A freshwater baby crocodile spotted behind a Bunnings in a suburban Newcastle creek has been safely captured by reptile experts, with police now investigating how it ended up there.

00:23Handlers from the Australian Reptile Park returned on Sunday evening and secured the animal.
00:28So you've got to go about 2,000 kilometres north to even hit freshwater crocodile habitat.
