00:00Late night host Jimmy Kimmel has reacted after Donald Trump announced he plans to attend the
00:04upcoming White House Correspondents' Dinner, scheduled for April 25th. Trump shared the
00:08news in a post on Truth Social, saying he had been invited by the White House Correspondents
00:12Association to take part in the long-running event. The annual dinner dates back more than
00:16a century, beginning during the presidency of Calvin Coolidge in 1924. In his message,
00:21Trump said he was pleased to accept the invitation and suggested the evening could become one of the
00:25most memorable versions of the event ever held. He also tied the gathering to celebrations
00:29surrounding the United States' upcoming 250th anniversary. The announcement quickly drew
00:34attention from Kimmel, who addressed the topic during a recent episode of his late-night program.
00:38Speaking to his audience, the host pointed out that the dinner traditionally features a comedian as
00:42the main entertainer. Kimmel noted that several well-known comedians have handled the role in the
00:46past, including Al Franken, Ray Romano, Seth Meyers, Jon Stewart, Conan O'Brien, and Wanda Sykes.
00:53He also reminded viewers that he himself served as host of the dinner back in 2012.
00:57This year, however, the event will not be led by a comedian. Instead, organizers have chosen author
01:02and mentalist Oz Perlman to headline the evening. During his show, Kimmel joked about the unusual
01:07choice and praised Perlman's performance skills while adding that the mentalist might even be able
01:11to predict what Trump is thinking. Even so, Kimmel suggested the decision to skip a comedian
01:15was disappointing. He went on to publicly offer himself as host, directly addressing Trump and
01:20encouraging him to reconsider the lineup. Kimmel joked that the pairing could attract strong television
01:24ratings and even proposed creating a special award just for the president. Despite the comedic pitch,
01:29the idea appears unlikely to move forward. Follow for more political updates. Don't forget to like
