U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Monday declined to provide a timeline for the U.S.-Israeli war against Iran, saying President Donald Trump would determine how long the military campaign continues.
Hegseth said the operation would not become an “endless war,” but acknowledged it would not be over quickly. He said the objective is to destroy Iran’s missiles, naval forces and other security infrastructure.
His remarks came a day after Trump suggested strikes on Iran could continue for up to four weeks.

The Pentagon chief also confirmed that U.S. service members were killed when a tactical operations center was struck during the operation.

U.S. forces have intercepted hundreds of ballistic missiles targeting American troops and regional partners, officials said. The air campaign expanded on Monday with no clear end in sight. The U.S. military also said Kuwait’s air defenses mistakenly shot down three American F-15E fighter jets during an Iranian attack.
