00:00And so what is the U.S. strategy after all here, and what will Europe do?
00:04Well, let's bring in Geoffrey Sachs now, a public policy analyst and a former senior advisor to the United Nations.
00:11Mr. Sachs, thank you very much for being with us. Hello to you.
00:14And this is a major turning point in history, of course, the assassination of a head of state, a major
00:20head of state.
00:21What does this moment mean for Iran and the region and the world?
00:25What has the U.S. and Israel unleashed here?
00:29Well, the U.S. and Israel are terrorist states.
00:33They do not abide by international law.
00:37They rip up the U.N. charter, and they are proud and gleeful about it.
00:43It's, of course, extraordinarily dangerous.
00:45But what we can predict is violence, chaos and death, but not the success of the U.S.-Israel effort to
00:58achieve hegemony over West Asia.
01:01This is a strategy that is underway.
01:05Israel aims to dominate the Arab and Iranian region, that is, West Asia, militarily.
01:14The United States aims to dominate the world militarily in Latin America.
01:20It kidnapped a president a couple of weeks ago.
01:23It is engaged in a regime change operation in Cuba.
01:28It is engaged in war in West Asia.
01:32So the U.S. has a global agenda, and Israel has a regional agenda, but they will not succeed.
01:39This is terrorism.
01:41It's a violation of international standards, and there is no path to success for Israel and the United States.
01:49Well, in terms of success or lack thereof, U.S. military entanglements in the Middle East, of course, not ending
01:55well.
01:55Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya.
01:57Is this different, though, in Iran?
01:59Is it more serious?
02:00And how does it end?
02:01What is the end here for the U.S.?
02:04There is no end game, and none of the earlier interventions that you mentioned, which include overthrowing the government of
02:15Libya in 2011,
02:17unleashing 15 years of war, overthrowing the government of Sudan, breaking Sudan in two, unleashing two civil wars,
02:28destabilizing Somalia, committing genocide in Gaza.
02:34Destabilizing and overthrowing the government of Syria, invading Iraq, and attacking Iran.
02:42These are premeditated parts of a strategy that goes back 30 years for Israel to achieve military hegemony on behalf
02:51of the United States.
02:53But it doesn't work.
02:55It just leads to a bloodbath.
02:57And this is a continuation of that.
03:00There is no path to success.
03:02Iran is a country of 100 million people.
03:05The United States is not even, thank goodness, but not even talking about putting so-called boots on the ground.
03:12So there is no way to accomplish anything meaningful here.
03:18Trump himself is a psychologically unstable non-strategist.
03:25He is very short-term in his thinking.
03:28He's not smart.
03:29But I would say that it goes beyond Trump.
03:32This is a U.S. CIA Mossad operation, but without an end game.
03:39President Trump is saying that the goal, though, is to eliminate imminent threats and nuclear capability in Iran.
03:44Israel seems very focused on the ballistic missile program that's menaced its territories.
03:50Can those be accomplished, though?
03:51And will the Islamic system essentially survive this?
03:56Yes.
03:57Iran will survive this.
03:59It has been a power for 5,000 years.
04:04It's not going to be ended by two weeks of bombing by Israel and the United States.
04:12It's quite amazing for Israel to be accusing Iran of trying to get a nuclear weapon.
04:20It's claimed since 1996 that Iran was just about to get a nuclear weapon.
04:25This is pure propaganda, but also projection, because Israel, of course, is a nuclear power that has violated the nonproliferation
04:34treaty, never signed it, has no inspections, is completely deceitful and completely hypocritical.
04:41But when there was an agreement reached a decade ago where Iran said, yes, of course, we don't want a
04:50nuclear weapon,
04:51and we'll have the International Atomic Energy Agency inspect us rigorously, they abided by that.
04:58It was Donald Trump, under this CIA Mossad strategy, that ripped up that agreement in 2018.
05:08So this is all pretextual.
05:11The claims that are made are phony.
05:13The idea is to overthrow the Iranian government so that Israel has military dominance throughout the Middle East.
05:23Professor Sachs, as of very grateful for your input today.
05:26Many thanks indeed.
05:27Professor Jeffrey Sachs there, public policy analyst and a former senior advisor to the UN.
