01:00...facilities that will let them live there in a very prosperous way.
01:07Karabakh and East Zangazur are known to be models of post-conflict urban recovery.
01:13And there are reasons for that.
01:15Many residents have returned to settlements across the districts, towns, cities, villages.
01:20That equates to around 60,000 people living, working and studying.
01:25It's a very big area and consisting of very different types of terrain, different types of geography, climate.
01:34And of course the task for us, for the planners, for architects and for engineers is to build their sustainable
01:45and resilient ecosystem.
01:47Arale village is an example of a smart village which uses technology to find digital solutions which are energy efficient.
01:59It's not about houses only. It's about the shape of the houses.
02:04It's about the streets that we're going to use it.
02:07It's about cycling lines. It's about educational facilities, service activities, governmental service activities, job opportunities.
02:14It's all around it.
02:17Arale sits in the green zone, which means alternative sources of energy such as solar and hydropower are integrated into
02:25everyday life.
02:26The massive reconstruction work started immediately.
02:30And in a few years you can see quite a lot of residential settlement was established.
02:35Social infrastructure, international airports was built, as well as the roads and the railways were developed.
02:41It has the hotel, which attracts the tourists. They walk around this village as well.
02:47And it has a hydropower station that we have built, which generates an electricity and which is enough power to
02:54supply energy to the whole village.
03:01While challenges and problem solving are ongoing considerations, the focus is on housing being pristine, education being prioritized, employment being
03:11available and healthcare being accessible.
03:38Today, Shusha is a flourishing town.
03:42Where we can see a lot of people, we can see a lot of new buildings in the same sense
03:49that were before.
03:51Constructed from the same materials, from the using the same techniques in the same style, modern, but in very good
04:01correlation with the old style.
04:03Every town, every region, let's say, has special architectural school, which formed during centuries, sometimes millenniums.
04:13The sense of place is very essential and fundamental feeling to establish the connection with the place.
04:22Today, we have detailed drawings, more than 400 historical buildings, dozens of maps from 19, 20th century and thousands of
04:33photographs, which previously never published.
04:37And this allows us to restore and reconstruct historical buildings with high accuracy.
04:44There's no doubt that simultaneously building several smart developments is ambitious.
04:50However, it's clear to see that construction is well underway and residents are settling into their new environments.
04:57But once you do, when it comes, you elaborate.
