the President's good graces.

05:49The economy has been really good for some of Trump's billionaire pals

05:55and for finance bros and well-connected corporations

05:59who've seen their tax bills go down

06:01and don't have to worry about all these pesky regulators anymore.

06:05But for ordinary families, costs haven't gone down.

06:13They've gone up, partly thanks to this shambolic tariff policy.

06:20Young people trying to get a start in life

06:22are having a tougher time than ever finding a job.

06:26Entry-level hiring is down 16% from last year.

06:30Hundreds of thousands of federal employees,

06:35including a lot of people here in Virginia,

06:38have lost their jobs to pay for those billionaire tax cuts.

06:44We're talking about people who have dedicated their lives to public service,

06:48who make the country work.

06:52Health care premiums for millions of people are about to double

06:55or even triple next year.

06:58Meanwhile, the government is shut down

07:05and the Republicans who currently are in charge of Congress,

07:09they're not even pretending to solve the problem.

07:12They have not even been showing up to work.

07:16Not in session.

07:18Where are you?

07:19What are you doing?

07:20What are you doing?

07:22And as for the President,

07:25he has been focused on critical issues like

07:29paving over the Rose Garden so folks don't get mud on their shoes

07:33and gold-plating the Oval Office

07:37and building a $300 million ballroom.

07:41So, Virginia, here's the good news.

07:44If you can't visit a doctor, don't worry.

07:47He will save you a dance.

07:48And if you don't get an invitation to the next White House shindig,

07:56you can always watch the festivities

07:58and all the beautiful people on True Social.

08:03The point is, there is absolutely no evidence

08:11Republican policies have made life better for you,

08:16the people of Virginia.

08:18I mean, they've devoted enormous energy

08:21to trying to entrench themselves in power

08:23and punishing their enemies

08:26and enriching their friends

08:27and silencing their critics.

08:29They've put on a big show of deporting people

08:31and targeting transgender folks.

08:34They never miss a chance to scapegoat minorities

08:37and DEI for every problem under the sun.

08:40What they have not devoted energy to is helping you.

09:02They have not put forward serious proposals

09:06to lower housing costs

09:07or make groceries more affordable.

09:09They haven't improved our schools.

09:11They haven't made health care more accessible.

09:14They haven't shortened your commute

09:15or prepared young people for the future

09:18where AI might take their job.

09:21And all the nonsense we see on the news every day,

09:25the over-the-top rhetoric,

09:26the fabricated conspiracies,

09:28the weird videos of a U.S. president

09:34with a crown on his head

09:36flying a fighter jet

09:38and dumping poop

09:40on protesting citizens.

09:45All of that is designed to distract you

09:49from the fact that your situation

09:51has not gotten better.

09:53They do it so you won't notice

09:59that while they're helping

10:02the wealthiest, most powerful people in the country

10:05consolidate more wealth and more power,

10:08your bills are still going up.

10:11And you're waiting longer at airports

10:13because there aren't enough air traffic controllers.

10:16And the program helping your kid

10:19with special needs was just gutted.

10:20So that is what's happening.

10:29And the good news is

10:31there's something you can do about it.

12:57that good intentions aren't enough.
