00:00He's Chris Rose. Hi, Chris. How are you?
00:03Did you see our number one prospect go deep in the World Baseball Classic over in Japan?
00:08Dude, I am pumped. Absolutely pumped about that. Did the ball land yet? Did we know?
00:13Yeah, he turned on it pretty good.
00:15I had a couple really good at-bats last night. It was good.
00:19He's going to be here pretty soon.
00:21By the way, Tom Withers is in today for just so you know.
00:24How you doing, buddy?
00:26Do you get excited for the World Baseball?
00:28I love it.
00:30I absolutely love it.
00:31I love it.
00:32It's great.
00:33It's great on all of us.
00:34Yeah, there's some limitations because as much as these teams want to win,
00:39they have to adhere to the fact that they are serving 30 teams as well.
00:45There are pitching limitations.
00:48There are playing limits.
00:50I mean, not steadfast in terms of position players,
00:54but you're trying to get guys at-bats and get them ready for the season as well
00:57over the next couple of weeks.
00:59So there's a lot of that so that when you say, okay, well, in a regular playoff game,
01:04so-and-so wouldn't be hitting for that guy.
01:06You know, we're not pinch hitting for Kyle Schwarber, are we?
01:10But there are guys that are going to have to get at-bats, and that's how it goes.
01:13But I love seeing things in different places.
01:17I love watching games over in Japan.
01:20I love it that they're going to be going on in the Dominican Republic.
01:24That's awesome because the way they appreciate baseball is very different than how we grew up.
01:30No doubt.
01:31It's the energy, man.
01:33It's the energy and the fact that, like, the old-school rules.
01:37I mean, Bazzana went crazy after he hit that.
01:39I love that.
01:40I love every second of the fact that it's not that he's showing up to pitchers.
01:44It's that he's enjoying the fact that he just did a home run for his country.
01:47You know?
01:47I love it.
01:49In fact, I will go as far as saying that I think if you ask certain guys from other countries
01:55that play Major League Baseball, would you rather win the World Baseball Classic
02:02or where you're from, or would you rather win a World Series?
02:05It's not as easy an answer as some people think it would.
02:09That's interesting.
02:10I love it, though.
02:11Yeah, that's cool.
02:11I love it.
02:12Hey, I'm sure you're keeping a close eye on the Gardos.
02:15What are your thoughts on what you've seen, heard, felt this spring?
02:24I mean, I'm excited about the young guys.
02:27You know, listen, there's no organization you would rather be a part of.
02:31And the Cleveland Guardians, if you're a young player, you know they're not going to go spend
02:36some money on some maybe decent veteran.
02:39They're going to develop you.
02:40Right, yeah.
02:41You're going to get your crack at it.
02:44So, you know, with that being said, I'm excited.
02:47You know, we want DeLauder to stay in one piece.
02:51You know, some of these other guys, like we feel like we're going to be counting the days
02:55until Bazzana's a major leaguer.
02:59And some of the younger guys who have had their chances, or just starting to get their chances,
03:05whether that's a George Valera, you know, at some point, hopefully a Brito gets his chance.
03:13So, that part is fun.
03:15The pitching staff, I still think, is pretty good.
03:19And with all that being said, I don't think we finish higher than third in the division.
03:23But who knows?
03:24I haven't picked them to win it in a while, and they always do.
03:29All right, let's switch gears here, because we've got free agency starting next week.
03:33Just your thoughts on what the Browns might do, what you want them to do, and where are we going
03:38with this thing?
03:38They will do.
03:40Well, so what has been the response to the Titus Howard deal?
03:44Nice move.
03:45Nice.
03:46Yeah, very positive.
03:48Fills a hole, so to speak, right?
03:50I mean, got to find somebody for that spot.
03:53They need to replace that offensive line.
03:55So, are you going to do it with two rookies in the first round?
03:58I don't know if you're going to do it there, but I thought they got themselves a piece, and they
04:02can move forward, and it seems like they have a direction and a plan.
04:05A proven commodity, yeah.
04:07Yeah, I think that is all fair.
04:09And, you know, he's probably a better guard than he is right tackle, but I can't imagine that they paid
04:16him that amount of money to kick inside, although it's possible.
04:19It's possible.
04:20And I think that that's going to be kind of the idea between next week's free agency frenzy and then
04:27eventually the draft, right?
04:29As you see these mocks, and we all surf them, we all want to find them, we all want to
04:34see what people are saying, and more times than not, we're seeing a lineman at six and a receiver at
04:4024.
04:41And I think that's perfectly sensible.
04:45I do want to throw this out there that I think the Sonny Stiles performance might have changed the way
04:54that the Browns go about the sixth pick.
04:56And the reason I say it is not because we're going to go take Sonny Stiles if he's there at
05:00six, but rather I think that if you were to say how many of the top ten players available,
05:10just in terms, I'm not talking about trying to fill needs, I'm just talking about the best players, how many
05:16are defense?
05:18You wouldn't shock me if it's seven or eight, to be honest with you.
05:22And so that number at six, if there's somebody there, it's possible the Browns could trade out of that spot.
05:29I'm just throwing it out there.
05:30I totally agree with you, Chris.
05:32I think that's exactly what they're going to do.
05:34They've got the assets, and you're right.
05:36And by the way, the Sonny Stiles performance in Indianapolis last week has become legendary in a week.
05:44Yeah, because what it is for the Combine, and we all know exactly what it is, it's not real football.
05:51But man, if you're already a good football player, and then you show that, it will make teams rethink things
06:01a little bit.
06:02Like, we can't take an off-ball linebacker at five if we're the Giants.
06:06Can we?
06:07Well, maybe we will.
06:09You know, maybe we will.
06:10Where does that leave Caleb Downs in this whole situation?
06:14Do the Dallas Cowboys really think they can wait until 12 in order to get one of these studs?
06:20Because maybe it felt like that ten days ago, but maybe it doesn't right now.
06:24So, it's just, there's a lot of stuff.
06:28I think Browns fans, when we get to late April, will have to be ready for virtually anything.
06:37And I think that makes it fun and a little crazy.
06:42All right, my friend.
06:43Kyler Murray, any interest?
06:46Sure, I'd have interest in him.
06:48I don't know if you'd have interest in the Browns.
06:50I mean, really, the best fit and the team that needs him the most makes the most sense, and that's
06:56Minnesota.
06:57I mean, why wouldn't he go there based on the coaching staff, based on the fact that you've got a
07:05stud receiver,
07:07based on the fact that you are going to play more than half your games in a dome,
07:12including, you know, more than half of four out of your six divisional games when you're in a nasty weather
07:21division,
07:23all that stuff makes sense for him.
07:26And I don't know.
07:29It's just, to me, I would be semi-shocked if that's not where he ends up.
07:36I'm with you.
07:38As Andy asked you before, Chris, what is your hope with the quarterback situation here?
07:43What do you think is the best-case scenario heading into this season,
07:49whether it's the competition between Watson and Shadour or what have you?
07:53What would you like to see happen?
07:57So, I want to thank you, the clip department of your station, to not throw in the question last week,
08:05which was, who do you think will be the starter?
08:08Not was, who do you think should be the starter, which are two different things.
08:13Yeah, they sure are.
08:14I get the business that we're in, so I'm happy to add your clicks.
08:19And my continued, hey, you're a moron timeline.
08:23Get in line on that, people.
08:25You worked with Tom Arnold, man.
08:27How bad can you, I mean, let's be honest.
08:29You get it.
08:30Let's bring up stuff that happened 20 years ago.
08:33Way to stay current.
08:34Well, it doesn't matter.
08:36So, it made you the legend that you are, or back in your days at CNN.
08:39You want me to go back to that?
08:41No, let's answer the question, which is,
08:44I still think that Deshaun Watson would be the starter on day one.
08:50I think I would like to see Shadour get a crack at it,
08:54but I'm not so sure that the 2027 quarterback is on our roster right now.
09:00I just, if you're asking me how I feel, that's how I feel at this point.
09:06Doesn't mean I'm rooting against people.
09:08Doesn't mean I hate people.
09:11All of that stuff.
09:12You're asking me what I think will happen.
09:15And that's what I think is going to happen.
09:17And I think that Deshaun might get a, all I can tell you is this.
09:21A lot of people who try to connect dots in Indianapolis and speak to people
09:28seem to think that that is going to be a real possibility,
09:33that it will circle back to the guy we traded six picks for
09:38and paid $230 million for.
09:42All right, I got to ask you one more question before we let you go here,
09:44my friend.
09:45You're Redhawks, one game away from the perfect season.
09:49Good news for you.
09:50Jay Billis was on with us earlier in the hour, and he said they're in.
09:54I didn't know that Chris Rose is a Redhawk.
09:55Oh, he's a Redhawk.
09:56Well, you're the other version, right?
09:59Yes.
10:00I was a previous nickname.
10:02I got you.
10:02I got you.
10:04Yeah.
10:05Well, I mean.
10:05You've got some skin in the game is what you're saying.
10:08They should be in.
10:10I mean, let's be honest.
10:13I get it that a Mid-American Conference team does not carry the weight
10:17of a Big Ten team or an SEC team.
10:20I'm not here to think otherwise.
10:23But do you really give a crap about watching that?
10:26Who is the 10th best team in each of those conferences?
10:29Like, it just doesn't make sense.
10:31Whereas this has been such a good story, and it's now kind of caught fire
10:37that I think people who haven't watched Miami, other than a 45-second highlight
10:42on social media, are curious to watch them against a decent team.
10:49Like, let's go see it.
10:52So I think they would actually bring more to the tournament than the 10th best team
10:57from a power conference.
10:59For each, Chris.
11:00I agree.
11:01Yeah.
11:01I think even if you don't, even if the people who sit in that room,
11:05and I have no idea what they think about, because some of their decision-making
11:09has been whatever over the years, I'll try and be kind, that, you know,
11:16they would want them in the tournament.
11:19They would want them in the tournament on top of deserving to be in the tournament.
11:24Chris, I'm with you.
11:25Let's get two teams in there for the Mid-American Conference, too.
11:28How's that sound?
11:29I'm always good.
11:30How about just the U.S.?
11:31That's a good squad.
11:32Yeah.
11:32And by the way, all my OU friends are going to be ripping on me.
11:36Oh, boy.
11:37If that happens this weekend.
11:39You are good, my friend.
11:40Chris, thank you.
11:41We always appreciate your time.
11:42Thank you for being a part of the show, and we'll talk to you maybe next week.
11:44How's that sound?
11:46Adios, guys.
11:47Thanks, Chris.
11:48We'll talk to you later.
11:49Peace.
