Gaming laptops are supposed to be portable, but ultrawide gaming usually isn’t. Lenovo’s Legion Pro Rollable concept is trying to fix that by literally expanding the display out to the sides, turning a normal gaming laptop into an ultrawide experience on demand.

This rollable screen concept is rated for up to 25,000 expansions, weighs under 3 kilograms (which is wild considering the tech inside) and promises a more cinematic, immersive gaming experience without carrying an external monitor. When you’re on the go, this is your ultrawide monitor.

In this video of Tom's Guide to CES, Jason breaks down how the Lenovo Legion Pro Rollable works, why a rollable display actually makes sense for gaming and whether this could be the future of portable high-end gaming laptops — or just a very cool concept.

Would you game on an ultrawide laptop like this?

00:00Right, if there's one thing that Lenovo is known for, it's introducing some pretty
00:05bonkers rollable display concepts at CES. And this arguably has to be one of
00:13the most mental. Now if you're like me and you do a lot of gaming, ultra-wide
00:19displays have become my go-to. But obviously in a gaming laptop you don't
00:24necessarily get that. Which is where the Lenovo Legion Pro rollable comes in, which
00:29can go from a 16 inch all the way up to a 24 inch 24x9 ultra-wide display. Perfect
00:37for all of that extra gameplay that you may have in your peripheral view. This
00:41is all done via some pretty impressive like doable hinging going on here to
00:45kind of like stretch the display to a full view. Which honestly is pretty
00:50mind-blowing. It's tested for up to 25,000 expansions and contractions so
00:57you're getting long-term durability out of this too. And it does all this while
01:01weighing under three kilograms. Yes, in laptop world that is still the weight of
01:08a small country. But that is the pretty much the normal weight of a gaming laptop.
01:14And when you look at it from a side-ons profile obviously the display bit is a
01:18bit thicker. But it's your standard chunky gaming laptop that you can kind of get
01:24with it. And of course it's a Legion Pro so you can max it out with an RTX 5090 GPU
01:29in
01:29there. Alongside an Intel Core 209 processor to really maximize the refresh
01:34rate of this display. Gaming becomes all the more cinematic with a much wider
01:38display like this. And let's say for example if you're trying to do some sim
01:44racing on the go and you've got your save put onto here. You've got the ultra-wide to
01:49be able to see cars passing you. Even though there's people sim racing online still
01:53don't have that peripheral vision. I see you person on iRacing. So as somebody who
01:58games frequently on the go with a laptop. I must say the opportunity to have
02:07something like this happen would be quite a significant breakthrough if this ever
02:13comes out of prototype. So I ask of you now Lenovo. Make this happen and we can be
02:21best friends. But I want to know what you think. Would you pick up a crazy display
02:28concept like the Lenovo Legion Pro Rollable to give you that ultra-wide
02:33cinematic gaming experience? Go ahead and let me know in the comments. And for more
02:38bonkers concepts from the likes of Lenovo subscribe to Tom's Guide. I've been
02:51watching your videos.
02:55So I'll see you next time.
