00:02The Acoustic Engineers at Rolls Royce have become experts in serenity.
00:09And rightly so.
00:10Our Ghost clients are entrepreneurs who operate in complicated business worlds.
00:16So, when they experience their Ghost, we want them to feel calm and relaxed.
00:23Get ready for NewGhost.
00:25We took what we had already nortene من the previous model
00:28and applied even more technology and scientific theory
00:32to create what we call the Fourmuleeろう for Serenity.
00:37The first element is the Rolls Royce space frame architecture.
00:41It is constructed from aluminium
00:44which has a higher acoustic impedance compared to steel.
00:47The shapes it is made up of are complex forms,
00:50not flat resonant surfaces
00:52and many areas such as the bulkhead and floor are double-skinned to insulate the cabin.
00:58When it's paired with our nearly silent V12, we have the best possible soundstage right out of the box.
01:05Next is damping unwanted noise.
01:08We use over 100kg of sound-absorbing materials throughout the car.
01:13Doors, roof, bulkhead panels, even between the double-glazed windows and on the inside of the tyres.
01:20Following that, we get into the slightly obsessive detail.
01:24We interrogate what we call hidden inputs, or in simple terms,
01:29components that others simply wouldn't take the time to investigate for their acoustic properties.
01:34We examine every single component to see if it's creating even imperceptible sound waves,
01:41and we found that many surprising items did.
01:45We found that the inside of the air conditioning ducting
01:48caused the air entering the car to make an unacceptable level of noise.
01:53So we smoothed it out.
01:55We also tweaked the diameter of the prop shaft
01:58and increased its rigidity to improve on acoustics.
02:02Lots of small changes.
02:04One big difference.
02:06The final element is harmonising the car.
02:11During our initial testing, we discovered that taking all the noise away was disorientating.
02:17So, we created a whisper, a soft undertone that you experience as a single, subtle note.
02:25The seat frames, for example, resonated to excitations from the body in our early prototypes,
02:31so we developed damping units that brought every noise together into that single note.
02:37Also, the large boot produced a low-frequency noise that you couldn't so much hear, but feel at motorway speeds.
02:45So we built ports underneath the rear parcel shelf that allowed the sound waves to escape
02:51and better harmonise the acoustics.
02:54Our formula for serenity is extremely complex,
02:58but as our clients tell us,
03:01nothing worth having, and that includes a Rolls-Royce, comes easy.
03:05We'll see you next time.
