00:00The last thing the American people want or need is another war in the Middle East.
00:06But if you listen to Secretary Pete Hegseth's press conference this morning, one thing is
00:12crystal clear, America is at war.
00:16In his own words, Hegseth said, quote, we are just getting started.
00:23You hear that, America?
00:24Pete Hegseth says another war in the Middle East is just getting started.
00:31He says more of our sons and daughters will be shipped off to fight in a foreign land.
00:36More of our taxpayer dollars will be wasted abroad instead of invested at home.
00:43Hegseth also said, quote, we are accelerating, not decelerating.
00:49Hegseth said more bombers and more fighters are arriving just today.
00:56What is Hegseth talking about?
00:59Are we putting boots on the ground?
01:03Are we depleting our strategic munition reserves?
01:07Is there a time limit or limit to our engagement in Iran?
01:11We have no clue, because Hegseth is more interested in sound bites than explanations.
01:19And Hegseth said, quote, death and destruction from the sky all day long, unquote.
01:26This is not how an intelligent, prudent, sober-minded military leader speaks.
01:31Just the contrast between the serious tone of General Cain, who spoke next to Hegseth, and that of Hegseth, who
01:41was almost gleeful about going to war, is stark.
01:49What Hegseth said this morning is embarrassing and childish.
01:55So to anyone around here who thinks we're not at war, listen to Hegseth's press conference.
02:06It's little more than microwaved cable news drivel.
02:11But what he is saying loud and clear is this.
02:15We're at war, and this administration is signaling more escalation ahead.
02:23This is insanity.
02:26Americans just spent the last two decades fighting and dying in the Middle East, and Pete Hegseth says, we're back
02:33for more.
02:34How many parents watched their kids ship off and fight and die in Iraq and Afghanistan?
02:42How many sleepless nights did families have over the last 20 years worry about their loved ones?
02:49How many headlines did we watch over the decades of troops getting shot down, of convoys being attacked, of wounded
02:55soldiers, returning home forever scarred by the horrors of war?
03:04How many billions of dollars were wasted?
03:07How many billions of dollars were wasted?
03:08How much anguish and suffering and grief did America endure?
03:14And now Pete Hegseth says he'd be happy that we're going to do it all over again.
03:21He says this new war is just getting started.
03:24This is madness, and we don't even know what the administration's plan is.
03:31I just sat yesterday with my Senate colleagues for an all-senators briefing, and let me show you how much
03:40clarity we got out of that briefing.
03:43Zero. Zero.
03:46Even after the briefing, we walked away with zero clarity about what Donald Trump's goal in Iran is.
03:53After my briefing this week, and Hegseth's press conference this morning, it is clear they are widening the war in
04:02Iran.
04:03And I fear now more than ever that we are going to put boots on the ground, and that's precisely
04:10what the American people fear.
04:14We still don't know how long we'll be there.
04:16We still don't know what Donald Trump is even trying to accomplish.
04:19This is not how you conduct foreign policy.
04:24This is not how you conduct defense policy.
04:28And the fault for the chaos is entirely with Donald Trump.
04:34Trump is manic.
04:37Whatever pops into his head, he says immediately.
04:39He picks one plan one day, then he picks the total opposite the other.
04:43He doesn't think it through.
04:44He doesn't check the facts.
04:48And nobody around him has the guts to stand up to him and tell him,
04:53Mr. President, you're wrong.
04:55He is surrounded by yes men.
04:58This is dangerous.
05:00Just yesterday, as Trump launches America into a war with Iran,
05:05he goes ahead and slams and critiques Zelensky and calls him in name the P.T. Barnum of Ukraine.
05:10This is insane.
05:13Donald Trump is manic.
05:15Blasting one of America's friends as they fight for survival
05:18and are beginning to make gains against Russian forces.
05:21Insane.
05:22And certainly not how you conduct foreign policy.
05:27Well, Mr. President, now this body, here in the Senate,
05:33we have a chance to say enough to Donald Trump's military insanity.
05:38Today, the Senate will vote to discharge a bipartisan resolution,
05:43led by Senators Cain, Schiff, Paul, and myself,
05:46to put a halt to military activity in Iran without congressional approval.
05:51The resolution is the Senate Republicans' chance to put pressure on Donald Trump's manic decision to drag us into war.
06:11Americans overwhelmingly oppose war with Iran.
06:15And Senate Republicans have a duty to stand up for Americans by forcing Donald Trump to reverse course.
06:23Today, every senator, every single one, will pick a side.
06:28Do you stand with the American people who are exhausted of forever wars in the Middle East?
06:33Or stand with Donald Trump and Pete Hegseth as they bumble us head first into another war?
06:40To my colleagues, if you're tired of wars in the Middle East, support our resolution.
06:48To my colleagues, if you don't want America to get dragged into another conflict that spirals out of our control,
06:55support our resolution.
06:57Take a stand.
06:58Do the right thing.
07:00Support this resolution.
