00:00:02I wanna let my head down
00:00:05While I'm staring down your face
00:00:07Wanna go till the lights out
00:00:09Take it right back to my place
00:00:10You watch your mind
00:00:12If you don't know what this is
00:00:14I don't one by one
00:00:16Don't one by one
00:00:17Twist my wrist
00:00:18Guys like this, step on the side
00:00:20Eyes on me, watch my back
00:00:22Just like this, here for the night
00:00:24Just keep watching
00:00:28Just keep watching
00:00:45It is good to be back
00:00:46Beautiful blue skies above Melbourne
00:00:49Today as we return for the first round
00:00:51Of this 2026 Formula 1 season
00:00:53Here in Australia
00:00:55The fans have packed the place out
00:00:57It is a sellout this weekend
00:00:59There was plenty for them to see earlier
00:01:01And the Ferrari fans were particularly happy
00:01:04It was a 1-2 for Ferrari
00:01:06In that first practice session
00:01:07Charles Leclerc topping the times
00:01:08Today as he did at the end of testing
00:01:11Lots to be hopeful for for Ferrari
00:01:13But I'm joined right now
00:01:15By Jenson Button
00:01:16In the paddock here
00:01:17In the glorious sunshine, Jenson
00:01:18And more than Ferrari topping
00:01:20Which is great for Ferrari fans
00:01:21That was really close
00:01:23The times are close
00:01:24It was, yeah
00:01:25Both Ferrari drivers up there as well
00:01:26Which is nice to see
00:01:28Red Bull
00:01:29And Mercedes
00:01:30I feel that McLaren's a little bit
00:01:32On the back foot
00:01:33But that might be because
00:01:34They had limited running
00:01:35They had a few issues
00:01:36At the beginning of the run
00:01:37But Oscar put it up there
00:01:38But yeah
00:01:40It's really exciting
00:01:40And they're a lot closer
00:01:41I think than we ever thought
00:01:42They would be
00:01:43In FP1
00:01:44This second session
00:01:45What do you think
00:01:46They're going to be doing
00:01:46What's the plan
00:01:47I mean they've obviously
00:01:48Got to try and get
00:01:48Some long runs in
00:01:49And understand that
00:01:50A little bit more
00:01:50With these 2026 cars
00:01:51Yeah because of the deployment
00:01:53Of the power unit
00:01:54And the combustion engine
00:01:57But also from the hybrid system
00:01:59They would have gained
00:02:00So much information from FP1
00:02:02It's the first time
00:02:02I've driven on the circuit
00:02:03You know they do
00:02:04All the simulations beforehand
00:02:05But there's nothing like real life
00:02:08So I think we're going to see
00:02:09A big change in terms of performance
00:02:10From FP1 to FP2
00:02:12The lap times are going to get
00:02:13A lot faster
00:02:14More than what we would normally see
00:02:16So it'll be interesting to see
00:02:17I have to say
00:02:18I love watching these cars
00:02:19Out on track
00:02:20They look a lot
00:02:20They look so good
00:02:21They do
00:02:21They're more nimble
00:02:23They're able to do more with them
00:02:24They're able to hang the back out
00:02:26Whereas last year
00:02:27They couldn't do that
00:02:28And we're making the drivers
00:02:29Work harder
00:02:29Which is never a bad thing
00:02:30We're also making Bernie
00:02:31And Ant work harder too
00:02:33Because we've sent them over
00:02:34To the Skypad
00:02:34To take a closer look
00:02:35At that first session of 2026
00:02:38Yeah well first of all Bernie
00:02:40We're going to
00:02:40Genson mentioned it
00:02:41Let's talk about reliability
00:02:42Why is it so tough
00:02:44For these drivers
00:02:45I'll play it on
00:02:46You talk over
00:02:46What the implications are
00:02:48For reliability now
00:02:49Yeah I know
00:02:50We've seen here
00:02:50The reason both
00:02:51Stopping at the end
00:02:52Of the Villean
00:02:53Trying to get it going
00:02:54There again
00:02:54It sounds
00:02:55From a mechanical point of view
00:02:56It sounds very harsh
00:02:57Doesn't it
00:02:58See the McLaren coming in as well
00:03:00So the significant amount of time
00:03:01In that session
00:03:02In the garage
00:03:04Any down time
00:03:05At this track
00:03:06Is not learning
00:03:07For the entire car
00:03:09The PUs
00:03:10And because we've had
00:03:11Such a big regulation change
00:03:12Everything in these cars
00:03:14Is different
00:03:14They need to be learning
00:03:15About the tyres
00:03:16Around this track
00:03:16We had a hydraulic failure
00:03:18On the Williams as well
00:03:19So lots of different failures
00:03:21And different niggles
00:03:22Showing up
00:03:22Just listen
00:03:23To the Aston Martin
00:03:28I mean it doesn't sound like
00:03:30They're revving the engine
00:03:30Much at all
00:03:31And Alonso
00:03:32Didn't even get into the car
00:03:34So there's reliability problems
00:03:35And there's a whole
00:03:35Different world of pain
00:03:37For Aston Martin
00:03:38Yeah exactly
00:03:39And they've spent
00:03:39You know
00:03:40Three days here now
00:03:41Trying to build these cars together
00:03:42And then to not even get out
00:03:44In FP1
00:03:44Is a new level of reliability
00:03:46That we didn't think
00:03:47We would get to
00:03:48They're obviously trying their best
00:03:50To get these cars lapsed
00:03:51But very very limited
00:03:52In P1
00:03:52So this is an interesting one
00:03:53These cars are really hard to drive
00:03:55And we're seeing that
00:03:56But also drivers prepping a lap
00:03:58So this is riding on board
00:03:59With Hadjar
00:04:00This is an interesting one
00:04:01Creeping around the final corner
00:04:02Preparing his lap
00:04:03Not wanting to use his battery too early
00:04:05Gets overtaken by the Alpine
00:04:07Now you hear the revs pick up
00:04:08And he gets into the slipstream as well
00:04:10He's now arriving into the corner
00:04:11Faster than he's ever been before
00:04:13Because of all that deployment
00:04:14So that
00:04:14And you're off
00:04:15Straight away
00:04:16And that's very different
00:04:17To what we've seen in the past
00:04:18In the past
00:04:19When drivers are prepping
00:04:20Or starting a lap
00:04:21They go as fast as they can
00:04:22From the exit of the final corner
00:04:24And we wouldn't have had that situation
00:04:26He would have been well ahead
00:04:27Of the other car
00:04:28So that is different this year
00:04:29It wasn't alone
00:04:30I mean Verstappen
00:04:31Over the bumps into turn three
00:04:32That's another one to look out for
00:04:34And a huge lock up
00:04:35For him as well
00:04:36So one thing that doesn't change though
00:04:38Bernie
00:04:38With this circuit
00:04:39Is turn ten
00:04:40No matter rule change or not
00:04:42Turn ten exit
00:04:44Like it proved with Hamilton
00:04:45Is going to bite you
00:04:46If you take too much of it
00:04:47And it doesn't look excessive
00:04:48From the on-board
00:04:49But the off-board
00:04:50Looks like it could potentially damage
00:04:51The underfloor of the car
00:04:52Yeah and you can see there
00:04:53He's nowhere near track limits
00:04:55So the car's run in the middle
00:04:57Of the blue line there
00:04:57But the damage to the bottom
00:04:59Of the floor
00:05:00And especially this early
00:05:02In the season
00:05:02All of these teams
00:05:04Have struggled to get parts here
00:05:05So you can't afford to damage
00:05:06Too many in an FP1 session
00:05:08Looking forward to what's to come
00:05:10In FP2
00:05:11Back to you
00:05:11Thanks very much
00:05:12Anthony Bernie
00:05:13Yes looking forward to it
00:05:14We have to mention there though
00:05:15They talked about the Aston Martin
00:05:17Yesterday they had a press conference
00:05:18Where we were learning a bit more
00:05:19About their problems
00:05:20But a short while ago
00:05:21Adrian Uri has revealed
00:05:23Even more about the extent
00:05:25Of what they're dealing with right now
00:05:27We came here with four batteries
00:05:29We've had conditioning problems
00:05:32Or communication problems
00:05:34With two of those batteries
00:05:35Which means we've
00:05:36As we sit here today
00:05:38Only got two operational batteries
00:05:42That given our kind of rate
00:05:46Of battery damage
00:05:46Is quite a scary place to be in
00:05:50Obviously we're hopeful
00:05:51That we can get through the weekend
00:05:53And start two cars
00:05:55And so on and so forth
00:05:56But it's very difficult
00:05:58To be concrete at the moment
00:06:00About that
00:06:01Adrian is there the possibility
00:06:03Of flying more batteries in
00:06:06Unfortunately not
00:06:06There aren't any
00:06:10Jensen
00:06:11I don't know how you get to this point
00:06:13But also if you say
00:06:14There's no way of flying anymore
00:06:15In for this weekend
00:06:16That surely impacts China as well
00:06:17We're only a week away from China
00:06:19It's a back-to-back
00:06:19A lot can get done in a week
00:06:21In Formula One
00:06:22As we know
00:06:22But yeah
00:06:23It's not an easy position
00:06:25For Aston Martin
00:06:27You know
00:06:27Coming into this season
00:06:28I think there was always
00:06:29For every team
00:06:30There's a lot of excitement
00:06:31Regulation changes
00:06:32Trying to do the best they can
00:06:33With those changes
00:06:35And Adrian Newey
00:06:36Wow
00:06:36You know
00:06:36He's designing the car
00:06:38It's a massive deal
00:06:38And it works team
00:06:40Works Honda team
00:06:41But it hasn't gone
00:06:43You know
00:06:44It hasn't gone the way
00:06:44That they expected it to initially
00:06:47And I think
00:06:49When you arrive here
00:06:50And you only get three laps
00:06:51In first practice
00:06:52Again
00:06:52You're not learning anything
00:06:53You know
00:06:54You can't get any more reliability
00:06:55Work done
00:06:56If you're doing three laps
00:06:57So it's a tough situation
00:06:59For them to be in
00:07:00But I think everyone's
00:07:01Got to be a little bit patient
00:07:02With these new regulations
00:07:04And they're working
00:07:05Very very hard to improve
00:07:06So I look
00:07:07Hopefully
00:07:08Look forward to them
00:07:09Being out on track
00:07:10In FP2
00:07:11Yes
00:07:11And turning this around
00:07:12I mean
00:07:12There was so much excitement
00:07:14When Adrian Newey signed
00:07:15They were going to have
00:07:16This Honda engine
00:07:16Everyone was looking forward to it
00:07:17How do you as a driver
00:07:18Maintain your motivation
00:07:19When
00:07:20You know
00:07:20Fernando's sitting there
00:07:21On his phone
00:07:21During the session
00:07:22And
00:07:23There's so much
00:07:24As you say
00:07:25Work going on
00:07:25But how do you keep motivated
00:07:26When that's what you're up against
00:07:27At the moment
00:07:28It's not so bad as a driver
00:07:30It's the first race of the year
00:07:31If you get halfway through the season
00:07:32And you find yourself
00:07:33In a tricky situation
00:07:34And it's not improving
00:07:36Yeah
00:07:36That's tough mentally
00:07:37But at the start of a season
00:07:39When
00:07:39So much
00:07:41Is new
00:07:41Within this team
00:07:42You know
00:07:43They've spoken about Honda
00:07:44And Adrian Newey said
00:07:45That it's only 30% of the staff
00:07:46That actually built
00:07:47The previous engine
00:07:48So there's a lot of new
00:07:49In this team
00:07:51And it does take time
00:07:52To sort of
00:07:53Gel together
00:07:54And work together
00:07:55And
00:07:55To be strong
00:07:57And when you're fighting
00:07:58Against the likes of
00:07:58Mercedes
00:07:59And Red Bull
00:08:00And McLaren
00:08:01You've got to be on your game
00:08:02And you've got to be ready for it
00:08:03And
00:08:04It
00:08:05It takes time
00:08:06To get to that
00:08:07What progress do you want to see
00:08:09If you're the driver
00:08:09Going into say next week
00:08:11Do you want just more laps
00:08:11On the board
00:08:12What
00:08:12What will you take
00:08:13As a sign
00:08:14That you're going in the right direction
00:08:15And that you can
00:08:15Stick with it
00:08:16Essentially
00:08:18Time
00:08:18You know
00:08:19Driving
00:08:19And as you said
00:08:21Every lap they do
00:08:22Every kilometre they do
00:08:23Is not just learning
00:08:24For the driver
00:08:25But for everyone
00:08:25Within the team
00:08:26Whether it's
00:08:27The aerodynamics
00:08:28The mechanical side
00:08:29Of the car
00:08:30The power unit
00:08:31Honda
00:08:32Every single kilometre matters
00:08:34And they've not done enough
00:08:35Of them
00:08:35Well let's look ahead then
00:08:36To this second practice session
00:08:37Because we will see
00:08:39Everybody else
00:08:39Back out on track
00:08:40We hopefully see them
00:08:41Back out on track as well
00:08:42But this battle
00:08:43We thought Mercedes
00:08:44Were going to walk away with it
00:08:45A little bit less pace
00:08:45Than Ferrari
00:08:46In that
00:08:46But everyone's still learning
00:08:47These engines
00:08:48And these cars
00:08:49And this energy management
00:08:51It's great
00:08:51Because when you're
00:08:52Watching them on track
00:08:52It looks very Formula 1
00:08:55Do you know what I mean
00:08:56You don't see the differences
00:08:57With the power output
00:08:58Through the lap
00:08:59So I'm loving watching
00:09:01These cars
00:09:01And the competitiveness
00:09:02Of the field out there
00:09:03Brilliant stuff
00:09:04Well as we see
00:09:05The drivers getting ready
00:09:06To get back out there
00:09:07For this second practice session
00:09:09You'll be able to see
00:09:10Exactly how they get on
00:09:11On the way next
00:09:23Plenty still to come
00:09:25From here in Melbourne
00:09:26Second practice is on the way
00:09:27For you next
00:09:28We will round up
00:09:29The first day of the 2026 season
00:09:31In the F1 show
00:09:32From 6.15 in the morning
00:09:33Your Saturday looks like this
00:09:35With final practice
00:09:36Getting underway at 10 past 1
00:09:37Qualifying from 10 past 4
00:09:39For the Australian Grand Prix
00:09:40And on Sunday
00:09:42Your race day looks like this
00:09:43We will be on air from 2.30
00:09:45It's lights out
00:09:46For the first race of the season
00:09:47At 4 in commentary now
00:09:49To take you through this session
00:09:50It's David Croft
00:09:51And Anthony Davidson

00:10:47Well, hello everybody. Happy first day Friday. The Australian Grand Prix is here. The season in 2026 kicks off in
00:10:56Melbourne. Albert Park for what is the 30th anniversary of the first ever World Championship Grand Prix around this track
00:11:03and the 40th World Championship Australian Grand Prix in total.
00:11:07And here is a lap of Albert Park. 3.28 miles long. Barely any elevation. 14 corners. 5 to the
00:11:15left and 9 to the right. Straight line modes where the active aero at the front and the rear dumps
00:11:22the drag.
00:11:22Overtake mode. Detection point round to turn 14. Your overtake. Replacing DRS and giving you extra energy to deploy over
00:11:31the course of a lap if you're within one second of the car in front.
00:11:34Soft, medium, hard are the tyres. C5, C4, C3. The compounds haven't changed. The tyres have their narrower, smaller contact
00:11:41patch with the tarmac that we had in 2025.
00:11:44It's all new for 2026 and Ferrari have hit the ground running. If it is the year of the horse,
00:11:50is it going to be the year of the prancing horse in Formula One?
00:11:53Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton were the two fastest times separated by just about half a second with Max Verstappen,
00:11:59Isaac Hadjar and Arvid Lindblad nipping at their heels.
00:12:03That was the top five. The defending champion, Lando Norris, didn't have the best of first practice sessions. A suspected
00:12:10gearbox issue had him pulled into the garage after just seven laps.
00:12:13Oscar Piastri had some issues as well. But to be honest, Anthony Davidson, every single team had a less than
00:12:20straightforward practice session because this is the first time these new cars have run at this track.
00:12:26Yeah, I mean, doing the talks in the paddock, nobody's happy yet with their deployment of energy and all the
00:12:33subtleties that you work on in between, you know, the FP1 session and FP2.
00:12:39All of those intricacies of the power units that we don't really see from the outside. We just see lovely
00:12:45fast racing cars pounding around these streets over here in Albert Park.
00:12:48But there's a lot of work going on in the background to get the power distributed in the correct way
00:12:55that they had pre-planned, but it's never quite what it is in real life.
00:13:00So you need to run the car on the real track before you kind of flush everything out and perfect
00:13:07it more.
00:13:08So, for instance, one driver I know of went barrelling into turn one, came out of turn two, and the
00:13:15team were like, right, go on your push lap, and they're saying, no, the deployment isn't quite right.
00:13:20So, OK, cool your tyres, go round, and we'll try again.
00:13:23And when that starts repeating itself a few times, then that starts to eat into your run plan and the
00:13:29time that you have available, because there's only 60 minutes in each session today.
00:13:33Well, and that's why, I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, Crofty, but that's why next weekend will be
00:13:38so difficult.
00:13:40I mean, you think this is a difficult one for the team, a sprint weekend where you only have one
00:13:44session before it gets real.
00:13:46In China.
00:13:47Yeah.
00:13:47Good luck.
00:13:48That's for next week. This is this week. Arvid Lindblad's car. What a fine practice session he had for racing
00:13:55cars as well.
00:13:56Gabriel Bortoletto, both Audis in the top ten. They were pretty pleased with their work.
00:14:01Martin only did three laps with Lance Stroll. Fernando Alonso sat out the session, and Alex Albon stopped on the
00:14:07track with a suspected hydraulics issue.
00:14:10We have Ted Kravitz, 40 seconds to the green light. Down to you, my friend.
00:14:15Thank you very much. Yes, and leading the way so far have been Ferrari.
00:14:19The only thing that's gone wrong for them was that they've had to completely remake their pit box.
00:14:23And this is, I think the drivers, oh no, these arrows have just been laid down, and now they're taking
00:14:30them up again.
00:14:30Oh dear, oh dear.
00:14:32I think the drivers requested it, because I saw them earlier in the weekend, and this yellow pit box had
00:14:36actually been sorted and measured and laid out.
00:14:40And you see where they actually spray painted how far the driver was going to be in the box.
00:14:46That had all been done.
00:14:47And I think Lewis and Charles actually requested a change, so they had to rip it up and then start
00:14:52again.
00:14:52But they haven't even managed to fix it for this session.
00:14:55That's fine.
00:14:56They'll do it overnight.
00:14:57Add to the long list of what the mechanics down here and all the teams have had to do.
00:15:02Otherwise, we'll get into Aston Martin and the, well, the revelations that Adrian Newey gave over the lunch break in
00:15:10the session.
00:15:10I've got to tell you that Checo Perez's car is on stands with what looks like the battery, not in
00:15:15the car.
00:15:16And that's quite a big change.
00:15:17So I'll go and follow that up in Cadillac.
00:15:19Otherwise, they're ready and raring to go at the end of the pit.
00:15:21And that was Lando Norris, slowly making his way out of the pit lane.
00:15:27And good to see him on the track right at the start of this session.
00:15:30Those little appendages on the side of all the cars, as George Russell tries to wait for a nice gap.
00:15:38They look like prime bits of real estate that are there to be taken out in close combat racing.
00:15:45They look like cars that have been built dangerously close to the cliff edge, don't they?
00:15:50It's quite a precarious position.
00:15:53But I just imagine in this open-wheel formula that we have that they are, I wonder who's going to
00:15:58be the first one to have it disappear in turn one or wherever in the heat of battle.
00:16:03And then how do the cars drive when they do?
00:16:05Crofty, this is becoming, quickly becoming an all-too-familiar sign, isn't it?
00:16:09A stricken Aston Martin not out on track in the pit box.
00:16:13What's going on here with Russell?
00:16:14Russell.
00:16:15So George stopped, and I thought he was trying to force his way in.
00:16:19Has he clipped something?
00:16:20Has he tried to get out of the garage?
00:16:22Because they're replacing the front wing and the nose.
00:16:24As you can see, it's a really tight exit of the garage.
00:16:28And of course, with damaging your front wing now, Crofty, what else do we have?
00:16:33With active aero.
00:16:34And if that gets damaged, you might as well park the car.
00:16:37Because you're going nowhere, your ride height is going to be messed up completely because they need to rely on
00:16:43the front wing activating so they don't crush the front of the bib into the ground.
00:16:48So let's have a look.
00:16:49You said he nudged in somewhere.
00:16:51Did he clip?
00:16:52There he is.
00:16:53Oh, he did, yeah.
00:16:54He clips Harvard Limblad in the racing bulls.
00:16:59And as he was trying to go forward, that's why they would have replaced the wing.
00:17:03Was he over the line?
00:17:04Oh, that's a tight one.
00:17:05Yeah.
00:17:06This guy has just hit my front wing.
00:17:08Hang on a minute.
00:17:10Was there a gap there?
00:17:12You've got to get part.
00:17:13Well, it's all about his wheel going over the white line when there's a gap.
00:17:17Oh, it looked like he was going to stop it.
00:17:19You have priority in the past lane, same as quality.
00:17:22So I think Harvard was like, you know, after you, my friend.
00:17:25And then his engineer is like, no, you've got priority here.
00:17:28Well, he ummed and ah, didn't he?
00:17:30And I think George capitalized on a rookie being a little bit hesitant.
00:17:37That's exactly what happened, Chris.
00:17:38Yeah, I think you're right.
00:17:39With his hesitant nature of, of course, he wants to do the right thing, Limba,
00:17:43but his engineer was quick to say, no, no, no, you've got priority.
00:17:46But by that point, George has gone, oh, you're waiting for me, are you?
00:17:49Which is why, in hindsight, I think George next time is like, right,
00:17:54I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt in a practice session.
00:17:56Qualifying, no, I'm going for it.
00:17:58It's like, what do you do when you come behind a learner driver on the road?
00:18:02Back off?
00:18:02If it, yes, you have to, you have to be a little bit more allowing of the fact
00:18:09that they might not be quite as...
00:18:11Oh, what the hell?
00:18:11It's what I call a Pinto doing, what they're doing.
00:18:14Limblad locking up going into the turn,
00:18:17but DeFranco just lose power on the racing line there.
00:18:23And was that him slowing, or was that the battery deployment or something?
00:18:28We just came to it too late to see exactly what happened.
00:18:32We didn't see the precursors.
00:18:34Quala Pinto had just done an outlap,
00:18:38so was going for, I imagine, a push lap.
00:18:41I can say Flavio Griswold looks a bit in shock,
00:18:44but he often looks like that at the best of times.
00:18:46He does a bit.
00:18:46Now he's holding up Lewis Hamilton and Oscar Piastri as well.
00:18:51Yeah, he's really up to speed again now,
00:18:53but that was bizarre, wasn't it?
00:18:55How the car didn't accelerate.
00:18:57A bit like Piastri on the exit of the pit lane,
00:19:01first on out in FP1, just no drive at all,
00:19:03and that seemed to be a throttle sensor issue.
00:19:06Let's have another look, shall we?
00:19:08Have a listen as well.
00:19:15It went into neutral, yeah.
00:19:17So get off the racing line.
00:19:26And this is how it looked for Lewis Hamilton.
00:19:31Oh, my goodness.
00:19:35Oh, that's the car going crazy slow on the pit straight.
00:19:38Am I right in thinking that Franco could have done himself
00:19:43and everyone else a favour by moving over to the right?
00:19:45And that's why we have the flashing rain lights to warm drivers
00:19:49of the car going slowly under a kind of super clip.
00:19:52Oh, this is Max stopping.
00:19:54Oh, that happened to the racing balls of Arvid Lindblad in FP1.
00:19:59It dropped down, the revs dropped down, dropped down,
00:20:02and then the car's stored.
00:20:03Same power unit, of course.
00:20:05Exactly, yeah.
00:20:06So he's still not going yet.
00:20:09You can restart these cars, but he's going to get pushed back
00:20:12or stuck in gear, look.
00:20:13It is stuck in gear.
00:20:17Yeah, that's the international sign of that car's not going anywhere.
00:20:22So what do they do now?
00:20:24Do they close the pit lane if there's a car kind of stuck there
00:20:28so the marshals can try and recover it,
00:20:30stop anyone coming out of the garage
00:20:31or anyone coming through the pits?
00:20:33I wonder, going back to that Polo Pinto situation
00:20:36when you're going that slowly, dangerously certainly
00:20:39as Hamilton said, you have to look at the race at night.
00:20:41Even if you're crawling, just a quick look in the mirror,
00:20:44there would have been an opportunity at some point
00:20:46just to swing it to the right-hand side.
00:20:47Well, he looked in his mirrors.
00:20:49Yeah, early on, yeah.
00:20:50And then didn't move.
00:20:51Ted, down to you.
00:20:53We're about to find out because there's a Cadillac
00:20:55coming down the pit lane and soon to encounter Max Verstappen.
00:20:59The car is at a slightly oblique angle.
00:21:01There isn't space to get round it to the left,
00:21:03but there is space to undertake it.
00:21:05So I think he could undertake it, the Cadillac.
00:21:08I'm probably sure you'll see it quite soon.
00:21:10But I think he could undertake it.
00:21:12There's space, there are marshals around,
00:21:14just as there were marshals with Arvid Lindblad.
00:21:17But then it's going to actually be moved now.
00:21:19Yeah, OK, the Red Bull's been moved now.
00:21:21So they've sorted that out.
00:21:22That moved and pushed back towards the garage?
00:21:24Yes.
00:21:25In the same way Lindblad does.
00:21:27Yeah, because we can't see it.
00:21:28That's all I asked.
00:21:29OK, Seth.
00:21:29I mean, that's all it takes, isn't it, Crofty?
00:21:32All it takes is that to happen on the start grid,
00:21:36putting into your grid box there on the main straight on race day,
00:21:40and they're going nowhere.
00:21:41So, I mean, that's two different teams,
00:21:43but obviously the same power unit,
00:21:45exactly the same problem.
00:21:46Look, they're having to,
00:21:47they've got the car on the, on the, on the, on the dollies.
00:21:52Yes.
00:21:53New season, new rules, new regulations,
00:21:56new problems to be solved.
00:21:59And there's Lauren Mechis, the team boss.
00:22:00That's Pierre Vache next to him,
00:22:02the technical director, down at Red Bull.
00:22:04So, look, if you're riding on board with Max Verstappen at the moment,
00:22:07and you're kind of getting the feeling of being pushed backwards,
00:22:10I would advise you, if you wanted,
00:22:12to go and ride on board with somebody else out there,
00:22:14because there are plenty of drivers you can choose from,
00:22:16and there's a QR code to help you get to your Sky Sports app,
00:22:19and then you use your Sky Sports login,
00:22:21and you will have access to all 20 on boards,
00:22:24and the team radio as well,
00:22:25and in time-order tradition,
00:22:28if you're a Sky Glass, Sky Q customer,
00:22:30or now,
00:22:32then you can use the interactive button on your remote control.
00:22:36Let's ride on board with Lewis Hamilton.
00:22:38So, one driver that doesn't have any problems out there at the moment,
00:22:41Lewis Hamilton,
00:22:41after obviously avoiding that slow-moving Alpine down the pit straight,
00:22:45through turn 9 and 10 he goes,
00:22:47and that's the curb that gave him a very rough ride in FP1.
00:22:51He's got a whole load of cars in front of him, though.
00:22:53He sets another purple sector,
00:22:55fastest of all through the second sector.
00:22:57His teammate gets out of the way,
00:22:58along with Oscar Piastri on the exit of 11,
00:23:03and now he's swinging to the right-hand side
00:23:05before opening up turn 13.
00:23:07The car just,
00:23:08I love the hell they move around.
00:23:09It's great to see,
00:23:10and again through the final corner,
00:23:12oh, and there you go,
00:23:13at the top of your screen,
00:23:14so there the stewards have noted,
00:23:16or race control at least,
00:23:17have noted exactly what we were commented on before.
00:23:20Now here comes George Russell,
00:23:23fastest through first and second sectors,
00:23:25track looks clear in front.
00:23:26And the stewards are going to look at that
00:23:29Arvid Lindblad-George Russell incident
00:23:31after the session.
00:23:32So the stewards are going to investigate that,
00:23:34and I would imagine investigate Franco Colopinto too,
00:23:37but we'll let you know.
00:23:38This looks neat from George Russell.
00:23:42Just as you said that,
00:23:44the fight begins in the final corner.
00:23:47What's it going to be?
00:23:48Well, that cost a bit here.
00:23:50Sorry, George.
00:23:51But interestingly,
00:23:52I mean,
00:23:52it was a tiny correction,
00:23:54but it didn't look that,
00:23:56it didn't look like anything really went wrong,
00:23:58and he's slower in that final sector than...
00:24:00And is that just rear grip,
00:24:01just giving up on him a little bit there?
00:24:03Yeah, it's a tough last corner.
00:24:04You can really lose a lot of time there,
00:24:06and you've got to be kind of half-throttled,
00:24:09building it up.
00:24:10It's a confidence thing through that one.
00:24:13Right.
00:24:16Let's just hand a set of headphones.
00:24:17to our special guest in the commentary box.
00:24:20You might have assumed
00:24:21that it would be Anthony and myself
00:24:23for this session,
00:24:24but no,
00:24:25from the Haas team,
00:24:28Jack Doerth.
00:24:28Fair dinkum,
00:24:29how are you, mate?
00:24:30It's been a while, Croft.
00:24:31It has been a while.
00:24:33I'm surprised I'm allowed to speak to you.
00:24:34No, you're always allowed to speak to me.
00:24:36Put the mic just up a little bit.
00:24:38Up a little bit?
00:24:38Yeah, a bit.
00:24:39Sorry, it's been a while,
00:24:40as you can see.
00:24:40Yeah, that's not a problem at all.
00:24:42I'm not used to it.
00:24:42Got a new kit now.
00:24:44New kit, new colours.
00:24:45Part of the Haas team,
00:24:45reserve driver.
00:24:47How are you settling in?
00:24:48I'm settling in great.
00:24:49It's been nice.
00:24:51You know,
00:24:52it's been all last minute as well.
00:24:54It took a while
00:24:55to get things sorted
00:24:57and then also start
00:24:58the new adventure.
00:25:00And, no,
00:25:00the team have been
00:25:01super welcoming.
00:25:02Had a great time so far.
00:25:04Obviously,
00:25:05you know,
00:25:05in a different position
00:25:06than I was here last year,
00:25:07but I'm super grateful
00:25:08for the opportunity
00:25:09to say the least
00:25:10and, you know,
00:25:11it's a good pipeline
00:25:12to the start of.
00:25:13Obviously,
00:25:13on the grid here last year
00:25:15and now a reserve driver
00:25:16for the Haas team,
00:25:18like you say.
00:25:19And how,
00:25:20what's the game plan, mate?
00:25:22I think, you know,
00:25:24the situation wasn't the easiest
00:25:27to, let's say,
00:25:28you know,
00:25:28start moving forward from again.
00:25:31So,
00:25:32it was choosing
00:25:33the best opportunity
00:25:34for not just being
00:25:36a reserve driver
00:25:36with no real,
00:25:37you know,
00:25:38pathway,
00:25:38obviously,
00:25:38back into a seat.
00:25:40You know,
00:25:40there's good opportunities
00:25:41to come
00:25:42in the next 12 months.
00:25:44So,
00:25:45placing me
00:25:46inside Haas
00:25:47where,
00:25:47you know,
00:25:48there's a possibility
00:25:49of a pipeline
00:25:49and a road map
00:25:50back into a F1 seat
00:25:51was most important.
00:25:53What have you made
00:25:54so far
00:25:55of these new cars,
00:25:56these new beasts
00:25:57this year?
00:25:58Quite strange.
00:25:59And I'm sure
00:25:59you would know
00:26:00from simply
00:26:01three times
00:26:03as much power,
00:26:04you know,
00:26:04battery,
00:26:05but the same size
00:26:05and all of a sudden
00:26:07exploiting deployment
00:26:08in one straight
00:26:09rather than consistently
00:26:10over one lap.
00:26:11So,
00:26:11it's quite a change.
00:26:13Lando was talking
00:26:14yesterday about it
00:26:15not being intuitive
00:26:16and having to relearn
00:26:18everything he's learned
00:26:19so far
00:26:20in single-seater racing
00:26:21to drive differently.
00:26:23Have you had a chance
00:26:24on the sim yet?
00:26:25And would you confirm
00:26:26or deny
00:26:27that he's got a point there?
00:26:28No,
00:26:28completely.
00:26:29I think even
00:26:29in any other category
00:26:31regardless of
00:26:32single-seater driving,
00:26:33you start a qualifying lap
00:26:34and you come out of,
00:26:36let's say,
00:26:36second-last corner here
00:26:37that we just saw
00:26:37the hairpin
00:26:38and you'd be on it,
00:26:39right?
00:26:39Foot to the floor,
00:26:40you're on the limit
00:26:41to the last corner,
00:26:42you're starting a lap,
00:26:42you know,
00:26:43at maximum speed,
00:26:44you know,
00:26:44the best exit
00:26:45you possibly could be.
00:26:46And now,
00:26:47it's completely the opposite.
00:26:49You're limping around
00:26:50at maybe 45% throttle,
00:26:52sticking to the target
00:26:53that the engineers
00:26:54have mentioned
00:26:55and then going full throttle
00:26:56maybe only 200 metres
00:26:58before the start-finish line
00:26:59to hope that you haven't
00:27:01used too much deployment
00:27:02of that battery
00:27:02before turn one.
00:27:04It's,
00:27:04yeah,
00:27:05it's a bit counterintuitive
00:27:07to what you've learnt before.
00:27:09A little.
00:27:09Just a little.
00:27:11I'm sure it won't take long
00:27:12before all the drivers
00:27:13are up to speed.
00:27:14Look,
00:27:14here's Oli Behrman
00:27:14out on the track.
00:27:15You can spill the beans on it
00:27:16now because your teammates,
00:27:18you know each other
00:27:19really well.
00:27:19What's the gossip?
00:27:21I mean,
00:27:21the gossip,
00:27:22you know,
00:27:22he's just a great bloke,
00:27:24honestly,
00:27:25inside out,
00:27:26amazing.
00:27:27Always really
00:27:29been a fan of Oli.
00:27:30He's a great guy,
00:27:32you know,
00:27:32super kind
00:27:33as well to all the team members
00:27:35which is,
00:27:35you know,
00:27:35highly respected
00:27:37and super important
00:27:38especially when
00:27:39you know,
00:27:40we're all in a stressed,
00:27:41high risk,
00:27:42high rewards environment
00:27:43so it's not easy
00:27:44not only for us as drivers
00:27:46but also for the whole crew.
00:27:48They're in a similar position
00:27:49just without,
00:27:50let's say,
00:27:50the spotlight
00:27:51but they still get hammered
00:27:52on the stage.
00:27:52They still get hammered
00:27:53you know,
00:27:54when things aren't perfect
00:27:55so that kindness
00:27:57and respect,
00:27:58they really,
00:27:58really appreciate it
00:27:59and I can see it
00:28:00very much
00:28:00from the inside from Oli
00:28:01which I can see
00:28:02goes a long way.
00:28:03We've got
00:28:04running with Oli
00:28:05with a local boy here
00:28:06Oscar Piastri.
00:28:07Talk us through
00:28:08this circuit these days
00:28:10from your experience
00:28:11how does it rubber in?
00:28:13You know,
00:28:13it's a street circuit
00:28:16it's changed a lot
00:28:17since I drove here
00:28:18so what are these drivers
00:28:19going through
00:28:20and what are you doing
00:28:21with the car set up
00:28:22as the track progresses
00:28:24as well as
00:28:24your own driving?
00:28:26Yeah,
00:28:26no,
00:28:27it's going to sound biased
00:28:28but it's honestly
00:28:29a really cool circuit.
00:28:30Yeah,
00:28:30Joy Young
00:28:31Turn 6
00:28:32is one of my favourite circuits
00:28:33on the calendar.
00:28:34fast right
00:28:35before you turn in
00:28:36it's completely blind
00:28:37it drops away as well
00:28:38so it's just
00:28:39so much trust
00:28:40that you have to have
00:28:41to throw the car in first
00:28:43hoping that
00:28:43you're almost aiming
00:28:45for the grass
00:28:46and the inside
00:28:46you're sending enough speed
00:28:47in that
00:28:48you're going to wash away
00:28:49from it
00:28:49so that you end up
00:28:50nicely on that curve
00:28:51by the time you can see it.
00:28:52This man here
00:28:53had a huge moment there
00:28:54didn't he?
00:28:54Was it in qualifying
00:28:55last year?
00:28:56Yeah,
00:28:57and ended up
00:28:59in the wall
00:29:00on the outside of it.
00:29:01Great to see him
00:29:02finally out there.
00:29:03He had a moment
00:29:04with George Russell
00:29:04the year before
00:29:05in a race I think
00:29:06as well.
00:29:06Is that the one you're talking?
00:29:08No,
00:29:09there's two different moments
00:29:10isn't there?
00:29:10so they were qualifying
00:29:11last year
00:29:11but it was the year
00:29:12before that in the race
00:29:13where he
00:29:16didn't come out
00:29:17of that one too well.
00:29:18Did you know
00:29:18that one of the marshals
00:29:19that tended to George
00:29:20as Fernando does come out
00:29:22onto the track
00:29:23when he had his accident
00:29:25that Fernando
00:29:26you know
00:29:27was a part of
00:29:28was the same marshal
00:29:29that went and attended
00:29:30to his car the year before
00:29:31when his engine
00:29:32or last year
00:29:33when his engine broke down
00:29:34same marshal
00:29:35on both occasions.
00:29:37Loyal marshal.
00:29:38He's got to keep that marshal
00:29:39at home or something
00:29:40for this weekend.
00:29:42He actually needs to know
00:29:43where that marshal is.
00:29:44Where are you standing?
00:29:45Go and stand in the paddock
00:29:46somewhere
00:29:46then he might trip over
00:29:48I don't know
00:29:49to be fair
00:29:49but yeah
00:29:50get him a VIP pass
00:29:52or something
00:29:52for the weekend
00:29:53instead.
00:29:54It's the same marshal
00:29:54I think her name was Elsie
00:29:56but I'm not quite sure
00:29:57off the top of my head.
00:29:57What was that I've been up to?
00:29:59So this is turn five
00:30:01Oh, that's usually
00:30:02flat out that corner.
00:30:04It's not been yet.
00:30:07And that's what's
00:30:08scary about this track
00:30:09that you know
00:30:10you have a moment like that
00:30:12and you've got a wall
00:30:13right there
00:30:13on the left hand side
00:30:14just
00:30:15and you're going quick
00:30:16through turn five
00:30:17and so you're saying
00:30:18that they're not
00:30:19flat out there yet?
00:30:20Not yet
00:30:20and maybe down
00:30:22at 5-10 kg fuel
00:30:23we're going to be
00:30:24flat at 6 kg fuel.
00:30:25Hang on
00:30:25Fernando's looking
00:30:26side to side here.
00:30:31Is he just getting
00:30:32out of the way?
00:30:32I hope so
00:30:35but that doesn't
00:30:35sound good does it?
00:30:37Oh dear.
00:30:44So he had a problem
00:30:45with the power unit
00:30:46when it fired up
00:30:47this morning
00:30:48that was different
00:30:49to the problems
00:30:50that they've been
00:30:51experiencing before then.
00:30:52That just sounds
00:30:53horrible doesn't it?
00:30:56I can't hear
00:30:57so I'm
00:30:58You can't hear it?
00:30:59Oh, here you go.
00:31:00Sorry.
00:31:01You had the
00:31:01No, I didn't have the
00:31:02button.
00:31:02No, you didn't
00:31:03Sorry Jack.
00:31:04I'm like
00:31:05they're in silence.
00:31:06I'm like
00:31:06looking at you
00:31:07thinking that
00:31:07maybe you're
00:31:08just making
00:31:08something up
00:31:09I'm like
00:31:09yeah this
00:31:10sounds not so great.
00:31:12Didn't really
00:31:13know where to go
00:31:13for a second.
00:31:14We never make up
00:31:15a thing, right?
00:31:17Everything you hear.
00:31:17I didn't know
00:31:18maybe that sound
00:31:19wasn't working
00:31:20and as an
00:31:21incredible
00:31:21you know
00:31:24spokesperson
00:31:25that you are
00:31:26just going with
00:31:27the flow
00:31:27being proactive.
00:31:29He's not a
00:31:29psychic.
00:31:31I'll tell you
00:31:32who is psychic
00:31:32Ted Kravitz.
00:31:34Let's head down
00:31:34to him now.
00:31:35No, unfortunately
00:31:36not wish I was
00:31:37be very useful
00:31:38for this job
00:31:38but I just say
00:31:39what I can see
00:31:39as well
00:31:40and we're expecting
00:31:41to see Max Verstappen
00:31:42quite quickly out
00:31:43after conking out
00:31:44the end of the pit lane
00:31:45but based on
00:31:46what happened
00:31:47with Arvid Lindblad
00:31:47early on
00:31:48with the same
00:31:48power unit
00:31:49remember
00:31:49remember Crofty
00:31:50it took 10 or 15 minutes
00:31:51for that power unit
00:31:53either to cool down
00:31:54or for something to happen
00:31:55and it looked like
00:31:56nobody was touching
00:31:57the car until
00:31:57about 30 seconds ago
00:31:58and now
00:31:59the nose cone
00:32:00has come off
00:32:00and they're playing
00:32:01with something
00:32:02at the front
00:32:02of the bulkhead
00:32:03of the car
00:32:04I can't see
00:32:04whether it's
00:32:05the oil
00:32:06or the brake
00:32:08reservoir
00:32:09or whether
00:32:10they're actually
00:32:10going to start
00:32:11doing a suspension
00:32:13change
00:32:13while he's in the garage
00:32:14and it looks like
00:32:15actually
00:32:16they've got
00:32:16the accumulator
00:32:18can you see
00:32:18the box
00:32:19at the front here
00:32:20so it looks like
00:32:21there is a further
00:32:23problem
00:32:23whether that's
00:32:24brake fluid
00:32:25hydraulic fluid
00:32:26or whatever
00:32:26it's going into
00:32:27that servo system
00:32:28at the front
00:32:29of the bulkhead
00:32:30where all the
00:32:30little reservoirs are
00:32:32so there's obviously
00:32:33something
00:32:33it's a loss of pressure
00:32:34maybe in the system
00:32:35they need to
00:32:35re-pressurise the system
00:32:36but as we'll learn
00:32:37more about these cars
00:32:38and these power units
00:32:39how complicated they are
00:32:40if you have a little
00:32:41conch out at the end
00:32:42of the pit lane
00:32:43like Lindblad did
00:32:44early on
00:32:45and like Verstappen
00:32:45has just now
00:32:46maybe that has
00:32:47consequences
00:32:48further down
00:32:49in these
00:32:50in these systems
00:32:51so yeah
00:32:51another further problem
00:32:53that's keeping Verstappen
00:32:54in the garage
00:32:55that happened in testing
00:32:56where I think
00:32:57Isaac Hadjar had an issue
00:32:58that led to another issue
00:33:00and another one
00:33:00he spent most of the day
00:33:02in the garage
00:33:03no issues on track
00:33:04for George Russell
00:33:05look at him
00:33:05throw that Mercedes
00:33:06into turn 10
00:33:08picks up a little
00:33:09slipstream
00:33:10behind Isaac Hadjar
00:33:11and on his way
00:33:12down towards turn 11
00:33:14next braking zone
00:33:14as soon as you lift off
00:33:16the active aero shuts
00:33:17gives you the downforce
00:33:18that you need
00:33:19to take the corner
00:33:20yeah
00:33:20no more of those
00:33:21active aero zones
00:33:22through the remainder
00:33:24of the lap
00:33:24so through turn 12
00:33:25he goes
00:33:25into 13
00:33:26get to the middle
00:33:28of the track
00:33:28try and open up
00:33:29the final corner
00:33:30and then we saw him
00:33:30lose a bit of time
00:33:31here last time around
00:33:32a very influential
00:33:34corner for lap time
00:33:36that one
00:33:36looks like he gets it
00:33:37more than right
00:33:38that time around
00:33:39so he heads
00:33:40Piastri
00:33:41and his teammate
00:33:42here
00:33:42Kimi Antonelli
00:33:43that we run on board
00:33:44with now
00:33:44and he's on the soft tyre
00:33:45George Russell
00:33:46track's rubbering in
00:33:47we're already going
00:33:48faster than we were
00:33:49earlier today
00:33:50120.2 for Charles Leclerc
00:33:52it's a 120.0
00:33:53for George Russell
00:33:55Kimi Antonelli
00:33:56meanwhile
00:33:56through the first sector
00:33:58we go
00:33:58and a 28.0
00:33:59matches
00:33:59what George Russell
00:34:00did on his previous lap
00:34:01yeah there's that
00:34:02cracking corner
00:34:03that we were talking
00:34:04about before turn 6
00:34:05just that brief lift off
00:34:07of the throttle
00:34:07and then you have to
00:34:09get back on it early
00:34:10because all this is
00:34:11flat out
00:34:11flat out
00:34:12all the way up towards
00:34:13turn 9
00:34:14listen to that
00:34:14you've got the superclip
00:34:15kicking in
00:34:16so that really affects
00:34:17your speed
00:34:18into this next
00:34:19left right sequence
00:34:20so his foot's still
00:34:22flat to the floor
00:34:23but the car takes over
00:34:26and you start to lose
00:34:27think of it like
00:34:27an electric handbrake
00:34:28just coming on
00:34:29as you're flat out
00:34:31and that is just
00:34:32sending energy
00:34:34into the battery
00:34:34while you're flat out
00:34:35it's like an old fashioned
00:34:37dynamo on your bicycle
00:34:38imagine you're cruising along
00:34:40at a good cruising speed
00:34:41and then suddenly
00:34:42someone whacks the dynamo
00:34:43on and you're still
00:34:44peddling
00:34:45but you start going
00:34:46slower and slower
00:34:47with that resistance
00:34:48there in place
00:34:49so that's what's going
00:34:49on there
00:34:50Kimi crosses the line
00:34:51just under two tenths
00:34:53away from his team
00:34:54mate
00:34:54yeah Russell Antonelli
00:34:55Piastri
00:34:56now the top three
00:34:57we're on board
00:34:58with Lewis Hamilton
00:34:59and Ferrari power
00:35:00like it is at Haas
00:35:01give us the gossip
00:35:03now Jack
00:35:04from inside the Haas team
00:35:06testing
00:35:07seemed to go
00:35:08really well
00:35:09Io Comatsu
00:35:09was very happy
00:35:10with the way things are
00:35:11where the Haas feel
00:35:13they might be
00:35:13in the pecking order
00:35:14and how are things
00:35:15behind the seats
00:35:16no comment
00:35:17oh don't come up here
00:35:19and give me no comment
00:35:20I'm kidding
00:35:20I'm kidding
00:35:20I'm kidding
00:35:21no
00:35:22to be honest
00:35:24I would honestly be lying
00:35:27to give you an exact result
00:35:30and an exact position
00:35:31of where I think we are
00:35:32I think
00:35:33it's a similar position
00:35:35to where Haas were
00:35:36last year
00:35:37I think
00:35:37with the package
00:35:39in the right window
00:35:40can be
00:35:41fighting for points
00:35:42inside the top
00:35:43after the top ten
00:35:43but also
00:35:44with it slightly
00:35:45in the other direction
00:35:46can be very easily
00:35:48the other side of that
00:35:50with
00:35:50I think just coming back
00:35:52into that very tight
00:35:53mid-pack
00:35:53that we're going
00:35:54to see again
00:35:56but then again
00:35:57you have
00:35:57the Mercedes
00:35:58one and two
00:35:59on a soft compound tyre
00:36:00only three to five times
00:36:02quicker than
00:36:02the Ferrari
00:36:03on the hards
00:36:04and that's not
00:36:05what we saw
00:36:05from then
00:36:05in testing
00:36:06is it
00:36:06so
00:36:06we could be
00:36:08back to
00:36:09the old days
00:36:09of the Mercedes
00:36:10looking out
00:36:11for themselves
00:36:11a little bit
00:36:12in practice
00:36:12before we head
00:36:13into qualifying
00:36:14maybe you know
00:36:14a little bit
00:36:15a little bit more
00:36:17we were talking
00:36:18about this
00:36:19earlier on
00:36:20exactly
00:36:20I'm answering
00:36:21the question
00:36:22no commenting
00:36:23look at this
00:36:24moment
00:36:26we spoke about
00:36:27this before
00:36:28as well
00:36:29the car sparking
00:36:30away
00:36:31but no
00:36:31I mean
00:36:32we were saying
00:36:32the days of
00:36:33sandbagging
00:36:34might be
00:36:35more of a thing
00:36:36of the past
00:36:36because if you do that
00:36:39you're actually
00:36:40not going to end up
00:36:41with the right data
00:36:41in terms of your
00:36:42energy deployment
00:36:43when it comes to
00:36:44that critical
00:36:45qualifying session
00:36:46you have to learn
00:36:47where to deploy
00:36:49and where to harvest
00:36:49the energy
00:36:50based on
00:36:51what the car's
00:36:52potential can be
00:36:54so the more grip
00:36:55that you put into it
00:36:56therefore the less fuel
00:36:58you put into it
00:36:58so hence
00:36:59some qualifying effort
00:37:01the more grip
00:37:02you have
00:37:02the more problems
00:37:03you create
00:37:03on a circuit
00:37:04like this
00:37:04because if you
00:37:05look at the
00:37:06ultimate
00:37:06if you take it
00:37:07to the absolute
00:37:09of that
00:37:10if you gave
00:37:11Stroll
00:37:11the most grip
00:37:13possible
00:37:13to make sure
00:37:14that he could
00:37:15take the entire
00:37:15lap flat out
00:37:16imagine he had
00:37:17so much grip
00:37:18way more grip
00:37:19than power
00:37:20and he could
00:37:21take therefore
00:37:21the whole circuit
00:37:22flat out
00:37:22where are you
00:37:23getting your
00:37:23energy recovery
00:37:24from
00:37:24so you have
00:37:27to lift off
00:37:28and brake
00:37:28at some point
00:37:29so the faster
00:37:30you go
00:37:30the bigger
00:37:32the difference
00:37:33is
00:37:33and the bigger
00:37:34the problem
00:37:34is in terms
00:37:35of recouping
00:37:36your energy
00:37:37so you've
00:37:38got to keep
00:37:38it real
00:37:39if you poot
00:37:40around
00:37:40in testing
00:37:42sandbagging
00:37:42like the old
00:37:42days
00:37:43when it comes
00:37:44to qualifying
00:37:44you're going
00:37:44to have
00:37:45a completely
00:37:46different car
00:37:47under you
00:37:47and therefore
00:37:48different power
00:37:49deployment
00:37:50for what it's
00:37:50been set up
00:37:51and learnt
00:37:52to do
00:37:52interesting
00:37:53I think that's
00:37:53a great point
00:37:54to touch on
00:37:55that
00:37:56when we're
00:37:56speaking about
00:37:57two and five
00:37:57just before
00:37:58and it not being
00:37:58flat
00:37:59and that
00:38:00comes down
00:38:00to maybe
00:38:01simulations
00:38:01that were
00:38:02ran on
00:38:02let's say
00:38:0210-15 kg
00:38:03fuel
00:38:04and the simulator
00:38:05is easy
00:38:06flat
00:38:06right
00:38:06we come
00:38:06here to
00:38:07the track
00:38:07we're maybe
00:38:07running
00:38:08the typical
00:38:0930 kg
00:38:09you know
00:38:10free practice
00:38:11fuel load
00:38:11and all of a
00:38:12sudden
00:38:12turn five's
00:38:13not flat
00:38:13so we're lifting
00:38:14so now
00:38:14energy deployment
00:38:15for the remainder
00:38:15of that
00:38:15is just
00:38:16completely up
00:38:16in the air
00:38:17out comes
00:38:18George Russell
00:38:19onto the track
00:38:1925 minutes
00:38:21sorry
00:38:2124 minutes
00:38:22gone
00:38:22and George Russell
00:38:24was the fastest
00:38:24driver
00:38:25on the circuit
00:38:26that is where
00:38:27he has his
00:38:27dominance
00:38:28over his
00:38:28teammate
00:38:29through the
00:38:29slower
00:38:30corners
00:38:30Kimi Antonelli
00:38:31seems to be
00:38:32doing a little
00:38:33bit better
00:38:33but it's
00:38:34George
00:38:34by a tenth
00:38:35of a lap
00:38:35nearly two
00:38:35tenths
00:38:36that has
00:38:36the fastest
00:38:37time
00:38:47welcome
00:38:47back
00:38:4732 and a
00:38:49half minutes
00:38:49to go
00:38:49we're just
00:38:50talking
00:38:50George Russell
00:38:51has been
00:38:52off somewhere
00:38:54safely
00:38:55rejoins
00:38:55the circuit
00:38:56you can
00:38:57see that
00:38:57it was
00:38:58down
00:38:58turn four
00:38:59where we
00:39:00saw
00:39:01Sergio
00:39:01Perez
00:39:02have a
00:39:02moment
00:39:02in
00:39:03FP1
00:39:03I think
00:39:04he might
00:39:04have gone
00:39:05through the
00:39:05gravel
00:39:05at the
00:39:05exit
00:39:05turn
00:39:06three
00:39:06and
00:39:06that
00:39:06was
00:39:07him
00:39:07back
00:39:07on
00:39:08into
00:39:08the
00:39:08inside
00:39:09of
00:39:09turn
00:39:09four
00:39:10so
00:39:10we
00:39:10saw
00:39:10Verstappen
00:39:11go
00:39:12off
00:39:12there
00:39:12well
00:39:12he
00:39:13locked up
00:39:13down
00:39:13didn't
00:39:14he
00:39:14the
00:39:15tyres get
00:39:15colder
00:39:16in this
00:39:17era
00:39:17of
00:39:18Formula
00:39:18One
00:39:20but
00:39:20they're
00:39:21notoriously
00:39:22difficult
00:39:22to slow
00:39:23down
00:39:23as well
00:39:24we see
00:39:24a lot
00:39:24of
00:39:25inconsistencies
00:39:25so far
00:39:26with these
00:39:26new
00:39:27power
00:39:27units
00:39:28new
00:39:28regulations
00:39:28and
00:39:29yeah
00:39:30turn
00:39:30three
00:39:31is also
00:39:31just
00:39:32you know
00:39:33you're not
00:39:33straight line
00:39:34braking
00:39:34it's bumpy
00:39:35as you can
00:39:35see
00:39:35that car
00:39:36right
00:39:36there
00:39:36great
00:39:37shot
00:39:37in the
00:39:37slow
00:39:38mo
00:39:38as well
00:39:38you really
00:39:39get to
00:39:39see
00:39:39exactly
00:39:40the
00:39:40movement
00:39:40at the
00:39:40front
00:39:41axle
00:39:41as it
00:39:41going
00:39:42over
00:39:42those
00:39:42bumps
00:39:42and
00:39:43yeah
00:39:43once
00:39:44it
00:39:44locks
00:39:44it's
00:39:44so
00:39:47stopped
00:39:47the
00:39:47car
00:39:48you know
00:39:48going
00:39:49over
00:39:49the
00:39:49bumps
00:39:49couldn't
00:39:49put
00:39:50the
00:39:50brake
00:39:50pressure
00:39:50on
00:39:50post
00:39:51bumps
00:39:51put a
00:39:52bit
00:39:52you know
00:39:52was holding
00:39:52a bit
00:39:53pressure
00:39:53while turning
00:39:54and
00:39:54you see
00:39:55the lock
00:39:55up
00:39:55and
00:39:55George
00:39:56now
00:39:56behind
00:39:56by a
00:39:57tenth of
00:39:57a second
00:39:57to his
00:39:58teammate
00:39:58Kimi Antonelli
00:39:59Hamilton
00:40:00Piastri
00:40:00Lindblad
00:40:01the top
00:40:02five
00:40:02Max Verstappen
00:40:03back out
00:40:04and on
00:40:04the medium
00:40:05tyre
00:40:06for the
00:40:07time being
00:40:07we've got to
00:40:08let you go
00:40:08in a moment
00:40:09Jack
00:40:09but you talked
00:40:10about the
00:40:10return
00:40:10with Haas
00:40:12as a
00:40:13pathway to
00:40:17none
00:40:17oh
00:40:18you mean
00:40:18not F1
00:40:20but
00:40:20I was going
00:40:21to say
00:40:22that's how
00:40:23focused he is
00:40:24he only thinks
00:40:25F1
00:40:26yes ideally
00:40:27just
00:40:29as I'm sure
00:40:30with how late
00:40:31my announcement
00:40:31was for Haas
00:40:32the other things
00:40:34and other
00:40:34form of racing
00:40:36follows that
00:40:37in terms of
00:40:38how I can
00:40:39really start
00:40:39to get that
00:40:40structure
00:40:40in place
00:40:41so
00:40:42not many
00:40:42options
00:40:43on the table
00:40:44when you come
00:40:44around to
00:40:44February
00:40:45of a race
00:40:46season
00:40:46as I'm sure
00:40:46you can
00:40:47understand
00:40:47but hopefully
00:40:48have something
00:40:49soon
00:40:50even if it's
00:40:51in endurance
00:40:51to ensure
00:40:52that I stay
00:40:53race fit
00:40:53I'd love to be
00:40:54racing
00:40:54haven't raced
00:40:55for a while
00:40:56now
00:40:57excluding
00:40:57the 7 races
00:40:58that I did
00:40:59it was in
00:40:59a pretty short
00:41:00period of time
00:41:00so I need
00:41:01to get behind
00:41:02the wheel
00:41:02need to get
00:41:03some racing
00:41:03and just
00:41:04stay race fit
00:41:05and test
00:41:06every few months
00:41:07or whatever
00:41:08it might be
00:41:08but it's
00:41:09actually better
00:41:10to be not
00:41:10testing every
00:41:11few months
00:41:11and just
00:41:12racing
00:41:12consistently
00:41:13with the
00:41:14helmet on
00:41:14the head
00:41:14it's
00:41:15much more
00:41:16beneficial
00:41:16these cars
00:41:17nowadays
00:41:18in Formula 1
00:41:19it's so complex
00:41:21they're like
00:41:21computers on wheels
00:41:22and you need time
00:41:23as a young driver
00:41:24you need to be
00:41:25allowed to have
00:41:26the time
00:41:27to flourish
00:41:29my personal opinion
00:41:30Jack
00:41:30you haven't been
00:41:31allowed that time
00:41:32yet
00:41:32so yeah
00:41:33I wish you all the
00:41:34best for the future
00:41:35thank you very much
00:41:36last year was hard
00:41:36mate
00:41:37I'm glad to see
00:41:38you're still smiling
00:41:38glad to see you're
00:41:39still with the sport
00:41:40as well
00:41:40I'm glad to see
00:41:41that I'm still
00:41:41invited up here
00:41:42you are welcome
00:41:43anytime you want
00:41:44and if you fancy
00:41:46look I don't live
00:41:47far from the
00:41:48Haas factory
00:41:49if you want to
00:41:49come around
00:41:49watch a bit of
00:42:04Mavs
00:42:05we've not seen
00:42:06him in this
00:42:06FP2 session
00:42:08no and they're
00:42:09hoping that you
00:42:09will
00:42:10Crofty
00:42:10but we've had
00:42:11confirmation from
00:42:12the team
00:42:12it's a funny one
00:42:13actually
00:42:13the team just said
00:42:14there was a sensor
00:42:14problem with the
00:42:16car which they're
00:42:16fixing and they
00:42:17hope to get
00:42:17Perez's Cadillac
00:42:18out by the end
00:42:19of the session
00:42:23it must be a sensor
00:42:24buried very deep
00:42:25inside because the
00:42:26power unit wasn't
00:42:27on the battery
00:42:28wasn't in at the
00:42:28start of the session
00:42:30and just now the
00:42:31engine has been
00:42:31fired up for the
00:42:32first time and then
00:42:33they've got a little
00:42:34bit more work to do
00:42:35so I think there
00:42:36were some other
00:42:37issues apart from a
00:42:39sensor or maybe the
00:42:39sensor was in a very
00:42:41difficult to get to
00:42:42place within the
00:42:43battery and the
00:42:43power unit etc
00:42:45but it is quite a lot
00:42:46of work Sergio Perez
00:42:47not in the car as I
00:42:48think you can see
00:42:49and while Max
00:42:50Verstappen is back
00:42:51out on track as
00:42:52noted about a minute
00:42:53ago it doesn't look
00:42:55like Perez is going
00:42:55to be out within the
00:42:56next 10-15 minutes
00:42:57hopefully as Cadillac
00:42:58says he will be out
00:42:59for some running
00:43:00before the end of
00:43:01FP2
00:43:01thank you Ted
00:43:03so no Perez
00:43:04we have two Aston
00:43:05Martins out on the
00:43:06track and we have
00:43:06Lewis Hamilton just
00:43:08crossing the line and
00:43:09going third fastest
00:43:10yeah I thought he was
00:43:11going to just pip
00:43:13George Russell there
00:43:14but only well just
00:43:15over a tenth away
00:43:17and yeah he did
00:43:19faster and slower in
00:43:20different sectors
00:43:23it looks like the top
00:43:25four really are quite
00:43:27close yeah we don't
00:43:28know what the order is
00:43:28going to be but
00:43:29Mercedes seem to have
00:43:30pulled themselves right
00:43:32into play in this
00:43:34FP2 session because
00:43:35it looked like they're
00:43:36a bit off through
00:43:38FP1
00:43:39so we've got all the new
00:43:40learning for battery
00:43:42management and deployment
00:43:44and yada yada yada
00:43:45don't forget of course
00:43:47that the teams are also
00:43:48learning a bit about
00:43:49these tyres because we
00:43:50didn't have a lot of
00:43:52usage on the C4 and the
00:43:53C5 during the course
00:43:55of the Bahrain test
00:43:57only Williams Aston
00:43:58Alpine and Cadillac
00:43:59brought a C5 to Bahrain
00:44:01Mercedes didn't bring a
00:44:02C4 it's the medium tyre
00:44:04this weekend they didn't
00:44:05bring a C4 to Bahrain
00:44:07at all so they've got
00:44:08little or no knowledge
00:44:09of some of these
00:44:10compounds so there's that
00:44:12bit to try and learn to
00:44:13as Arvid Lindblad goes
00:44:15into the top six and so
00:44:17far touch wood for the
00:44:19young rookie he is doing
00:44:21a super job he really is
00:44:23I hope I hope he's on
00:44:25relative fuel compared to
00:44:27his teammate more
00:44:28experienced obviously
00:44:29Lawson and we've got
00:44:30another lock up into the
00:44:33tricky turn three and you
00:44:34know what we have to as we
00:44:36did in Bahrain testing it's
00:44:38not all driver this you
00:44:40know the it happens too
00:44:41frequently for us to keep
00:44:45leaning on the driver and
00:44:46say oh you know they've
00:44:47got to work out their
00:44:47braking zone or it's the
00:44:48bumps blah blah blah it's
00:44:50not it's there's more
00:44:51complexities there underneath
00:44:53them that is inconsistent
00:44:55when they hit the brake
00:44:56pedal sometimes the you'll
00:44:57get the engine pushing on
00:44:59sometimes there's too much
00:45:00retardation through the
00:45:02electric motor and in
00:45:02mechanical brakes and it
00:45:04you know it's different
00:45:06every time the driver puts
00:45:07their foot on the brake
00:45:08they don't quite know what
00:45:09they're going to do under
00:45:10a normal race lap it
00:45:12might be a bit easier
00:45:13because you naturally
00:45:14drive with a bit more
00:45:14margin but when you start
00:45:16to push that envelope of
00:45:18where the braking point
00:45:18is and you get something
00:45:20slightly different well
00:45:22you're off the track
00:45:22exactly that's a human
00:45:24wall at Williams and
00:45:25Carla Science isn't going
00:45:26anywhere for quite a
00:45:28while I was just when
00:45:31we were talking about
00:45:31tyres before Crofty
00:45:32one thing that was
00:45:33incredibly hard for the
00:45:35development of these
00:45:36particular regulations
00:45:37for the difference of
00:45:39aero and the different
00:45:41dimensions of these cars
00:45:43and philosophy it's not
00:45:44ground flexed car anymore
00:45:45the cars are higher off
00:45:46the ground more softly
00:45:48sprung so you had these
00:45:49slightly narrower tyres
00:45:51and tweaks to the
00:45:52therefore the compounds
00:45:54and the construction
00:45:56because they're having to
00:45:57deal with a lot less load
00:45:58going through them
00:45:59cars have got a lot less
00:46:00downforce but without
00:46:02any real data to go by
00:46:04when you're doing your
00:46:05early simulations with
00:46:06your new cars in the
00:46:08virtual world well what
00:46:09do you really base your
00:46:10tyre work on how do you
00:46:12create a tyre model
00:46:13that's a fair point
00:46:14and that so that's
00:46:15something for the fans
00:46:16to try and appreciate
00:46:17in all of these
00:46:18simulations going on
00:46:19they're actually the
00:46:20mechanical hardware so
00:46:22the power unit itself
00:46:23the internal combustion
00:46:24engine you can put that
00:46:26on a dyno you get real
00:46:27world figures from it
00:46:28but a tyre how do you
00:46:30put into software ones
00:46:33and zeros what a racing
00:46:34tyre does on a bit of
00:46:35tarmac well what they do
00:46:37is they do have
00:46:38different bits of tarmac
00:46:40at the factory that
00:46:42simply that they're
00:46:43actually taken from the
00:46:45same makeup as the
00:46:46racing circuits and
00:46:47they will have the tyres
00:46:48from Pirelli to test it
00:46:50on but they can't put
00:46:50exact loads through it all
00:46:52the time you can't
00:46:53break the go quickest
00:46:54here by the way as he
00:46:55crosses the line now and
00:46:56does by two tenths of a
00:46:58second but watch for
00:46:58Leclerc who's gone
00:46:59fastest in that middle
00:47:00sector but three tenths
00:47:02down flying on the exit
00:47:03of turn ten but yeah
00:47:04look these are the
00:47:06hurdles that all of the
00:47:07teams have had to try
00:47:08and get over in their
00:47:09development of these
00:47:10cars and that's why
00:47:11usually you would see
00:47:12quite a big difference
00:47:13between performances
00:47:14someone's going to get
00:47:15it more right than
00:47:16others but the fact that
00:47:17we're talking already in
00:47:20an FV2 session of only a
00:47:22couple of tenths between
00:47:23these top four teams
00:47:24I think it's quite
00:47:25remarkable
00:47:25yeah absolutely
00:47:26we're into the 119s as
00:47:28well now
00:47:29with that Piastri lap
00:47:31two seconds or two and
00:47:32a half seconds slower
00:47:33than the FP1 fastest
00:47:35time from last year
00:47:37which was Charles Leclerc
00:47:38with the one 16.4
00:47:39Verstappen is on the
00:47:41soft tyre
00:47:42now did he just
00:47:44back off a little bit
00:47:46going into that
00:47:46or was that deployment
00:47:47it's a lift and coast
00:47:48so basically what's
00:47:49happening here you need
00:47:50a very high battery
00:47:52state of charge
00:47:52before this very long
00:47:54straight
00:47:54so if you hadn't got
00:47:55that battery topped up
00:47:57enough
00:47:57exactly
00:47:58it was like right
00:47:58crisis mode
00:48:00I need to lift and coast
00:48:01top it up so I don't
00:48:02lose then on the straight
00:48:03exactly so it's a
00:48:04high speed corner
00:48:05so you get a lot of
00:48:06you know long time
00:48:08off throttle
00:48:08depending on where
00:48:10your deployment is
00:48:10going to come from
00:48:11but turn six is one
00:48:12of those corners
00:48:12where you need your
00:48:13battery to be very high
00:48:15you know somewhere in
00:48:16the region of 80 to
00:48:17100% by turn six
00:48:20and then you use
00:48:20nearly all of that
00:48:22on the exit to
00:48:23propel you down that
00:48:24straight and then
00:48:25these tighter corners
00:48:26around the rest of the
00:48:26lap you harvest it
00:48:28back up again and you
00:48:29restart this this part
00:48:30of the straight
00:48:31so Verstappen crosses
00:48:32the line and he's six
00:48:33and a bit tens down
00:48:34now that could have
00:48:35been three tens down
00:48:36had he not had to have
00:48:38lifted and coasted
00:48:38where he did
00:48:39now watch out for that
00:48:41in qualifying because
00:48:42it could be that you're
00:48:43shot at pole or a
00:48:44shot at a good
00:48:45qualifying Bill Ford
00:48:46here to see the work
00:48:47of his company in
00:48:48tandem with Red Bull
00:48:49powertrains it could
00:48:51be that a moment like
00:48:52Max Verstappen just
00:48:53had really does cost
00:48:54you a couple of rows
00:48:56and there's another
00:48:57lockup going into
00:48:58turn three like turn
00:49:00one and turn ten in
00:49:01Bahrain and testing
00:49:02this is becoming quite
00:49:04commonplace
00:49:05yeah you know drivers
00:49:06arriving into a braking
00:49:07zone at different
00:49:08speeds the engine doing
00:49:09something different
00:49:10when they put their
00:49:11foot on the brake and
00:49:12in terms of the engine
00:49:13braking it's you need
00:49:15to drive with some
00:49:16margin and the drivers
00:49:17that can cope with
00:49:21inconsistencies from
00:49:23lap to lap and not
00:49:24make mistakes they'll
00:49:26be champion this year
00:49:27if they've got the
00:49:28right equipment under
00:49:28them as well
00:49:29George Russell's the
00:49:30bookmaker's favourite
00:49:31and he's going to be
00:49:32investigated after the
00:49:33session by the
00:49:33stewards for failing to
00:49:35follow race directors
00:49:36instructions regarding
00:49:38practice starts and a
00:49:39possible infringement
00:49:40well he was already
00:49:42going to see the
00:49:42stewards for the
00:49:44incident with Arvid
00:49:44Lindblad where he
00:49:45tried to push into
00:49:46the queue thought
00:49:47Arvid Lindblad was
00:49:48leaving a space
00:49:49Arvid didn't in the
00:49:50end and they touched
00:49:52wings I wouldn't
00:49:52imagine there'd be
00:49:53anything more than a
00:49:55little slap on the
00:49:56wrist for either on
00:49:57that one but
00:49:58I mean at the end of
00:49:58the day as well he's
00:49:59the one that got
00:50:00damaged to his car
00:50:01with that moment in
00:50:02the pit and I do
00:50:03believe that was just
00:50:04a genuine misunderstanding
00:50:05between two drivers
00:50:06George trying to be a
00:50:07little bit pushy but
00:50:08the reason why he went
00:50:09for it is because he
00:50:09saw a hesitation from
00:50:11the rookie driver of
00:50:13Lindblad who I think
00:50:13also did the right
00:50:15thing to wait a bit
00:50:17because it's a
00:50:19frantic moment that
00:50:20in the pit lane and
00:50:21it's something he has
00:50:22to get used to as
00:50:23well I didn't see the
00:50:25race start infringement
00:50:26I didn't see what
00:50:27happened there so
00:50:28maybe we can get that
00:50:29maybe up on the sky
00:50:30pad at the end of the
00:50:31session well we can do
00:50:32that certainly fourth
00:50:33fastest for Lewis
00:50:34Hamilton one of three
00:50:35drivers to have led a
00:50:37lap here in Australia
00:50:38last year along with
00:50:39Lando Norris and Max
00:50:41Verstappen he's fourth
00:50:42fastest Piastri quickest
00:50:44so far
00:50:52so Lando Norris seventh
00:50:54fastest he's just
00:50:55completed a lap on the
00:50:56soft tyres Oscar Piastri
00:50:58quickest by two tenths
00:50:59and Zach Brown is
00:51:00watching on the pit wall
00:51:01and luckily for us
00:51:02joining us throughout the
00:51:04weekend Zach happy new
00:51:06year to you what a great
00:51:07new year it is now we've
00:51:08finally come to a racetrack
00:51:10in anger 100% great to be
00:51:12back here in Australia
00:51:14and starting to figure
00:51:16out these cars yeah take
00:51:18us through your day so
00:51:19far there you are
00:51:20defending champions you
00:51:21get onto the track and
00:51:22instantly there's a few
00:51:23issues to address so so
00:51:25take us through it yeah
00:51:26we had a what ended up
00:51:28being a clutch issue with
00:51:30with Lando and I think
00:51:32the first session Oscar
00:51:33wasn't quite dialed in
00:51:35with his power unit some
00:51:37electronics we're getting
00:51:38there Lando still had some
00:51:40some issues here but now
00:51:42we're going to get some
00:51:43running in and then you're
00:51:44seeing kind of various
00:51:45cars shutting down at the
00:51:47end of pit lane so I think
00:51:48everyone's trying to just
00:51:49kind of figure out how to
00:51:50work these cars they're very
00:51:51sophisticated but we'll get
00:51:52it done and it looks like
00:51:53it's all starting to come
00:51:54together
00:51:55Zach it's Anthony here yeah
00:51:57I know that you're a you're
00:51:59a true racer you're into
00:52:00your sports cars you've got
00:52:02your historic cars that you
00:52:03drive quite often what do you
00:52:05make I know it's early days
00:52:06but what do you make of
00:52:07these these new 2026 cars
00:52:10and the new regulations
00:52:12yeah I think it is early
00:52:13days I think we need to
00:52:14see what qualifying and
00:52:16Sunday looks like you know
00:52:18obviously Formula One it's
00:52:20historically been about who
00:52:21can put their foot down the
00:52:22quickest hold it down the
00:52:23longest and break the latest
00:52:26and these cars definitely
00:52:27require a different technique
00:52:30so let's see how it plays
00:52:32out it's Formula One it's
00:52:33early days the technology is
00:52:34awesome and I think we just
00:52:37gotta you know it's early
00:52:38days of very new regulations
00:52:40see how see how things
00:52:41develop we'll get there at
00:52:42the end is there any team
00:52:44Zach McLaren included who
00:52:46think yeah we've actually had
00:52:48a really good day today and
00:52:50we've learned everything we
00:52:51needed to learn
00:52:53we haven't we're still
00:52:55learning so hard to hard to
00:52:57speak for other other teams
00:52:58Ferrari looked really good in
00:53:00the first session and that
00:53:02look good again here so they
00:53:04seem to be at least from
00:53:06watching for a bit long on top
00:53:09of things maybe more than
00:53:10everyone else but early days I
00:53:13think we're getting there now
00:53:14Zach we were following Lando
00:53:16around on his last push lap
00:53:17looks like he's doing a double
00:53:19cooler but on his last push
00:53:21lap I didn't see anything wrong
00:53:23but he was he's quite a way off
00:53:25of his teammate Oscar so has he
00:53:28said anything on the radio at all
00:53:29no not yet but he's had so
00:53:32little running when he lost the
00:53:34first session and that was
00:53:35really his first first go and
00:53:38then you never know what fuel
00:53:39loads various people are running
00:53:42Zach thanks ever so much
00:53:44indeed great to have you with
00:53:45us talk to you again tomorrow
00:53:46thank you take care Zach Brown
00:53:48with us on Sky Sports F1 this
00:53:51weekend you know what he's
00:53:55absolutely right it's I know
00:53:56Lando he's been out there seems
00:53:58like quite a while and there's
00:53:59just 13 and a half minutes
00:54:01remaining of this session but
00:54:02that was his first push lap on
00:54:05the set of soft tires and and
00:54:07that's exactly what we were
00:54:08talking about before wasn't it
00:54:09how on a circuit like this
00:54:11where you need to be brave you
00:54:13need to carry the speeds you see
00:54:15the two McLarens there down the
00:54:17main straight running I thought
00:54:19for a minute he was about to give
00:54:21Oscar a lovely toe to start his
00:54:22lap but maybe Oscar was trying to
00:54:24overtake him and they were just
00:54:25going for a little bit of
00:54:26simulated overtaking practice yeah
00:54:28that's so that's Lando started
00:54:30another push lap isn't it yeah
00:54:32I'd like to see how these how they
00:54:33get on through this and we should
00:54:34therefore see Lando edge away from
00:54:37Piastri he looks to be on this on
00:54:40the side on the circuit map at least
00:54:41we can see the driver tracker as we
00:54:43continue to watch and right on board
00:54:45with now Kimi Antonelli let's listen
00:54:46for turn six
00:54:50yeah it's very similar to that of
00:54:52Max Verstappen that double downshift
00:54:54before that corner and you can see
00:54:56that they're they're battling a car
00:54:58all the drivers now with a car a lot
00:55:00less downforce than last year and it
00:55:03makes that corner because of the less
00:55:05downforce makes it even more sketchy
00:55:07and the car moving around more under
00:55:09you this looks like Kimi's on a proper
00:55:11kind of race simulation now on a long
00:55:14run set of hard tires and very
00:55:17different cornering speeds therefore
00:55:19Lando Norris personal best in the
00:55:22first sector was about a tenth off
00:55:24and the fastest first sector time
00:55:26then actually was about three tenths
00:55:28off sorry and then lost a bit more
00:55:30during the middle part of the lap
00:55:32there he is behind Kimi Antonelli
00:55:34crosses the line and seven fastest for
00:55:38Lando Norris 1.2 seconds off the
00:55:40pace ahead of Arvid Lindblad by the
00:55:44way do you remember Hungary 2007
00:55:49Fernando Alonso in the pit lane
00:55:51holding up Lewis Hamilton in
00:55:53qualifying yeah I mean I started yeah
00:55:55he's in the race yeah yeah start the
00:55:57whole squad gate thing I kind of
00:55:58remember yeah I'm just saying yeah you
00:56:00were in the race four days after that
00:56:02Arvid Lindblad was born oh come on
00:56:05seriously why did you have to do that
00:56:09well I was there too but I'm older than
00:56:12you so it matters not right that's how
00:56:15young he is my friend
00:56:17he's just awful welcome to old age
00:56:21wow yeah four days after Hungary
00:56:25Lance Stroll box box we have an issue
00:56:28that's a familiar radio message I'm afraid
00:56:31for him throughout the testing period and so
00:56:34far this weekend I assume then he is coming
00:56:37into the pits already down there Ted
00:56:39Kravitz and down at Aston Martin actually
00:56:42because I had a bit of better news about
00:56:45Fernando Alonso because he's managed to do
00:56:47nine laps so far and as Lance comes and
00:56:50stops just in front of me Alonso has done
00:56:52nine laps so far the car is holding out and
00:56:55it was actually holding out long enough for
00:56:58Alonso to do a front suspension change so
00:57:00that's a bit of setup work that Alonso
00:57:02was able to do he's just gone out on a
00:57:04brand new set of soft tires so that would
00:57:07also indicate that they're doing some
00:57:08single run pace even though Adrian knew he
00:57:11said earlier they haven't been able to
00:57:13run low fuel because Honda don't really
00:57:16want them to because they oh Ted oh something
00:57:18Max Verstappen turned 10 big off managed to
00:57:22hold it and get back out of the track and
00:57:24this time last year that might have been
00:57:26careering even more to the barriers but
00:57:28that has damaged the underside the tea
00:57:31tray the bits of carbon fiber have come off
00:57:34as well that was quite a nervy scary moment
00:57:38even for a full-time world champion 125
00:57:40miles an hour he's approaching this
00:57:43corner and this what happens oh it just
00:57:45got a such a late snap of oversteer so
00:57:48lucky that he kept the car out of the
00:57:50barrier but I think enough damage was done
00:57:52already to the underside of the car like you
00:57:54mentioned there and the gravel alone has
00:57:57done the damage to the to the underfloor of the car
00:58:00what bit actually fell off is it the new
00:58:02barge board on the left that I see fly off
00:58:09no it's been in the floor looks like a bit of the the the rear of the floor but Ted
00:58:13is down
00:58:14there he's going to see it come in under his nose I'm sure at some point very soon he's
00:58:19scampered off to uh have a look we'll try and get back to Ted in a little while this time
00:58:23last
00:58:23year uh that car's going even closer I think uh towards the uh the barracks but great control from
00:58:30Max Verstappen to hold that it was that late snap was the thing that caught him out there and
00:58:37something that's difficult for these drivers this year on particularly for the more experienced
00:58:42drivers ironically is relearning corner speeds yeah because last year you know we mentioned turn six
00:58:48already turn 10 is another one you had such an impressive amount of downforce at a corner like
00:58:55that last year so if you have a lapse of concentration now and you just remember the
00:59:00good old days uh from and suddenly you're going a lot quicker than what your car can actually do
00:59:07it might feel slow for you because you're doing a race run and you just relax into it suddenly the
00:59:12the car doesn't like it but that yeah that was a a huge moment he corrected and kept the car
00:59:18out
00:59:18the barrier but still it came from his initial mistake of of carrying too much speed mid-corner
00:59:24if you were Max Verstappen after that moment what would you do would you pit or would you carry on
00:59:31uh
00:59:31pit uh change my Nomex underwear um hopefully by that time the car was fixed and I can get back
00:59:37out of it
00:59:37yeah Max is carrying on so therefore Nomex no change for Max Verstappen and he carries on that
00:59:47was Charles Leclerc having his own little grass cutting moment uh down at turn one just under eight
00:59:52minutes to go of this session and Sergio Perez powering down the uh main straight has Kimi Antonelli
01:00:00right behind him see this is one of those situations Crofty where Perez was starting a lap so he's
01:00:06limping around the final corner Kimi Antonelli is on a race run so he's not limping around the final
01:00:11corner because he's he's in that's just ruined Sergio's nicely planned gap isn't it that's why you
01:00:17saw Perez come back at the Mercedes very rapidly down towards Tomo but he couldn't quite get the move done
01:00:23and that's that for me that's a quite a unique situation for free practice yeah you won't really
01:00:32see that in qualifying um because you'll be monitoring more closely the gaps in front and behind
01:00:41maybe q1 when all of the cars are out there you you might see things like that happen as cars
01:00:46are
01:00:46finishing their fast lap as you're starting it but in that situation obviously Antonelli would have
01:00:52backed out because he would have finished his fast lap so that exact scenario is unique to a free
01:00:57practice session and that won't be the last time we see it uh no well we got at least well
01:01:02we got
01:01:03another 23 FP1 sessions to do and then we got sprints another 17 FP2 sessions we got a long way
01:01:12to go
01:01:12this year Ted down to you sir so Max did do one more lap and then he came in because
01:01:19they'd seen on the
01:01:20telemetry that he'd uh he'd made a mess of the floor and uh i don't know if we we should
01:01:25get a
01:01:26shot because there's still grass as you would expect not only all over the front wing but also
01:01:31the tea tray which is the forward part of the floor uh maybe the bib they call it the bib
01:01:36as well i'm sure
01:01:36formula one will have a shot of it quite soon in the garage but Max has really taken off the
01:01:41front of
01:01:41that uh of that teat of that bib the tea tray and also damaged a bit of the barge board
01:01:47uh as well so
01:01:48maybe it was worth carrying on for a little bit but now that team radio Sergio Perez has stopped the
01:01:53car oh no they've got another issue i'm afraid he's not even had a chance to get a full lap
01:01:58in
01:01:58and just before turn 12 Sergio Perez has had to pull over to the side and stop his Cadillac what
01:02:06a
01:02:06frustrating Ted Kravitz yeah afternoon for him at the team and all the Cadillac mechanics i mean all
01:02:11these mechanics have been doing all-nighters with the delay to the freight um because of the uh the
01:02:16flight disruption worldwide and uh they've been working so hard to get it ready for this session
01:02:22so uh bad luck to Sergio Perez and Cadillac but yeah it's going to take a bit of time for
01:02:26the Red Bull
01:02:27mechanics to fix this enough time to complete in session probably not but it looks like Verstappen
01:02:31has as good a read as he needs to he's just about preparing to get out of the car
01:02:36Anthony have you got time for a question from down here or is something else happening go for it
01:02:40so we saw who was it we saw lift it was max we saw uh lifting off before that corner
01:02:45to uh to charge
01:02:46the battery turns a little bit turn six okay if the skill of a great grand prix driver is in
01:02:53how
01:02:53they handle and corners essentially anyone can drive a car in a straight line it's it's how you get
01:02:58through the corners quick enough that really dictates much of the skill how is the skill level and the
01:03:04way that we assess the skill of grand prix drive is going to change given that a lot of the
01:03:08time
01:03:09they'll be approaching these corners slower because they're lifting off to charge the battery well it's
01:03:13it's the same as i guess i mean you you're a pilot yourself ted so uh you you understand i'd
01:03:19like to
01:03:19talk about it well yeah okay well you you fly planes um and so therefore there's a lot of box
01:03:26ticking that
01:03:26you need to do as well as flying the plane and that's what these drivers are having to do now
01:03:31so you need extra capacity and i feel like in the days of say traction control you needed even less
01:03:40capacity yep you went through corners arguably faster but actually you know i drove cars with
01:03:45traction control and cars without both formula one cars and i can tell you now without traction
01:03:51track it was a much harder thing to drive because the car was doing some of the work for you
01:03:55yeah
01:03:55so these things are as we've seen from verstappen in turn 10 very hard to drive and probably going
01:04:02to see with isaac hadjar his teammate into 13 under the brakes once again you know they're they're
01:04:08unpredictable beasts to to try and handle and that's all part of the driver skill as well as the
01:04:14mental capacity you need these days to make sure you're ticking those boxes off as from the engineers
01:04:21have told you to lift off in this zone be in that gear for that corner uh use the boost
01:04:26button here or
01:04:27use the boost button there you have to be systematic in where you use all of these tools and remember
01:04:34what you should be doing and all different scenarios as well as throwing the car through corners at high
01:04:39speed yeah and that has become the new skill the level of you end up driving this even in the
01:04:46simulator your brain hurts by the end of the day and that's the new challenge for these drivers you
01:04:52almost need don't you to record a little message to yourself like a like when you're on a hop on
01:04:56hop
01:04:56off bus and you're going sightseeing and you get to a certain point and then this message comes on
01:05:01your headphones this this is the tower of london they used to talk people's heads off here and
01:05:06oh this is tower bridge it opens up and and you could just not you're not selling one of these
01:05:11tours very well i love it i'm a massive hop on hop off bus fan trust me um but you
01:05:16almost need to have
01:05:17that in your brain this is turn five this is what i do this is turn six this is what
01:05:22i do well you say
01:05:23you know but they already they already do that yeah with with lights and beeps that you have on the
01:05:31steering wheel and on the dash and they're looking at all this stuff as well uh as well as trying
01:05:37to
01:05:37navigate their their cars through high-speed corners and the strange thing is that sometimes you know you
01:05:43put your foot down and you've got a completely different we spoke about this in bahrain testing
01:05:47you've got a completely different level of power say on the exit of this final corner here you'll be
01:05:52at maximum power for a brief amount of time the exit of turn 12 you'll be maybe half the power
01:05:59that he
01:05:59would have experienced on the exit of the final corner and and remembering where what the car is
01:06:04going to do or likely to do in in every corner that's such a counter-intuitive thing for the driver
01:06:11question for you then as charlotte claire is the next one to lock up going to turn three on your
01:06:17dash
01:06:17do you have a state of charge display where at least you know what your battery's got to be able
01:06:23to
01:06:23give you coming out of the corner yeah i mean absolutely you do you you live on it you absolutely
01:06:28live on it and you will do mostly it comes sunday yeah that's the thing i'm most excited by all
01:06:33of it
01:06:33is sunday i cannot wait to see you give these 22 drivers the ability to use a 470 horsepower boost
01:06:42button
01:06:43obviously for a finite amount of time through the lap but you can use it at will wherever you want
01:06:50really at different spots around the track what do you think might happen i mean i don't know
01:06:55i'm gonna use it all by turn three it's like it's like how if imagine if you had a whole
01:07:01load of
01:07:01people and exactly the same salary is that you spend your money how you want within that month or two
01:07:06yeah you everyone wants to spend their money differently i'm going out on the first friday night
01:07:12and i'm gonna blow it all yeah so what have i got for the rest of the month oh ouch
01:07:18so and that is
01:07:20that's your boost pump today so you know you've got this energy in the battery and and therefore you
01:07:25need your the state of charge to be telling you you need to be aware of how much uh how
01:07:31much you've got
01:07:32under your so here we go look both cars running straight mode obviously down towards turn nine
01:07:39this is portoletto and hamilton this is good no leclerc isn't it yes and um i'm just fascinated
01:07:46to see how these cars race each other how close can you follow in corners that's still a bit of
01:07:52an
01:07:52unknown it got to pretty disappointing levels i think at the end of last year you just couldn't
01:07:58follow anywhere near close enough and i'm really i pray that they've gone a long way to resolve that this
01:08:04year how many overtakes you think we got here last year even with the rain i i honestly i don't
01:08:11it
01:08:11didn't feel like that that many it wasn't 17 after the first lap there you go this has been a
01:08:18very
01:08:18tough track for yeah for race ability basically with with last year's cars and drs so i always felt drs
01:08:28was a bit of a band-aid anyway for the for the it was an effective band-aid it worked
01:08:33yeah it worked
01:08:33but it was uh the root cause was you couldn't follow each other close enough yes so we ended up
01:08:39with
01:08:39drs so i'm i'm hopeful that with drivers being able to use different levels of power through through
01:08:48on different corners and different laps that you might get kind of a bit more organic racing perhaps
01:08:54so that's that's what i hoped for me too on that one um suspected hydraulics issue for uh sergio perez
01:09:01and that's what stops him out on the track uh they'll confirm that cadillac when the car
01:09:06gets back to the garage which will be shortly because we're getting to the end of the f1 action
01:09:12on track for today there's the same as completely different power unit but same as album yeah in in
01:09:18fp1 he had to pull over a very similar part of the track just a few corners before so that's
01:09:25fp2 done
01:09:26and uh piastri sets the uh the benchmark this time around and ferrari is still up there of course but
01:09:36down in fourth and fifth do you think that ferrari were running slightly lower fuel loads compared to
01:09:41the others maybe uh in this morning's session because well charlotte claire was half a second
01:09:47ahead of um lewis hamilton and he's ended up half a second behind oscar piastri that piastri's improved
01:09:54antonelli's improved russell's improved uh lewis hamilton's improved but charlotte claire
01:09:59albeit has probably improved but not enough it respectively with with the others now let's
01:10:05have a listen to the start shall we with arvid livlad nice sounds pretty clean and you can see the
01:10:20rev lights are in the center of the dash there just letting him know which revs to be holding before
01:10:26the start and it it's very hard to as the turbo starting to spool up the revs obviously want to
01:10:33creep up as well so you've got to be backing off the throttle as as the engine's getting more
01:10:39propulsion under itself as the turbo spins up so it's very hard these days to keep the revs
01:10:44in an accurate state so but the the red bull powertrain pu at least seems to be
01:10:52pretty responsive in in that regard but no more so than this guy here we're looking at on screen
01:10:57charlotte claire what have they got up their sleeves that looks pretty rapid to me anyway
01:11:03from what that that shot we saw and look look how far ahead he is already i think they could
01:11:09they
01:11:09could start on the third row and still be a and be a menace to the front row definitely here
01:11:15into turn
01:11:15one bring that on uh this field spread forget the two aston martins and forget sergio peres who didn't
01:11:22get the time lap in vouchery bottas up to oscar piastri less than four seconds 3.9 seconds uh and
01:11:29to be
01:11:29honest that's for the first day of proper running at a race weekend that is a field spread that
01:11:36actually is is not bad at all and probably better than some expectations it's very respectable in my
01:11:43opinion you know to be within five seconds i think for a brand new outfit like cadillac really very
01:11:47respectable meanwhile the man who was given the don award uh back in november 2025 last year as the as
01:11:54the
01:11:54best athlete in australia oscar piastri is the don round here this afternoon as well uh two tenths
01:12:01ahead of kimmy antonelli fastest in fp2 george russell lewis hamilton charlotte complete the top five
01:12:07half a second between them max verstappen big off at turn 10 uh managed to hold it but damage to
01:12:14the
01:12:14floor and he came in a couple of laps later lando norris uh making up for lost time a second
01:12:20off the
01:12:20pace the defending champion arvid limblad in the top eight both sessions today isaac hadjar and
01:12:25esteban ock on complete the top 10. fernando alonso lance stroll uh got onto the track aston martin put
01:12:32in 31 laps a very useful data sergio peres didn't set a time but that is day one done
01:12:43what a fascinating day we've had so far here in melbourne it's not over yet though because the
01:12:48f1 show is on the way for you very shortly with simon and the gang they'll be looking back at
01:12:53this
01:12:53first day of this 2026 season 6 15 it is on air on sky sports f1 and the rest of
01:13:01the weekend looks like
01:13:01this saturday final practice 10 past one in the morning qualifying for the australian grand prix it's
01:13:07going to be incredibly interesting seeing how this pans out 10 past four on saturday morning
01:13:11and then the race on sunday lights out at 4 a.m set your alarms for this one we're on
01:13:17air from 2 30
01:13:18in the morning on sunday and there's all this to look forward to
01:13:25i watched lando celebrate and i sat in my car as i pulled him from the pits in abu dhabi
01:13:31and i wanted to
01:13:32watch because i thought that would feel me more and i think it has and i feel ready to give
01:13:39it
01:13:39everything you're not the favorites to win the championship this year george russell is the
01:13:45competitive order after testing do you still see mercedes oh so you you think kimmy antarelli might
01:13:51might as george russell you never know just saying mercedes are mercedes have looked very good but it's a
01:13:56very long year so i'm not getting ahead of myself i think we still have a chance and uh we
01:13:59will be doing
01:14:00our best to fight everyone possible never driven a supercar never driven a supercar here we go
01:14:08have you driven this track before no i've got no idea how the car works or where the track goes
01:14:25it was a lot of fun but it was a little scary i'm not going to lie he said they
01:14:29were talking about
01:14:30he was talking about um oscar about how he was going to break and he was like oh my god
01:14:33you left
01:14:33for a break he was i don't know i'll find my way i'll have a feel i was like oh
01:14:36my god when i get in
01:14:37the car he's got two feet if it comes to it you can just hit with both yeah that's true
01:14:41that's true
01:14:42that's true uh yes all that coming up this weekend first of all though i mean he's topped the times
01:14:46today it's been a mixed day but this is brilliant we're getting all sorts of different names up
01:14:50there lewis hamilton the only driver to appear in the top four in both sessions yeah it's really
01:14:54mixed i think it just shows how close those top three teams top four teams are at the moment uh
01:14:59we're
01:14:59never really going to know until qualifying happens and obviously qualifying pace might also be very
01:15:03different to race pace but uh it's great to see they're all so close with such a big regulation
01:15:08change this is really impressive and bernie what did you make of the way they're all trying to the
01:15:13drivers and the teams get to grips with how to manage a lap essentially yeah they're learning a
01:15:17lot you know melbourne is a track where it changes a lot across all of the sessions it's effectively a
01:15:22street track so there's always big track improvement and they've had to go with that they've had to
01:15:27find where their deployment is going we've also got we've not talked about it loads got brand new
01:15:31tires this year so they're learning a lot about how everything's reacting together how to get the best out
01:15:35of the entire package and we think that in that session both mclaren and um mercedes have taken
01:15:42a step forward compared to p1 so it looked on p1 like they were running like a little lower engine
01:15:47mode or something and they've tried to get that out of it in p2 laddo only p7 in that session
01:15:52but a lot
01:15:52of difference between teammates in one session ones ahead then the other ones ahead in the second
01:15:56session we could see a lot of this couldn't we this season as one of them prefers one track and
01:16:00understands it a bit better i guess yeah but the track hasn't changed so it's quite it's quite unusual to
01:16:04see
01:16:04and i think it just shows how close they are and it's whether they get a clean lap
01:16:08and they might be on slightly different strategies as well there's there's such limited time out there
01:16:12with these new packages that they might start uh splitting strategies but for lando is more they
01:16:18just didn't get any practice this morning so you're on the back foot especially with a new a new way
01:16:23of
01:16:23driving around the race track he's been here before he's driven this car before but put it on this track
01:16:28it's very different it takes a bit of time to get used to so he will he will be there
01:16:32you don't want to
01:16:33lose track time bernie but max for seppen did today he had a little off and he had to go
01:16:36back in
01:16:36and they had to do some work on the car on the bib and the tray yeah and i think
01:16:40one of the things as
01:16:41well is that um the wind has picked up a little bit you can feel here in the paddock we've
01:16:45got that out
01:16:46in track as well it's not great to stop the car in gear there had to be pushed back through
01:16:50the petly
01:16:50and so i think what we're seeing even though we talk a lot about the top four and they have
01:16:55looked by
01:16:55far the most reliable they're not immune there's a lot of issues coming out through today we thought the
01:17:01testing was better than i thought it was better than expected less rely on reliability but here
01:17:07today we have started to see those niggas come in like these teams will quickly get to the bottom
01:17:12of some of it but have they found everything yet that's the thing um and any limitation in running
01:17:18means that you're not learning on the compounds of the tires or the gaps or everything that they
01:17:22need to bring together to get a qualifying to work we were praising cadillac earlier because what
01:17:26they've done is incredible to get here and then really unfortunate session for sergio perez first of all
01:17:30a sensor issue and then he when he did get out on track couldn't even do a lap and a
01:17:33hydraulics issue
01:17:34brought him in and and that's not what they need today i guess no definitely not but i mean they
01:17:39they did have a very good fp1 um and to have one car running well in fp2 it's not bad
01:17:45it could be worse
01:17:46so i think they'll be still very positive going into the to the weekend having learned so much um and
01:17:52uh
01:17:52hoping that this same issue is uh well never happens again and bernie what what about the field
01:17:58spread as it is at the moment we were looking after testing at perhaps sort of a four five two
01:18:02situation with the top four then the five midfielders then two up two at the back does it feel that
01:18:07way
01:18:07or do we think aston are just out on their own at the bottom at the moment it definitely i
01:18:12think the
01:18:12four or five is definitely right and then whether you put cadillac and aston together is you know i think
01:18:17the two of those are the struggling the most with reliability they're let's say new teams effectively
01:18:23although we've had aston martin for a long time on the grid we've got new engine new gearbox new
01:18:28designer new wind tunnel there's so much that car is trying to bring together arguably the challenge
01:18:32has been as big as cadillac because they're doing their own you know a honda engine and the new
01:18:37gearbox as well so those two are definitely the two that are struggling and let's see how quickly
01:18:43how many laps ask to do and how quick cadillac can get it to go in order to get within
01:18:48the right time
01:18:48and qualify and to guarantee they're on the grid on sunday which is what we want to see jensen who's
01:18:54going to sleep the best tonight uh well i don't think anyone will be sleeping that well tonight um
01:19:00they're all going to be so excited i think about improving the car they've got so much data today to
01:19:06to go over and try and fine-tune before fb3 tomorrow a lot of excitement in the paddock and
01:19:13i think it's awesome and i think there's been some criticism in it moments about how these cars feel
01:19:18on track but watching it on track it looks on edge it looks lively and that's what we want to
01:19:22see as
01:19:23fans and i think the drivers will learn to love it when they're in a race situation yeah i think
01:19:27it
01:19:27looks good out there we we all come into the season unsure of how it would look how the reason
01:19:32would be but
01:19:33it's really pushing the drivers we've seen a few mistakes a few instances they're having to learn
01:19:37quite a lot um and that's exciting to see when you watch the cars are going quicker at some points
01:19:43in the streets than they ever went last year so that we focus on the d rating there's a lot
01:19:48of action
01:19:48out there and it'll be interesting to see how they race on sunday okay you know a level prediction
01:19:53then who's going to be on pole tomorrow i'm going to go piastri okay jensen uh i'm going to go
01:20:01kimmy
01:20:02okay i'm going to go for a ferrari and i think i'm going to go for lewis hamilton
01:20:06which i think he's had a better friday than he's had in a very long time is that why the
01:20:09red
01:20:09this is why i'm in the red today of course it is um yes well make sure you join us
