00:00Iran and the United States have held hours of talks today in Geneva, mediated by the Sultanate of Oman.
00:07These talks are aimed at relieving the tensions between these two countries.
00:11U.S. President Donald Trump has assembled a vast fleet of warships and fighter aircraft in the Middle East
00:19to pressure Tehran into a deal over its nuclear program.
00:24Now, these talks today in Geneva were in two parts.
00:27The parties met indirectly for several hours with Oman's foreign minister shuttling between them.
00:34And then they took an hours-long break, came back and met for some more meetings that ended after dark
00:41there in Switzerland.
00:43Now, Oman's foreign minister had said that there was progress made, that they planned to hold technical talks in Vienna
00:50next week.
00:50That's the home of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
00:53That's the U.N. nuclear watchdog that likely would be key in any possible deal.
00:59But we did hear from Iranian state television just before the talks broke up.
01:03They insisted that Iran was going to refuse to ship any of its enriched uranium abroad and would demand to
01:10continue to enrich uranium.
01:11Those are two things that Trump has said he doesn't want to see.
01:15So it remains unclear whether or not a deal is in reach.
01:19And meanwhile, that American deployment still looms in the Middle East as a threat to potentially militarily attack Iran.
01:29And regional countries worry that any military action could spark a wider regional war.
