00:24As global attention turns to the sinking of the Iranian naval frigate Iris Dana,
00:29in international waters of Sri Lanka, India has firmly clarified that it bears no responsibility for the attack.
00:37Sources from India's defense and security establishment emphasize that the vessel had already departed Indian shores
00:43long before the United States launched strikes against Iranian targets in a rapidly escalating West Asian conflict.
00:50Iris Dana had been at the Visakapatnam naval base in February,
00:54participating as a guest in the Milan multilateral naval exercise hosted by the Indian Navy.
00:59The exercise concluded on February 24th.
01:02Sources confirm the ship departed on the very next day for Iran.
01:06From that point on, any responsibility toward the vessel ended.
01:10After leaving India, the frigate moved into international waters
01:13and Sri Lanka's exclusive economic zone with Hambantota as its last confirmed port of call.
01:19Until March 4th, the date was torpedoed by a US submarine,
01:23Iris Dana was observed loitering in international waters.
01:25This raises questions about Iran's own strategic planning.
01:29Sources asked, staying in the vicinity for 8 days, wasn't this part of Iran's action-reaction plan against the US
01:35Navy?
01:36The Indian Navy, however, quickly responded to distress calls from Iris Dana,
01:40received by the MRCC Colombo in the early hours of March 4th,
01:45while the ship was operating 20 nautical miles west of Gale.
01:48Under Sri Lankan responsibility, according to Indian Navy PRO Captain Vivek Madhwal,
01:54a long-range maritime patrol aircraft was deployed at 1,000 hours to assist Sri Lanka in search operations.
02:00Another aircraft carrying air-droppable life rafts was kept on standby.
02:04The training ship INS Tarangini, operating nearby, reached the search area by 4 p.m. on March 4th.
02:10Meanwhile, INS Ikshak sailed from Kochi to augment the efforts,
02:14remaining in the area to search for missing personnel as a humanitarian measure.
02:19In recent US operations, over 17 vessels have been targeted.
02:23Yet the sinking of Iris Dana has drawn disproportionate attention,
02:27partly due to its participation in the Indian-hosted Milan exercise.
02:31Historically, even during the World Wars, naval vessels were targeted by adversaries,
02:36regardless of location or timing.
02:38For the US, Iran is a belligerent nation and vice versa.
02:41India maintains a policy of non-involvement in the West Asia conflict.
02:45India reiterates, the incident involving Iris Dana should not be conflated with the Milan exercise,
02:50a multilateral engagement that brings together dozens of friendly navies.
02:54Any responsibility ended the moment the ship left Indian waters.
