00:10Behind me you can hear the famous song Jai Ho from the movie Slumdog Millionaire.
00:14It is not being played on a speaker, but by the tires hitting the cut grooves on the new postal
00:19road.
00:20And while the city is considered to be asleep right now, the road beneath me is singing.
00:24It was a very nice experience because first time I am going on that road because I don't know that
00:31there is something sounding very well.
00:35I am standing in one of the most coveted residential towers of South Bombay.
00:39For decades the residents of Breach Candy heard the waves of the Arabian Sea,
00:43but now all they heard are the harsh sounds of cars preaching on the road.
00:50All the residents of this area, they were like what is this?
00:56They said maybe it is some sound for some time, but this went on full 24 hours.
01:01It was like irritating like anything.
01:04Just one word you hear all day.
01:06After putting this I feel the cars are zooming in the same speed every day.
01:13In fact the cars sound is not that disturbing as this is.
01:21It's a 24-7 thing.
01:23It is very very disturbing.
01:25I have a very super senior father-in-law at home and it is disturbing to him.
01:30My son's board exams are going on.
01:33The 12 standard boards and he is sitting with his window shut the whole day,
01:37which is not really very conducive for health, but we really don't have a choice.
01:42Yet just a few meters away from this building, the sentiment shifts.
01:46A local business owner sees it as an exciting development.
01:50We show them on road road.
01:53So this is not a problem.
01:57The sound of cars came from the house and he said,
02:00even though you aren't a little owner,
02:01but they don't have any problem.
02:03They don't have any problems here or anything.
02:07They don't have any problems here.
02:08So we are in the house.
02:09They are just the same.
02:10They don't have any issues, so this is not the same.
02:24We really haven't heard the melody as much, although I know for a fact that a lot of
02:29people who live close to the coastal road, they've heard it and of course I can imagine
02:33it might be a bit bothersome to them.
02:35I do feel like it's a complete waste of taxpayers money that they used something to create
02:41a melody patch without even consulting the residents of Bombay or at least this area.
02:46Is it a world class innovation or an urban planning oversight?
02:51We spoke to both sides to find out where the music stops and the noise begins.
02:56This is Nupur Zambikar reporting for The Independent.
