00:00Okay, let's go.
00:02Okay, let's go.
00:29Our hotel was actually next to—we could see the U.S. consulate in Dubai from our window.
00:35And for three days, I'm looking at it, I'm like, oh, okay, it's right there, that's kind of cool.
00:39We ended up actually checking out that morning, and then that same night, actually, there was a drone attack on
00:44it.
00:45So, luckily—
00:46On your hotel?
00:47No, not on our hotel, the consulate.
00:49So you said luckily what?
00:50We weren't there, so I was like, okay, but, you know, seeing it for a couple days, I was like,
00:54oh, yeah.
00:56What was it like seeing that?
00:57Just scary, just because, like, they send an alert on your phone saying missiles, like, hide, like, be away from
01:05windows and things like that.
01:05So it's kind of scary, because we've never experienced something like that, but, yeah.
01:10Tell me about your journey, about how you actually got out.
01:13Can you tell me about your journey, about how you actually got out?
01:15I mean, I'm just checking flights every day.
01:18We rebooked—United completely canceled our flight, obviously, like, they're not flying in, so they can't get out.
01:23And then I booked Emirates, and even Emirates, like, every day was chaos.
01:28It's canceled every day.
01:29I see flights going to, like, Europe and elsewhere, so we're like, should we fly to Europe?
01:35Should we fly, like, to India or anywhere else in the world and then come back?
01:38But even those are, like, crazy expensive.
01:41I can't, you know, so.
01:42You were there on vacation or—
01:45Vacation.
01:45It was a layover.
01:47It was like a stopover.
01:48We were there for two days, just visiting on the way back from India, and then we got stuck there.
01:52In Dubai?
01:53My wife, me, and my child.
01:56I feel like it was a stressful situation just not knowing, you know, when we can come back,
02:01especially when we were there for a small transit, so that was really difficult.
02:04But we were able to get back, and now we feel really good to be back home.
02:08Even in the rain and the snow, it feels good to be back.
02:11It's scary the first day, like, really, because, like, the alarms went off on our phone, like, the emergency broadcast.
02:17So we're like, oh, what's happening at, like, 1 a.m.?
02:21And then you hear noises in the background, like, every day.
02:23But by the—like, what, the last two days?
02:26During the day, everything was normal there, right?
02:29Like, I feel like it's—things online are showing things to be scary, but it was pretty normal.
02:34Like, during the day, people are walking outside, like, having dinner and all that stuff.
02:38Did you feel that our government, you're an American, should have given Americans some notice?
02:44I wish they did.
02:46I wouldn't have gone, right?
02:47I would have just, you know, canceled the trip or, like, came straight home earlier, right?
02:51So I wish there was something like that.
03:19It's not usual to have missiles intercepted above your head, but it was—honestly, it was not bad.
03:25We were in the marina, so a lot of stuff was going down to Abu Dhabi, and so we saw
03:29a lot of missiles coming across Dubai going there,
03:32but they were being intercepted.
03:34How difficult was it to get a flight out of there?
03:36Impossible.
03:37Yeah, they were all—especially coming to here, you had to hop somewhere else.
03:40Do you feel like our government should have warned Americans or given you a little—
03:44It would have been nice if you'd have held off two days.
03:46I could have taken my original flight back, of course, but, I mean, it's tough to do communication.
03:50I know what their tactic was.
03:52I know there was a meeting.
03:53They wanted to make sure they hit it.
03:55You can't give that type of warning out if you want to have that attack, so.
03:58But I'm just grateful that, you know, we're live.
04:00Luckily, it wasn't too bad in Dubai, but I'm sure some of the other places were horrible.
04:11I think we were the starters of this one.
04:15We got there on the 28th.
04:16We had 24 hours to stop, and then we were trying to get out March 1st, get canceled.
04:21March 4th, get canceled.
04:235th, get canceled.
04:246th, get canceled.
04:24And then we've heard about the charter flights, because commercial flights aren't running.
04:29So, we actually had to run our place through the first line, because Emirates was trying to avoid crowds in
04:38the airport.
04:39The only way to get you in is through a reservation.
04:48I'm just thankful to be home.
04:51Thank you to the UAE for keeping my husband and I safe.
04:54We were there for a birthday trip.
04:56I feel that they did a lot more for us to keep us safe than anything else, and that's where
05:00I'll leave it.
05:01A lot of what you guys are seeing on the media is 100% very much exaggerated.
05:07I think it was more about the uncertainty of when you're coming back, because, again, the city felt safe.
05:13The King was walking on Dubai Mall by March 1st, 2nd.
05:17Restaurants were open, malls were open, but it was more about every day rescheduling your flight at about 2, 3
05:24p.m.,
05:24because it got canceled again, and that was about it.
05:28We felt safe, we just felt uncertain when we were coming back.
06:24We just didn't let you know that we were offering a tour, but it was about Symus over the train.
06:34The
06:35Let's do this.
06:47Oh, yeah!
