00:00hi there I'm back again so talking about the intermediate rhythms for guitar
00:07strumming patterns so and once again another reminder you must be comfortable
00:13with my fundamental or beginner six rhythms so just a reminder they are
00:19common time march waltz syncopated ballad and swing if you're not fully
00:24comfortable fully intuitive and don't have these rhythms at a perfect relaxed
00:30level then you may find these intermediate rhythms are too difficult
00:35so if that's the case go back and do a little bit more study on the six
00:40fundamentals but if you are confident and you're ready to go in with these
00:44intermediates then you're ready to try them so I'm going to talk about the
00:49intermediate common time or the disco common time or the common time with
00:55syncopation I have several names for this one the reason why I call it that is
00:59because it actually starts with a common time this rhythm is in fact spread over
01:06two bars so the first first bar is in itself a perfect common time an exact
01:13carbon copy of that beginner rhythm however the second bar becomes a little bit
01:18more complicated with some syncopations in there so let's take a look
01:26I'm using a G minor chord there a bar chord also an intermediate chord we'll find
01:31out why in a moment but here's that rhythm again
01:38now quite fast so I'm going to slow it down a little bit for you and you should
01:43be able to see that common time in the first bar
01:50but in the second half of the bar it syncopates twice so hence the name I
01:55sometimes use the syncopated common time intermediate common time or common time
02:00this syncopation once more
02:11now I'll show you why we're using the G minor course because I like to teach I'm
02:18so excited by the pointed sisters which uses this rhythm starts with a G minor chord
02:24and here we go quick demonstration on that song
02:48okay so quite a difficult rhythm again with regards to technique you must be
02:54super relaxed and strumming from the wrist entirely if you're using the elbow that's
02:59not going to work the elbow is far too cumbersome but the wrist is not it's light
03:04and can move quickly like this so one more time the syncopated or intermediate
03:11common time
03:16once more a little slower
03:23thank you
