The countdown has been on for the national powerchair hockey team to compete on the world stage in May. But the modified sport, which has been using motorised wheelchairs, has not been well-known on home turf. The Australian sliders were in their final months of training and said they were ready to make their mark.

00:03Gearing up for glory, the Australian sliders are fine-tuning their game, with the World
00:10Championship in Finland fast approaching.
00:12I enjoy everything about it, you know, the competitiveness, being able to get out there
00:19and being physically active.
00:21But for the national powerchair hockey team, getting there won't be easy.
00:26Things cost so much money, specialised equipment, flights, the accommodation over there, it's
00:33such a long way for us to travel and I think it's a lot on everyone's bodies but especially
00:39for them.
00:40The sliders have been quietly competing for more than 20 years, aiming for victory but never
00:45quite breaking through.
00:47Now, with elite coaches and an international champion on their side, the underdogs say they
00:52are finally ready to make their mark.
00:54And it's nice if the community knows it's not that easy for disabled people not to be
01:01doing sad about it but they really put a lot of effort and energy into the sport and that's
01:07why we also hope that we will get a medal because then they get something back for it.
01:12The team is hoping to place in the top three but will push to bring home gold in May.
01:18It's the beginning of a new tractor.
01:20They're going there to say to the world that Australia can be the real deal.
01:25Ready to make their country proud.
01:27Do you have a new tractor?
01:27Beaucoup.
01:34Do you have a new tractor?
01:34It's a new tractor.
01:35Wow.
