02:01So, a little bit of a different winter than other winters.
02:10Tom?
02:11Yes, are you positive about the changes in the parkour for Saturday?
02:16I mean, there's less gravel in it.
02:18I guess it's gone from 50 to 30k in the women's race.
02:28Sure, I don't think the last gravel will make it easier.
02:35Yeah, it's of course not a big change in the final, so the part will go fast and then, yeah,
02:43until you reach the final loop, we'll do the same.
02:51And, yeah, you will always see that anyway, the race will get in the legs and in the final, the
02:56best riders will end up in front.
03:01Benoît?
03:02Benoît?
03:03Yeah, hi, hi, Marianne.
03:04Well, can you develop a little bit about your relationship with the Strade Bianche?
03:10Because it's a race you've already done six times, almost always in the top ten.
03:14So, what do you like about this race?
03:17Or what don't you like about this race?
03:19Well, I think if you look at the parkour and if you look at, of course, it's only a short
03:25history, but if you look at the names that are on the list of honour and if you look at
03:34also the field that is starting now, that everybody is, yeah, is aiming to do well in Strade Bianche.
03:41Of course, if you only look at the images from the past, the beautiful pictures, the white roads, the dusty
03:55parts, the finish in Siena, yeah, only to ride here.
04:03We did a raccoon today. Yeah, it's just your heartbeat goes a few beats faster only from riding around here.
04:14But yeah, it's hard. So, in the end, it's also about positioning. You need a whole team to be in
04:24a good position, to be in control, and then you still need Alex to be there in the final.
04:30So, yeah, I think the race has everything.
04:36Just to follow up quickly, because you started talking about the history of the race.
04:40How do you rate the importance of Strade Bianche in the women's calendar?
04:47Yeah, of course, this is different for every rider, but yeah, I would rate it definitely with the biggest races
04:56there are.
05:00Kirsten?
05:02Yeah, hi, Mariana. I have a question about your, well, last year you sort of, I guess there was a
05:09bit of a reunited with Pauline Fair and Provot as a road teammate.
05:14And he worked really, really nicely together, I think, throughout the Spring Classics season.
05:18A lot of success between the both of you.
05:21Now that you're coming into the second season racing together, and I'm assuming you have a similar Spring Classics program,
05:30how can we, what can we expect from the two of you in the races?
05:33Will we see a kind of another step forward and a progression with the way you two race together at
05:40the Strade Bianche and maybe some of the other Classics later on?
05:45Well, yeah, we knew each other before last year already.
05:50But yeah, I was really happy to be back again and together in the team.
05:58And of course, we, yeah, we do some races together and I hope we can complement each other.
06:05And yeah, as we try and do with the whole team that everybody plays their role.
06:10And I also think we have some of the same characteristics, but also different.
06:16So we, yeah, we try and get the best out of each other and help each other in the best
06:23way.
06:25Thank you.
06:26I do have a separate question, actually, outside of Strade Bianche.
06:31It's more about the UCI having consultations with teams across the board, teams, organizers or stakeholders in cycling at the
06:38moment.
06:39Things about, you know, finances and fan engagement and the calendar, safety.
06:45From your perspective, what would you think are kind of the bigger things that need to be discussed in terms
06:52of women's racing on those questionnaires and consultations that are happening?
06:57Well, this is a really broad question.
07:03Yeah.
07:06Of course, there is many things to talk about, but I think what has already been said is that the
07:12growth of women's cycling does grow the world tour really fast.
07:16But the layer in between or the layer below the world tour is the thing where we all should think
07:30about and put energy in.
07:32Because otherwise, a step from youth or development will be a really, really big step to the world tour.
07:38So I think there is a, yeah, there is definitely, yeah, needs to, needs to be taught about from all
07:48the stakeholders.
07:49Okay.
07:50Have you, have you been able to give your input?
07:53Like, have you received a questionnaire?
07:54Has your team circulated one around?
07:56Or have you been able to input on, on these topics?
08:02Well, there's, I think there is different, uh, platforms for that, but, um, yeah, it's, yeah, we, we, we are,
08:11we are able to talk about it, but sometimes it's the question if it, uh, yeah, if it reaches the,
08:17the right persons, of course.
08:21Thank you.
08:22All right.
08:23Uh, Luke?
08:25Hello, Marianne.
08:26Um, you and Pauline are two very experienced riders on, on road, of course, but also in cyclocross gravel.
08:33How is this helping you in ahead of a race like the Strade Bianche?
08:37Do you discuss together the choices for tires or supplying, et cetera?
08:44Um, actually, uh, the team, uh, behind the team is, uh, working a lot on this and we have, uh,
08:54luckily we have some experience over the last year.
08:56So, um, this is not some, yeah, this, of course we talk about this as riders, uh, but this is
09:03also something that, uh, that the staff is talking and is, is thinking about.
09:08And, uh, um, yeah, like I said, we have, uh, we, luckily we have some experience and you take that
09:14from, uh, from all the other years into this year.
09:17Um, and I think, uh, a bit of background in off-road helps, but for Strade Bianche, it's also just
09:26a very hard race with a lot of climbing.
09:28Um, so yeah, uh, it's, it's not only about, uh, material, but we know we, uh, yeah, we have the,
09:39yeah, the, the best setup for, uh, for this race.
09:45Julien?
09:48Hello, Marianne.
09:49I would like to ask you two questions about the monuments in cycling.
09:54For the men, it has always been five monuments, but it's a different story for, for women cycling, of course.
10:01Now there is four monuments, but during the first part of your career, there was only the door of Flanders,
10:07uh, in the calendars.
10:08So I was wondering back in the time, what did you consider to be the monuments of women cycling?
10:14Assuming that the, this expression made sense at this time.
10:18And my second question is how has evolved, uh, your view about the concept of monument with the introduction of
10:26Yerge, Roubaix, and now Saint-Rémo?
10:29Oh, um, yeah, well, there were, we had a, we had a, a broad calendar with, uh, a lot of
10:38races outside of the men's calendar, uh, in the past.
10:41And there were also beautiful races.
10:43So I think, uh, we didn't think that much of a monument, uh, although Flanders was always a, one of
10:52the biggest of the calendar.
10:52Next to that also Flash Wallon was, uh, was one of the early, uh, races that was on for us.
11:00So, um, yeah, those two, uh, yeah, we're, we're definitely the, the bigger races of the spring, but yeah, like
11:08I said, we all, we, uh, there's, there was already Trofeo Binda, Ronde van Rente.
11:13Uh, we, we, we had some, uh, some great races.
11:16So, and I, uh, we didn't really think about, or I, if I speak for myself, didn't really think about
11:22monuments, um, but it's great.
11:25Obviously then, uh, with the addition of, uh, so many beautiful races in the, in the calendar, we, we now
11:32have this, uh, broader calendar.
11:35And we also have, uh, have the other monuments where still one is missing though, but, uh, yeah, time, time
11:42will tell.
11:44And, and do you see now there is just four monuments or can we, would you add more races?
11:51Do you consider Stradibianque as a monument or any other race?
11:56How many monuments do you see now in women's cycling?
11:59What's the number?
12:02Yeah, it's just, uh, what you, what you call a monument.
12:06I think, uh, if I, uh, I would look, if I look at the impact of the race and if
12:12the fan engagement, I think, uh, Stradibianque is one of the,
12:29um, one of the harder races, uh, harder, harder one day races of the season with a lot of climbing.
12:35I, I think we, we all look forward to another clash between Pauline and Amy Vollering.
12:40You, you know, both women very well.
12:43Um, how do you, uh, yeah.
12:45How do you look forward to, to this race and to, to other clashes between them?
12:49Can, can they become like big rivals in, um, in the harder races and in, in the stage races, uh,
12:56this year?
12:58Yeah, well, I think they're, uh, I mean, they may already showed in the race and I also know from
13:05Pauline, they're, uh, they're both in a, in a really good shape.
13:09It's not only about the two of them though.
13:11Uh, there is of course, uh, more riders really ready for this.
13:15Um, if I just only name one, then it's Elisa Longoborghini who is in their, uh, home country.
13:21So she, uh, definitely wants to do well in, in Strada Bianca as well.
13:25Um, but yeah, I think, uh, yeah, the level is really high and, uh, we're going to see some, some
13:32real good racing.
13:34And if you, and if you compare Pauline and, and Damien with each other, um, what are their differences and
13:41what are their similarities?
13:45Well, uh, well, uh, that's a good question.
13:51Uh, I think, um, yeah, similarities that they, they're physically strong, mentally strong.
14:01Uh, they know what to do.
14:04Um, I also think they know each other's strengths.
14:07Uh, they also know each other's weaknesses and, uh, that's where we're going to see, uh, some, yeah, some really
14:16good battles.
14:16And, um, yeah, of course, uh, as, uh, as, as being a Visma Lisa bike, uh, I'll be on one
14:26side, but, uh, yeah, anyways, good racing is always good for the sport.
14:33Sebastian.
14:37Um, you said you didn't have the, uh, best perfect winter.
14:42Does that give you some question marks, especially since it's the first race of the season?
14:49That doesn't really, the question marks doesn't really depend on the winter.
14:53Uh, it's always just, uh, yeah, you get a little, uh, I think good nerves because, uh, yeah, that's what
15:01you need also for racing.
15:03Uh, you know, you need to be focused and, um, yeah, a little bit of, uh, yeah, well, let's say,
15:13how do we say nerves or, uh, a little bit of, uh, doubt is always, uh, good to be, to
15:19be ready.
15:20Um, so yes, uh, it's, it's there, but I think that's, uh, that's just part of, uh, what we do.
15:28Um, and, um, yeah, I look forward to it.
15:32Benoit?
15:34Um, yeah, well, you, you're going to be racing, like, all sorts of classics from, uh, from Strade Bianche until,
15:42uh, Armstead Gold Race.
15:43Um, is there a specific moment where, where you aim to, to pick with, uh, with all of these, uh,
15:50classics?
15:50So, yeah, um, yeah, yeah, the, definitely, these are different races from Strade Bianche to Milan San Remo to Paris
16:04-Roubaix, Flanders and, uh, Amstel.
16:06Um, yeah, uh, we just try to keep a really good base over the, over this period.
16:20Um, as is, is my first, uh, yeah, uh, of course we'll have to see how this goes.
16:28Um, but, um, yeah, we just try, uh, try to get the best over this, uh, this period and, uh,
16:34yeah, let's see what it brings.
16:36And, uh, did you, did you watch the, the Belgian, the Belgian opener last weekend?
16:42And what did you make, uh, or it's generally, what the, what did you think of the action?
16:47What, what did they tell you about the challenges that expect you?
16:52That a lot of girls are definitely ready for, uh, for some, uh, some good races and, uh, racing and
16:59that, uh, the level is high, um, that the, the bunch is, uh, has the same nerves, nerves as, uh,
17:06uh, as we all have, I think, so, uh, that you really need to be prepared and focused and in
17:11the right position.
17:13Um, and yeah, of course, uh, um, Lopet Newsblood is always, is also a different race than Strade, but, um,
17:22yeah, we see, we will see some of the same names definitely again.
17:26Hans?
17:29Yeah, Mariana, just, uh, returning a little bit to, uh, uh, to Strade Bianchi, uh, in the beginning, especially when
17:36the men started to race this race for the first time, there were some doubts, um, complaints that, that it
17:43shouldn't be fair on these kind of roads.
17:45And we know, of course, you like these kinds of roads racing, but how do you think about it on
17:50road racing?
17:51Because we have to gravel, uh, races, of course, but how do you, how do you think about, uh, these
17:56kinds of races?
17:57Are they fair in your opinion?
18:01Yes, uh, I think it is, it is fair.
18:04And, um, of course, uh, gravel, I mean, there's always things that can happen.
18:12Um, but I, I don't think that, uh, yeah, that the Strade Bianchi, uh, in any sense is, uh, for
18:22example, more dangerous or whatever.
18:25Um, and yes, I, I do like, uh, Strade Bianchi, and like, like I say, also in the bunch and
18:35also the fans, they probably, I mean, yeah, it's, it's just love this, uh, love this race.
18:41I, I only would not suggest to add gravel in every race.
18:46Um, I think it's, it's good that, uh, yeah, that there are some gravel races with, uh, with gravel included.
18:53Um, but, um, yeah, sometimes one single gravel section wouldn't add much for, for a race, but I think this
19:01one is definitely in addition to the calendar.
19:04And is it, is it different in a one day race, uh, if you do it in a, well, a
19:11week race like the Giro or the Tour de France?
19:13Is, is that different, uh, you think?
19:17Um, yeah, yeah, yeah, I think that's different, um, and then definitely you need to consider, uh, what, what kind,
19:25yeah, what kind of race you want to, you want to do or what kind of gravel that you want
19:29to add.
19:29But, um, in the end, uh, it's cycling and it's also, yeah, about the ability to raise different characteristics.
19:45Um, I, I saw a lot of videos last winter where, um, yeah, like big people from, from the world
19:54of cycling from, from now or from the past, uh, has been asked, uh, about who their goats are, are
20:01their, their greatest of all times.
20:02Um, and when it comes to women's cycling, they almost always say Marianne Vos.
20:09Did you, did you notice that as well?
20:12And what, what do you think about that?
20:16I, I didn't see a lot of videos, but it's an honor.
20:21And of course, people, uh, call me, call me like that.
20:25It's, uh, yeah, it's, it's difficult to make a reaction.
20:30And I just try and, uh, and do my best already for, uh, for a while.
20:35And, uh, I hope to continue to do so.
20:38Who's, who's your goat of women's cycling?
20:43That's a, that's a good question.
20:45We have a, we have a whole, well, as a Dutch, I'm now, I speak as a Dutch.
20:49We have a whole great, uh, a fantastic, uh, yeah, history in, in women's cycling.
20:57Um, so yeah.
21:00Oh, there's so many, so many names with, uh, Katie van Ooster, Tineke Votma, uh, Leontien van Morsel.
21:07Um, yeah, I would, uh, it would be hard to pick one because all these women have been, uh, paving
21:15our, uh, our, our way.
21:17So, um, and then I don't even talk about the foreigners.
21:21So, uh, it, it wouldn't be fair to say one.
21:24Thank you.
