00:00A wonderful atmosphere in the North East as Newcastle United took on West Ham United in the opening match of
00:05the 2002-03 season.
00:07It was the 10th anniversary of the Premier League and there was a real feeling of optimism for the Geordie

00:13Sir Bobby Robson's men finished in 4th place the previous season and were in the Champions League.
00:18West Ham also finished strongly in 7th under Glenn Roder. They were hoping for a repeat performance.
00:25The two of Sir Bobby Robson's summer signings made their debuts for the Magpies.
00:28Titus Bramble signed from Ipswich for £4.5 million and Portuguese midfielder Hugo Vianna who cost £8.5 million from
00:35Sporting Lisbon.
00:36But they had a number of men injured including Craig Bellamy.
00:40The Hammers had a young star in the making. Jermaine Defoe had scored 14 goals in his first full season
00:45in the Premiership.
00:46But had to start up front without a recognised strike partner.
00:49Freddy Canuti had a sore neck and Paolo Di Canio was also injured.
00:53Edouard Cissé was the only summer signing who featured. He was on loan from Paris Saint-Germain.
