00:00An extension was signed, I think, to the tune of $40 million
00:02for the additional year on the back end of it.
00:05So he is now, in effect, on another two-year deal.
00:08That's been kind of the rolling thing that they've done
00:10since Daniel has been here, making sure he's on a two-year deal
00:12with the one-year extension tacked on damn near every year.
00:16What did you make of seeing this extension?
00:19Where did your mind go to immediately?
00:21I immediately went to, it's happening, baby.
00:23It is happening.
00:26This move for Daniil Hunter, which, by the way,
00:28just real quick on Daniil Hunter.
00:30That dude has just quietly, methodically gone about his business,
00:36doesn't do a lot, doesn't say a lot, to the tune of $218 million he's made now.
00:42He's just a pro, nose down, gets it done, respected in the league,
00:46not a lot of hoopla.
00:48It just makes you feel good.
00:50But where my mind immediately went is this move signing Daniil Hunter
00:55is 100% about the offense.
00:57And not just the offense.
00:59Not just the offense.
01:01No, it is.
01:02It really is.
01:03He knows I love it.
01:05This is a move about the offense because we were – I've been saying for a long time
01:10I would love to see Daniil Hunter, you know, extend it as well or restructured
01:15just because that's the kind of thing you need to do to open a lot of cap space.
01:19Not just marginal, you know, working in the margins kind of cap space.
01:23This is one that could have gone either way, really.
01:26We were talking about maybe Derek Stingley, maybe Nico Collins.
01:29Those are still maybes.
01:30They still might restructure those.
01:32Maybe Jalen Petrie, by the way.
01:33Jalen Petrie restructured as well.
01:36So, what they're doing is they're clearing all the money.
01:40Why would they clear all the money?
01:42Why would they make it a priority to get Daniil Hunter done and clear – what is it right now?
01:46$22 million?
01:47I think I saw a 28 from Texans cap.
01:49Oh, that's with Petrie.
01:51Petrie as well.
01:51With Daniil Hunter is 22, now it's 28.
01:54They've got $28 million before they restructure Derek Stingley, which I think is going to happen.
01:58Maybe Nico Collins.
02:00So, we're talking –
02:01Well, that's so that they can sign MJ Stewart, one-year contract per Aaron Wilson.
02:05MJ Stewart back to play safety, baby.
02:07No, it's not.
02:08What?
02:09So, why are you going to clear $35, maybe more million?
02:13Because you're going to go get two badass offensive linemen.
02:16This move is about the offense, 100%.
02:20Shout-out to Nick Casario.
02:21I've given him a hard time here and there, and I think fairly.
02:24We've got to be fair here.
02:25He is not going to be playing around in the sandbox anymore.
02:28He's going big.
02:29He's going big, and this, to me, almost guarantees that they're going to get at least two big-time offensive
02:34linemen.
02:35Yeah, because they could get themselves to the place –
02:37Well, I mean, I would sure hope that that's the way that they go,
02:40because otherwise, where would they be spending that free agency money, right?
02:43There's obviously some dudes that you need to retain.
02:47There's some guys –
02:48Can I get Will Anderson?
02:48Maybe on the defensive line, you want to see if you can retain –
02:51Well, the extension on Will Anderson is in the future, right?
02:54For next year.
02:55He's still under contract, so those extensions, those numbers don't show up until the extension.
02:59You're starting to be in the future, right?
03:01Or next season.
03:02Not this upcoming season, this season.
03:03Right.
03:03And the league year starts Tuesday?
03:05I believe so.
03:06Or Wednesday, I believe.
03:07Wednesday 11th.
03:08The 11th is Wednesday.
03:099th is Monday.
03:10Okay, Wednesday.
03:11But, you know, you have some guys on the defensive line that you'd probably like to resign.
03:15But not for those big dollars like that.
03:17Yeah.
03:17And that was the point that I ultimately wanted to get to.
03:19It feels like the big money, which feels like is the big space that's being cleared up here,
03:24is probably going to be utilized on the offense.
03:26One would hope, especially when you consider that this team has –
03:30the split of where the money has been spent has been pretty heavy to one side of the football.
03:35No, absolutely they have been, but not anymore.
03:39So, we can start talking about those big names.
03:41I've kind of, you know, wavered on Tyler Linderbaum because he's going to be so expensive
03:46and the market is going to be very demanding.
03:50Put Tyler Linderbaum on the table, man.
03:52Put, you know, put – what's his name from the Indianapolis?
03:55Brayden, what's his name?
03:56Brayden Smith.
03:57Brayden Smith.
03:57It's literally the easiest name.
03:59What's his name?
04:00Kaminsky?
04:01What was the name?
04:02Yeah.
04:02Oh, Kazminsky.
04:04The other one?
04:04Oh, is that the CEO?
04:05That's the McDonald's CEO.
04:06Oh, yeah.
04:07I think he's going to have more on that.
04:09Or the left-hand pitcher.
04:10Oh, yeah, that.
04:11No, I think you can put them all on the table.
04:14They're going to go for the big ticket items.
04:16And here's the other thing that that does.
04:17You're not – and this is so Nick Casario – you're not pigeonholing yourself into the
04:24entire league knowing that you're going to have to draft offensive linemen,
04:27offensive linemen, maybe another offensive lineman.
04:29It opens up possibilities in the draft.
04:31It does.
04:32If you sign those two guys, if you're moving – if you're thinking two, three moves down
04:36the road, they get two big offensive linemen, help the offensive line, you're probably
04:41still going to draft an offensive lineman in the first round, but you're not pigeonholed
04:44into like, okay, those guys are going to be heavy into it.
04:47And he might be open to trading back like he did last year.
04:50Might be.
04:50If the person he wants ain't there, he'll be down with trading back and getting more picks.
04:55Yeah.
04:55Yeah, I think you pair this with some of the things that we saw yesterday from Nick
04:59Casario joining Payne and Pendergast, especially when he was talking about their free agent
05:04big board and how they have a real small pool of like 25 to 30 players.
05:08It would make sense that if you're operating with that small of a pool, where you're that
05:13honed in on the guys that you feel like fit the system and fit the roles that you need,
05:17it would make sense that you equip yourself with a bag-o-money to go and really go and get
05:23that done, right?
05:24It's walking into a job and having the right tool for the job, right?
05:28It's not going to say, I'm going to clean the gutters and all I got is a hammer, right?
05:32I'm going to go in with the right tools for the job.
05:35And I think that that does give me a little more confidence that they are going to attack
05:40this offensive line in a way that they need to.
05:41And shout out to Seth.
05:43He was making this mention.
05:44I was like, yeah, I probably should have thought back to when D'Amico was last week at
05:48the Scouting Combine talking to some of the media folks, talking about how they're going
05:51to try and upgrade on the offensive line and upgrade a running back.
05:54Right.
05:54He said that pretty explicitly.
05:56And if you're going to do that, it feels like the way that you have to do that.
06:00I don't think there's another way to do that unless you really go in our aggressive and
06:04free agency or again, unless they want to do the thing that they did like in the running
06:08back and go find someone who's willing to trade you in interior offensive linemen.
06:11Right.
06:11I don't know how often you're going to find those.
06:13You probably have already passed the time where teams are more willing to do that before
06:17the new league year.
06:17So it feels like now all systems are go, including going and getting guys in free agency.
06:24Yeah, no, absolutely.
06:25And, you know, you talk about upgrading the offensive line, even if they draft at number
06:2928, you know, a highly regarded tackle or guard or whatever, you can't with certainty
06:35say they've upgraded.
06:36You can say they think you think they did because that's a highly regarded player.
06:39But the only way to really upgrade is to get those free agents.
06:42And now they have the means to do it.
06:43And by the way, a texter pointed out that's that's without Joe Mixon, you know, and he
06:48was on Joe Mixon.
06:49But I think you said that I think you said that there's Stingley Stingley got done yesterday.
06:52Remember was yesterday day before.
06:54Yeah, but that is without the potential 8 million that we think is coming with a Joe
06:59Mixon parting of ways.
07:01Now, the only thing about that is, again, you could piece out some of the some of that
07:05that cap space with some of the players that you the free agent players that you're bringing
07:08back.
07:09Like, I don't know what the numbers are on MJ Stewart.
07:10It's probably going to be small.
07:12The possibility of maybe like a Sheldon Rankins or Tim Settle or even both.
07:15If one of those happen, those those little even if it's here's four million or what have
07:20you, those take out of that.
07:21It still feels like go get you at least one big one on the offensive line.
07:25And I think we still hope for two with the possibility of the extension or the the restructuring
07:29the things that you continue to do to create.
07:31I think it's I think it's going to be two.
07:33Yeah.
07:34So hopefully hopefully that shows us where we're seeing the Texans get ready for because
07:39unless or what is it legal tampering starts on Monday.
07:42And let's be honest, that's when free agency starts as soon as report as soon as we can
07:47get the oh, they have agreed to a deal or they are thinking about agreeing to a deal.
07:51Teams are going to be agreeing to deals.
07:53So I think that it's going to be it's imperative that today, this weekend, the Texans and all
07:59these other NFL teams are preparing themselves, stealing themselves for the opportunity of working
08:04in free agents.
