00:00Good evening everyone. My name is Emily Blunt. Welcome to a new series of the Graham Norton show
00:29Hello. Lovely to see you. Hi. Hello. Welcome to the show and the new series. What's been happening while we've
00:40been away?
00:41Well, Donald Trump has been accused of sleeping with an adult actress, Stormy Daniels. I mean, a lot of actresses
00:47are adults, but I mean, she's really grown up.
00:50It's true. Everything's bigger in America. Storm in a D cup.
00:57Even I'm impressed. Like, you know, is that something? Stormy Daniels, not to be confused with the other woman in
01:04his life, Frosty Melania.
01:09What else has been happening? Well, a lot of people were affected by the so-called beast from the east.
01:14Now, Vladimir, if you're trying not to look evil, that is an unfortunate pose.
01:26And of course, there is this ongoing diplomatic row over the source of the Salisbury nerve agent.
01:31But the good news is, it's not going to affect the World Cup in Russia.
01:34In fact, here's a picture of the England squad getting ready to travel.
01:37Yeah.
01:40Hey, let's get some guests off!
01:43From the West End to the busy heights of Hollywood, this homegirl star is back as Spider-Man in the
01:49new Marvel blockbuster Avengers Infinity War.
01:52Please welcome Tom Holland!
01:54That is Tom Holland.
01:57Hello, Tom Holland.
01:58Lovely to see you.
02:00Welcome back.
02:00Have a seat.
02:01No!
02:03She's the Aussie goddess of pop.
02:05We've sold over 80 million records worldwide.
02:08Back with the sensational new album, Golden, it is the fabulous Kylie Minogue!
02:15Hello!
02:16Hi!
02:17Lovely to see you.
02:19Coming in, Tom.
02:20Kylie, Kylie, Tom.
02:21This actor shot the fame as Jim Halpert in the American version of The Office.
02:26Now he's terrifying audiences with this year's must-see horror, A Quiet Place.
02:30Please welcome, for the first time, John Krasinski!
02:34That is John Krasinski!
02:36Hey!
02:37Hey!
02:37Hey!
02:40And starring alongside John is the Golden Globe-winning British star of The Devil Wears Prada,
02:44Sicario, Into the Woods and The Girl on a Train.
02:47Always a pleasure to welcome back, Emily Blunt!
02:49Oh!
02:50Oh!
02:52Shiny!
02:53Shiny!
02:54Hello!
02:55Hi!
02:57Hi!
02:58Hi!
03:03Lovely to see you all.
03:04You all well.
03:05Welcome to the show.
03:07Very nice.
03:07Yes.
03:08And now this is unusual, ladies and gentlemen.
03:10We don't often have this.
03:11On the couch tonight, a celebrity couple.
03:14Yes!
03:15Who is it?
03:16We wanted to make them alive!
03:17Yes!
03:18Yes!
03:19It sparks flu backstage.
03:22It's incredible.
03:23And it was John and Emily.
03:24Not just a couple.
03:24I'm married.
03:26And are you like Brangelina or, you know, Bennifer or Jedward?
03:31No, our name is Crunt.
03:34We've decided.
03:36I see how you got there.
03:38I'm not sure why.
03:39It was Bluntinsky.
03:41Yeah.
03:41It just seemed, you know, long-winded so Crunt felt efficient and sort of...
03:46Do you use Crunt a lot?
03:49Every restaurant.
03:51Is that your book?
03:52Is the people in the back available for Crunt?
03:53Yes.
03:55We sometimes send out Christmas cards like, Christmas with the Crunts, come and have a drink.
04:01That's going to go wrong, really.
04:03That's why I like it.
04:04Living on the edge.
04:05Talking of your names, Kylie, such a famous name, and you are Kylie.
04:11There's no...
04:11You are Kylie.
04:12But you've been to court.
04:14You are now definitely Kylie.
04:15Have you treated...
04:16I'm most definitely Kylie.
04:17I'm going to remain Kylie.
04:19Was there a question that you might have to change your name?
04:21No.
04:22But there's a very famous...
04:25Another Kylie.
04:29Only one Kylie, ladies and gentlemen.
04:30Only one Kylie.
04:32No, there was a settlement that came to an agreement just so that things are clear if it's a Kylie
04:38Jenner product or Kylie Minogue product.
04:40OK.
04:41And does Kylie Jenner, does she kind of own North America and you own the rest of the world?
04:46Kind of.
04:48Yeah.
04:48OK.
04:49That seems fair.
04:50Fair enough.
04:51I love it here.
04:52The feeling that Crunt might be.
04:54Yeah.
04:55You need to trademark Crunt.
04:57Yeah.
04:58The Crunt's perfume.
04:59Yeah.
05:02Smell like the Crunt.
05:05What is that aroma, Crunt?
05:08Wow.
05:10Keep going.
05:12Now, Tom Holland, Tom Holland, obviously, you know, your name, Tom Holland, clear as day.
05:17Yes.
05:17Who is Dave the Frog and why has Dave the Frog got something to do with you?
05:23Dave the Frog that's in my mouth.
05:25Well, this is what I hear.
05:26What is that story?
05:27Right.
05:29So we have to do red carpets all the time and take pictures and I find it very awkward when
05:33they're all shouting at you and stuff.
05:34And a fan of mine tweeted a picture of me saying, Tom Holland looks like he has a frog in
05:40his mouth when he's taking paparazzi pictures.
05:43And I thought it was hilarious.
05:44So I reposted the picture, which then went viral and everyone found it hilarious.
05:49But then weeks go by and I'd look at myself in the mirror and be like, maybe I do look
05:54like I have a frog in my mouth.
05:56This is the, I think this is the original tweet.
05:59This is you.
05:59Aww.
06:00I can see it.
06:01You do look like you've got something in your mouth.
06:03I think it's because I'm trying to go for the chiseled jaw kind of look.
06:07Oh, you're crunching.
06:07It's just not working.
06:08I think that's what that was.
06:10You're crunching.
06:12You're crunching.
06:14That's kind of how John and I do the record.
06:16Let's do the crunch.
06:18Alright, our first big film tonight.
06:20It's already been hailed as the horror movie of the year.
06:24Not just, other people have said that.
06:25A Quiet Place.
06:27Now, happily, it stars Emily Blunt and John Krasinski.
06:31This is great, we'll be able to talk about it.
06:32And not just that, directed and co-written by yourself, John.
06:39And congratulations to both of you for this.
06:40Thank you very much.
06:40Because when you see this film, it is such a great premise for a horror film.
06:46So explain it to the people.
06:48Oh, me?
06:49You want me to do it?
06:50You do it this time.
06:51Well, it was pitched to me...
06:53Just being clear.
06:54This time.
06:54This time.
06:55We pitch it to each other every night at dinner.
06:58No, this is a movie about a family that you meet who has to remain as quiet as possible.
07:04And you have to figure out why.
07:06And I'll give it away.
07:07No, they have to remain quiet because they are being hunted by creatures not from this planet that only hunt
07:14by an acute sense of sound.
07:16So if you make any sound, you'll be dead within 10 to 15 seconds.
07:19Which, honestly, it's terrible.
07:22Because the movie, you know, it becomes eerily quiet.
07:26Right.
07:26Now, is it true that you guys practice this at home?
07:29I mean, did we?
07:31I did.
07:32I did.
07:34I did.
07:34I did.
07:34By myself.
07:36I feel like this story became as if John and I are role-playing at home.
07:40Yeah.
07:40I was the creature.
07:42And...
07:44Yeah, exactly.
07:45Come on, make some sound.
07:47Yeah.
07:48Because it is.
07:56She...good.
07:56Yeah, it was funny.
07:57It's funny.
07:59How do you know, could you go to see this film?
08:01I'm beside myself already.
08:03Yeah.
08:03I could watch that on my own, though.
08:05No.
08:05No, no.
08:06Well, hopefully, no one will be watching it by themselves.
08:08It will do very well.
08:09It's home.
08:10It's home.
08:11It's home.
08:15Because, Tom, you wouldn't.
08:16You don't like these films.
08:18Sorry, guys.
08:19I'm not a fan of horror films.
08:20Support the film, Tom.
08:23I'm such a wuss when it comes to this kind of thing.
08:25I would be the worst horror movie director you could imagine.
08:28No.
08:28But that's weird, because, John, you didn't like these films.
08:31No, not at all.
08:32I think the technical term is a scaredy-cat.
08:35I never saw horror movies growing up.
08:37I was too terrified.
08:39Obviously, I'm a huge horror fan now.
08:41If you saw my iTunes list over the last year, you'd say, I think we have a problem.
08:46But it's phenomenal.
08:47I don't think my name is the one that you see and say, can't wait to see a horror movie
08:51from
08:51that guy.
08:52But the original script came to me, and it's actually an incredible story of family.
08:56And so it's, to me, you can't tell by looking at the poster.
08:59We can show that again.
09:01But it is a love letter to my kids.
09:02It's about what would you do as a parent?
09:05What extremes would you go to to protect your kids?
09:07And is this true that this film you originally weren't going to be in?
09:12Well, we had just had our second child, and I was about to do Mary Poppins.
09:16And so I was in a sort of general feeling of joy.
09:19I didn't know if I wanted to go towards the darkness of the pitch that he'd given me for
09:23this film.
09:23And then I, I'd mentioned a friend of mine too, John, when he pitched me.
09:27I said, oh, you should call so-and-so.
09:29And, um, and so he did.
09:30So-and-so is so good.
09:31Yeah.
09:33So good.
09:33So he did call so-and-so.
09:36And you didn't send her the script, admittedly.
09:38She wasn't sort of hired, but, um...
09:39So close.
09:40But so close.
09:41And I read the script and I was like, you need to call her and fire her.
09:47Are you still friends with her?
09:48We are.
09:49Until the movie comes out.
09:50And then she's like...
09:52And, John, for you, obviously lovely that Emily wants to be in the film.
09:56Absolutely, yeah.
09:56But as a director, is it then weird giving your life partner notes?
10:01It-it was weird because I was very nervous about it, to be honest.
10:03I think we both were.
10:04Before we started shooting, she said, are you nervous?
10:06And I said, I'm terrified.
10:07And she said, oh, good, me too.
10:09Um, I think it's one of those things where people think because we're both
10:12in the same business, we have the same experiences.
10:14But I've actually never been on set with her, seen how she worked.
10:17I'd heard she was a diva and I just...
10:20LAUGHTER
10:21Can't get Emily out of her trailer, stuff like that.
10:24It's like, ugh.
10:25And, um, no, but I think what it was is...
10:27And it sounds really sappy, but it's true.
10:30I think it's the greatest collaboration I've ever had in my career.
10:32I've never seen her work.
10:34And when you are actually in the room and she does what she does,
10:36it, honestly, it changes the air in the room.
10:38Everyone is just completely and totally stunned by what she does.
10:41Aw.
10:43Aw.
10:43Aw.
10:43Yeah.
10:46So this is what, I have to say, this is what...
10:50This is what I had to learn early on in our...
10:53Oh, that's true.
10:53...relationship, was that British people are notoriously terrible
10:56at taking compliments, would you agree?
10:58Just like...
10:59Uh...
10:59Like, it's kind of like...
11:00I always stop talking about the fact...
11:02Oh, that's...
11:03That's actually what she did.
11:04Before she met, I was like, I just want to get out of the way.
11:06I'm a huge fan of yours.
11:07And she went...
11:08I was like...
11:10Please, I...
11:11You weren't cool at all.
11:12There was none of that, actually, I don't know your work.
11:14You were a proper fan of it.
11:16Oh, I was full stalker status.
11:18Yeah.
11:19I was just like, hey, you want to go out on a date with me?
11:23No, tell the people, how many...
11:24Is this true?
11:25How many times have you seen Devil Wears Prada?
11:27I mean...
11:28Not 75.
11:29Give or take 72.
11:31LAUGHTER
11:32No, it's one of those things that, back in the day,
11:34us elderly people used to channel surf, and, um,
11:37no one does that anymore.
11:38Yeah, exactly.
11:40Like I said...
11:40So cruel.
11:42No, it's just one of those movies that whenever you're going
11:44through the channels, you just stop and you...
11:46I mean, look.
11:46Has anyone seen the film here?
11:48Probably.
11:49There's...
11:50Four people.
11:50Four people.
11:51There's a sort of montage sequence where Annie Hathaway's
11:54got numerous fabulous outfits that they go through,
11:57and John, one day I came home and he was watching it,
12:00and he was watching the montage bit and he goes,
12:04um...
12:04That's my favourite outfit.
12:10With the beanies.
12:12Well, I couldn't get Annie, and so I was like, oh!
12:14LAUGHTER
12:14LAUGHTER
12:18LAUGHTER
12:21Ooh!
12:23Now, talking of meeting famous people,
12:25Tom, you recently presented at the Oscars.
12:27I did, yes.
12:28And then afterwards, as if that wasn't enough,
12:31afterwards you met, well, one of the most famous people in the world,
12:34one of the most famous women in the world.
12:36I had one of the most embarrassing experiences with Madonna.
12:40LAUGHTER
12:41I was at the Oscars, I presented, it went well, you know,
12:44I went out afterwards to sort of celebrate and have a good time.
12:46I probably had one too many.
12:47And I was at this party, uh, with a couple of my friends,
12:51and, um, an old friend of mine who's a manager comes up to me
12:56and he's like, Tom, Tom, Tom, do you know Madonna?
13:00And I'm like, funnily enough, no.
13:03LAUGHTER
13:03So he goes, come with me, come with me, come with me.
13:05So he drags me across this nightclub and introduces me to Madonna.
13:09Now, the whole way on the way over there, I'm going,
13:11what do I say?
13:12Hello, I'm...
13:14I had no idea what to say.
13:16So I get up there and I go, hello.
13:20LAUGHTER
13:21That's all I've come up with.
13:22It's like, hi, um, Madonna, how you doing?
13:25I'm good, thank you, I'm well.
13:26And Jason can see me panicking and goes,
13:29Madonna, um, Tom is an incredible dancer.
13:33LAUGHTER
13:34Why?
13:34And I'm looking at him like, I'mma kill you.
13:37LAUGHTER
13:37And she goes, really?
13:39Well, that's something I'd love to see, show me.
13:43LAUGHTER
13:43So I'm thinking, I have two options, right?
13:45I can just faint, you know, just pass out,
13:48or I can take Madonna into the dance floor,
13:50dance with her and show her my moves and just have a great time.
13:54Sure.
13:54You know, me being an idiot, I went for option two.
13:58So I take her hand, I sort of drag her into the dance floor
14:01and as soon as I took her, I realised that this was a mistake.
14:04LAUGHTER
14:05It was a big mistake.
14:06Now, I used to be Billy Elliot and I used to do a lot of dancing,
14:09but that was all choreographed, you know?
14:11I didn't wing it.
14:12I didn't just go on stage and do a different show every night.
14:15So I start dancing with her and...
14:17..and there's not much arms involved.
14:19I'm just sort of doing a little two-step to try and, like,
14:22roll myself up.
14:23And she's so unimpressed...
14:24LAUGHTER
14:25..she's so unimpressed that I just bailed and left.
14:28Ooh!
14:29I just can't do this.
14:30Ooh!
14:31Ooh!
14:32You should have fainted in the...
14:34..and leave Madonna in the dance floor.
14:37LAUGHTER
14:38The next day, I'm telling my family on FaceTime,
14:42who's having a family dinner, about my evening and the Oscars,
14:44they wanted to know all the gosses,
14:46and I end up telling them this story.
14:48My dad is wetting himself, my mum is cringing,
14:51and then my little brother Paddy goes,
14:53Who's Madonna?
14:59Oh, pray she never sees that.
15:02LAUGHTER
15:03I think a lot of people do have their signature...
15:06..do you have...
15:07..is that your signature dance move?
15:08I was going to say.
15:08That...that.
15:09You must do something better than that.
15:11That was my Madonna, I'm stressing so much dance move.
15:13OK.
15:14I think I've sort of adapted the lasso...
15:17..thing into a Spider-Man.
15:19Ooh!
15:20Oh!
15:23Wow!
15:24That's all right.
15:25It hasn't worked yet.
15:25See that!
15:26I know only I've done that.
15:28Fantastic mind.
15:28It hasn't worked yet.
15:30John, you look like a man who has a signature dance move.
15:32Of course I have a signature dance move.
15:33What is it?
15:34What is it?
15:34It's, uh, in order to dance without getting hurt,
15:37I stretch, so I just make the stretching into the dance.
15:40Oh, can you see?
15:41It's called the lunge.
15:42Oh!
15:43It's got a name!
15:44Yeah, yeah, yeah.
15:44It's the crunt lunge.
15:45Yeah, you can just...
15:46The crunge.
15:48You're going to need some space.
15:49Oh, OK.
15:50Do you want some music?
15:51No, no, it's...
15:51Sure, yeah, that would be less embarrassing.
15:53OK.
15:53Yeah, let's have a little bit of it.
15:55Can we have...
15:56Can we have a bit of Kylie?
15:57Oh, do we have...
15:57Oh, is it Kylie?
15:58No, perfect, yeah.
15:59Here we go.
16:02Yeah, come on!
16:03Do the lunge!
16:04Do the lunge!
16:05Do the lunge!
16:06Yeah, that's the lunge!
16:07Yeah, yeah, yeah.
16:07Oh, yeah, yeah.
16:08That's the lunge!
16:11Oh, let's go!
16:13Oh!
16:14Oh!
16:18Oh!
16:20Oh!
16:22Oh!
16:25Absolutely.
16:28I'll tell you, that's how I met Madonna.
16:39Do you have one please do something after that
16:45She said you're the best. Oh, that's she said I pulled the quad so I hope
16:52I'm not sure the audience to top that. Let's see. So where is do I pronounce this Jimmy Jimmy?
17:02I don't know this dance. What's it called the turkey? It's called the turkey. Okay
17:09You owe she's a choreographer
17:14Okay, Jimmy has created this dancers have it's called the turkey. When did you make this up today?
17:22Long time ago, so this should be good then you've been working on it
17:26Okay, and what Kylie track have you selected and I should be so lucky
17:33Okay, I hope it suits the turkey. Can you do it on the step? Okay, this is Jemay giving hers
17:38her turkey to I should be so lucky
17:41I should be so lucky
17:53Have you ever have you ever got lucky doing that?
17:59It works better with the sound you gotta do like a
18:01Come on
18:05That's not a dance move. That's just a turkey impression
18:10When we do animal impressions, you'll be back
18:15Oh, this is gonna be good. Where's drew Donald? Oh, there's drew now you are giving us to
18:21Yeah, so the first one is
18:24Prayer prayer catch the flower. Okay, prayer prayer catch the flower. Okay. And what's the next one?
18:29Please sir. I've got a spider on my head. Okay. Okay. We've sort of seen them
18:38Okay, so what what Kylie track are you doing them to spinning around? Oh, okay, okay
18:43So the first one you're doing prayer prayer first. Yes. Okay, so so here's the music
18:59Oh
19:13In comments, there's me in now. I'm not sure is yours going to be quite like the turkey
19:18It's not but it's a bit. It's following the same thing. Okay, what is cool? It's called the boneless chicken
19:24Boneless chicken
19:26You're so close Tom. So close. But she took the chicken and she moved it on. And she took it
19:30another level up
19:31Yeah, yeah, this is the boneless chicken and
19:34Is this genuinely a dance you would do? I have been known to do it in clubs. Okay
19:40I love it. And what Kylie track have you selected?
19:43Um, better the devil you know
19:45Better the devil you know
19:46Okay, okay, this is uh, Rhian doing the boneless chicken to better the devil you know
19:53Yeah
20:17No disrespect to the others, but the standards being
20:21Oh
20:22That took it to a different level
20:24The bar was raised. Oh, that's fun. Oh, that is so so good
20:30Amazing now tom holland returns as spider-man in the new marvel spectacular
20:42Avengers infinity war it opens on the 26th of april and so we get the idea of the avengers
20:49Superheroes come together. This is insane. Is it something 40 40 superheroes in the one film?
20:55It's something like that. It's so overwhelming when you're on set because are you ever all in one scene?
21:01Do you know what? I don't know
21:06Because I
21:07I did a lot of my scenes with benedict cumberbatch with someone else with just dots on their face who
21:13I guess later on in the process will become
21:16Benedict cumberbatch, so I don't actually know the answer to that
21:19But no, so can you tell us anything about this film?
21:22You may as well ask me about quantum physics
21:26But is this true where they they did but are you one of those people they deliberately don't
21:32Say plot details to I am I I definitely am
21:37Because but did you let something slip in the past?
21:40Why do they think you're going to tell everyone? I just tell everyone oh?
21:45things that I've spoiled and
21:48I just wasn't allowed to read the script, you know, so I'd be on set and I'd be working with
21:53actors and actresses that
21:55Were just tennis balls for that day, so I'd be texting people like hey are you in this scene with
21:59spider-man?
22:00Maybe like no, okay cool
22:01I'll just cross that one off the list of 40 people are you in this scene?
22:04So I just basically had to do a lot of background research to figure out is it like a superhero
22:10whatsapp group?
22:12I'm not in it
22:17I just did fight scenes by myself imagining what would happen. Have you seen this film yet? No, I haven't
22:23even read it
22:23I have no idea what it's about which is actually quite fun because I get a ticket for one
22:30Yeah
22:32So the excitement of being spider-man because this is your third fourth third my third my third yes
22:39So is it still as exciting as it was or are you a bit kind of blasé about being spider
22:44-man now?
22:44No, I mean you can't really I mean
22:46I remember seeing avengers one with one of my best friends tom hutton in the cinema as a kid so
22:51excited
22:52And now i'm in it, you know
22:54I'm walking around with iron man and captain america and I can now kind of call them peers and stuff
22:58So it's it's still pretty surreal
23:00But uh
23:01This one's definitely been a whirlwind. It's been insane and what's sweet is because I think a lot of actors
23:06when they get roles like this
23:07They have to say oh, yeah, no, it's a thrill
23:09But for you this is genuine because you post these incredibly sweet pictures
23:13Uh, this is you as a young boy
23:17I mean you are playing with yourself
23:26But that is so sweet and then this one this is amazing you were I think back in your house
23:30and you found this
23:32Yeah
23:33So that was genuinely yours
23:34That was my first ever spider-man costume. Yeah, which my lovely mum who's here tonight kept for me
23:39And now were you one of those kids you like wore it to funerals and weddings?
23:43I slept in that thing that thing still stinks today
23:46There's no washes that can make that thing wearable
23:50All right
23:52Am I right in thinking that the spider-man outfit is as it as we knew it is gone now?
23:57No, well, yes, yes, it is basically
24:00Essentially in this film I have a new suit which tony stark gave me it's an upgrade and uh, it's
24:06too
24:08Fantastical to exist in real life. So I essentially there it is. That's the first time I've seen it. Wow,
24:12it looks great
24:13So essentially I have to wear
24:18Essentially pajamas I wear these pajamas with balls on them that light up and it's super cool. It's not
24:25You know, I'm on set with the avengers who are wearing costumes that you know cost hundreds of thousands of
24:30dollars made by the best seamstresses
24:31You can imagine and I'm there in a suit made by marks and spencers, you know, it's just it's
24:36Marks and spencers is in english
24:38Of the highest quality
24:42Graham's it
24:44Absolute autograph collection, hello
24:45Yeah
24:50Oh
24:51Oh
24:53Because john krasinski you were nearly in this world weren't you the marvel wow make me feel great
25:00Look at this poster john you almost hit that
25:05Yes, I was uh probably
25:08You know 16th choice for captain america, but you were in the costume and everything. I mean you got pretty
25:14close. Yeah, I got to the suit
25:15It was a pretty big day for me. I was nerding out completely and I I got to say for
25:19a split second there
25:20I was feeling really good about myself
25:23This guy comes up and they give you the suit you get it
25:26They give you the suit and I was actually putting the suit on and I was like oh my god
25:29This is so amazing and through the hallway came chris hemsworth dressed as thor and he's like you're all right,
25:35and I went no
25:36I'm not
25:48Yeah, when you see chris hemsworth with next to no clothes on you don't want all of a sudden be
25:53like I want to take my clothes
25:56I
25:56Imagine how I feel though these are tall bloats. They're like tall and
26:01I'm not that tall. I remember doing a scene on a planet and there's all these like little dips and
26:06rocks and stuff
26:07And I just said to myself in rehearsal just find a rock, you know
26:10Waste up just find a nice rock and it'll be fine first rehearsal
26:13I hop up on the rock and I'm working with chris pratt, you know chris he's huge
26:17I was like chin height, you know i'm happy i'm happy here
26:21And then they're setting up the lights and stuff i'm hanging out and I end up in a hole
26:25And I said to myself just make sure that you're not here when they're action
26:30I literally stood in this little hole
26:34Smaller than all these people and i'm going to be fly i was waist height
26:38And i spent three days like this
26:40It was awful
26:42And let's not forget kylie minogue's kiss cats work in the seminal film
26:47Mm-hmm street fighter
26:55Next one's even better let's see that look at her go
27:00Yeah
27:01That looks like it hurt yes
27:03No because when you did that did you kind of think yeah, yeah kylie minogue action star i'm gonna do
27:09this uh no i was mistaken
27:13But the training was fun yeah
27:16Like i mean look i'm so puny they had to really build me up
27:20Um and my yeah my my body changed shape and i was really strong and did you keep it up
27:24no no okay
27:26Now emily you've done some action films you've been on here talking about them but this december
27:32You take on one of the greatest superheroes that's of all time that's true
27:38mary poppins
27:39yes
27:41which is
27:43Imagine equal you know sort of cool and terrifying at the same time well it yes
27:47i think it did feel quite terrifying at first and rob marshall who
27:52directs this film and he's absolutely fabulous he is a friend i'd worked with him before he called me and
27:58left this very ceremonious message on my phone he was like em it's rob call me back
28:03so i did and he was like we're doing mary poppins and i want you to be mary poppins and
28:08i was just like oh my god
28:11so thrilling and and and scary you know because
28:15i think she is so iconic and julie andrews is so iconic that
28:19you know is a big thing to take on but ultimately it'll just be my
28:22version of her and this version is mostly filmed here am i right we filmed everything here oh wow
28:28yeah so john you got to spend time here absolutely yeah now is it correct do we need to apologize
28:33were we not that welcoming to you no no most people are so welcoming um
28:39but customs agents not so much
28:41i'm sure customs is a pain for everybody right it's a little bit of like i got somewhere to be
28:45no you guys love it perfect they live here it's quite easy to get here you just walk through
28:51i'm in the line of 1800 waiting no i went up to when she was shooting i was shooting something
28:57in montreal so i flew back to see the kids and and my wife um and uh i remember going
29:03through customs
29:04everything was fine and and then one week just got unlucky and there was a guy about my age seemed
29:09a bit grumpy and he said um let me see and he said yeah he said uh you're an actor
29:14and i said yeah he goes
29:15what do i know you from i said i don't know if you'd know i mean we did the american
29:18version of
29:19your british office strike one oh i love that show the uk version i was like i get it i
29:29get it
29:29and then he said uh who are you visiting i said my wife and he said is she an actress
29:32and i said yeah
29:33he said uh would i know her i said i don't know and he said what's her name and i
29:36said emily blunt as
29:37he was writing something and he went you you yeah and he goes all right get out of here like
29:48stamped
29:49my passport with a fury john also i i did encourage him that he would be welcome more if he
29:56stopped
29:56wearing a baseball cap because i just said you look so american nobody wears baseball caps oh that
30:01makes it better you look so american i just wanted you to blend in that's just called prejudice is what
30:07he went out and bought himself a tweed flat cap no he looked awesome was that good no he looked
30:14like
30:14something out of a guy ritchie film you look great and he walked down the street and it was like
30:19the sun came out because suddenly a guy turned to him and he went all right what does that say
30:25about
30:25your country that's like well if you lose the baseball hat that's what it says it's that simple
30:31then and was it nice because presumably having your children spending time here was quite nice
30:35because are they american children you said it kind of sneering me
30:45put your cap on you'll be fine yeah exactly you're like dry heaved you're like are they are americans
30:51have you given birth to oh god it's worse it's worse in the film and then an american came out
31:00of her
31:01i mean they are semi-american they did become um quite uh well my oldest daughter became quite british
31:12sounding over the course of the year that i was here for mary poppins and she was sort of saying
31:16things like bath and water and now she's back to water
31:24if you want the posh english voice kyle you know you have a trick is this is this like the
31:30boneless
31:30chicken did you develop this trick yourself if i yes i did i don't know why but um to sound
31:38very
31:39british but more specifically like a couple of pims by 10 30 a.m kind of british oh yeah you
31:46just don't
31:46let your lips touch
31:53honestly i guarantee a track you're going to balance it's just it's perilous
32:06and i won't try it graham
32:08i can't i've had several pims
32:15now news time approaches uh kylie this new album which i have actual copy here
32:27it's finally out today and you know i was lucky enough to hear something earlier and you know how
32:32much i love it so um the reviews i mean you must be thrilled everyone this is i'm pretty tough
32:38yeah
32:39i'm just i'm pleased that it's worked yeah it's such a it's my guess it's like making a film it's
32:44such a journey to even just launch into it again like the 30th year of my career in music to
32:50go can
32:50i do this yeah i think i can do it i'm really happy with the results because you talk about
32:54how personal
32:55this album is a lot of the tracks are i mean really love like this some love letters to your
32:59fans
33:00there's songs about your relationship with music and things but i read an interview where you were
33:04saying that when you started writing the songs they were just too personal they didn't work they
33:09were rubbish and i'm really glad they were rubbish because i'd just gone through a breakup yawn and um
33:16and so i kind of just got all this stuff out of my system and then you know i'm searching
33:20for the
33:21song searching for what's what is the dna of this album what's it going to be and kind of six
33:26months in
33:26got to nashville and it all made sense and by that time i'd reclaimed myself i felt great i felt
33:33absolutely so happy to be working and kind of you know um on my own path again so it turned
33:40it
33:41transpired that the the good songs came later which i'm really happy about and this is a sweet thing
33:45kind of going full circle uh that in uh australia the album's going to be promoted by your original
33:52label from 30 years ago yes yeah yeah so i signed with um a company called mushroom records in 87
34:00this is a long time ago right
34:05i see this is kind of cool because see this album
34:16it's older than a guest
34:17look at that hat you can't look at that without what it the brim hat yeah it's not really a
34:25hat is
34:25it it's more of a just a rim it's a brim yeah yeah so that was the thing i probably
34:30not yeah but that's
34:39that's what i'm talking about yeah but this is the album that started at all yeah dude god i can't
34:47believe it so i signed with um this company yeah in 87 so it's over 30 years ago and and
34:53i'm still

36:45life ever um there was one day where the children just pushed me too far and i just thought no
36:49you're
36:50sitting in silence i'm not having it um and there's one boy he's usually quite studious and he was
36:54doodling in the corner and i thought absolutely not i'm going to make an absolute showcase out of this
36:58so i brought him up to the front um and he brought his doodle with him and i did the
37:01classic teacher
37:02stuff of you've made a mockery out of your education you've made a mockery out of the education of
37:06everybody in this classroom proper going ham on him um and then uh he started crying and i thought
37:12oh why is he crying that's funny but i thought maybe i'm getting through to him finally um and the
37:15rest the rest of the class then noticed um at the same time that i did that the doodle he'd
37:20been
