00:02Hello, welcome. We do have captain of the New Zealander, Mitchell Santana with us. He's ready to take your question.
00:09Who wants to go first?
00:12Hi Mitchell, Pratyush from TrickBuzz. It's been an excruciating wait for you. The first Super 8 game got washed out
00:18and by the time you take the field next, you would have watched all the teams in the group play.
00:23Like how difficult has the wait been and what's been the talk in the dressing room?
00:28Yeah, I guess we had a quick turnaround from getting from Chennai to Sri Lanka, so it's been a nice
00:35couple of days to reassess, see how everyone's going.
00:39But yeah, it feels like we haven't played for a few days, so it's going to be good tomorrow. Obviously
00:44a shame about the rain out the other night.
00:51Yeah, just what's the mood like in the camp? You know, you've, through no real fault of your own, you've
00:58gotten into a situation where it's almost a knockout game tomorrow.
01:02It's certainly a knockout game for Sri Lanka, so they're going to come out all guns blazing. So how do
01:06you kind of prepare for that, especially when you're playing on a surface that you would have hoped to get
01:10a few more reps in under, but we really don't have that.
01:14Yeah, I mean, it's, I guess, yeah, it is what it is. I mean, you obviously want to play every
01:19game and Pakistan, you know, are in the same boat. So yeah, I guess we'll be watching the game tonight,
01:26Pakistan, England, see what unfolds there.
01:29But, you know, again, any kind of game in Super 8 is kind of a knockout and we know that
01:34it is for us and same for Sri Lanka.
01:36So, you know, we'll be doing everything we can to yesterday and today to prepare, but also make sure the
01:43guys are fresh for another game.
01:45Clems, you can.
01:47Which obviously you played here quite often in recent years, expecting a lot of spin for tomorrow?
01:56Yeah, it looks a bit dry. But again, I think it's a fresh wicket. But yeah, I think traditionally it
02:03has been a bit slow and I guess we've been able to watch a few games here throughout the first
02:09stage as well.
02:10So yeah, I guess you get an understanding of how to operate on these wickets.
02:16Yeah, we know Sri Lanka are outstanding at home and they'll know what to do on these wickets. So for
02:22us, it's preparing accordingly and then going out to tomorrow and trying to execute your skills the best you can
02:27as a unit.
02:30Any elephant safaris as yet?
02:32Not yet, no. I mean, it's been good. We've been, you know, parked up in Colombo for a little bit
02:38now. It's been quite nice to actually be able to unpack a bag and, you know, go out and see
02:44a little bit. So it's been good.
02:47Satana, how about the preparation and how do you see the Sri Lankan challenge? Because they have a bit of
02:52a struggle so far with the back-to-back losses as well after beating Australia.
02:57How do you see the challenge from Sri Lanka? You came back here after a couple of years and you
03:02played such a good cricket throughout the past few years.
03:06Yeah, I think we know, you know, Sri Lanka are a great team, obviously. They showed that in the first
03:12stage of the group. I mean, you know, everyone's just trying to get through to the Super 8s. I guess
03:17that was the first, you know, thing to get ticked off.
03:20And then, yeah, I mean, England are a great side and we saw that on a slightly slower wicket. If
03:25you lose power play wickets at the start, it can be a challenge. But we know, you know, they've got
03:30quality all the way throughout, obviously missing a couple of players through injury. But, you know, in saying that, they're
03:35still very good.
03:36So, we know tomorrow, you know, I think we are lucky that we've played them a lot and I guess
03:41they've played us a lot. So, there's no real secrets or it's just whoever can go out there tomorrow, adapt
03:47the best to the conditions and put on a show.
03:51Just in terms of team news, are there any new concerns or is everyone fit to go?
03:57No, everyone's all right, which is good. I mean, we haven't played for a few days, so I'd hope so.
04:01But, yeah, again, we'll have another look at the pitch today, see what it looks like tomorrow.
04:05But traditionally, it's been quite slow, so we'll kind of pick our team according to those conditions. But, yeah, it's
04:12nice to have, I guess, 15 available for selection.
04:15And you yourself, you've been steering clear of any fast food?
04:19Yeah, I've ordered Swiggy once this trip and it didn't work out, so I haven't done that since. So, no,
04:24I'm all good. We've obviously got one more night to get through, but we'll see.
04:29Mitch, the fact that in India you find a lot of flat pitchers and when you come here, you know,
04:35I mean, it's a little bit spinning and turning and not very conducive or big hitting and not belters that
04:45you find in India.
04:45Is it a bit of too much to adjust?
04:49I think that's, I guess that's the challenge when you have, you know, a tournament like this in two countries.
04:54Every team is in the same boat.
04:57You know, I think where we were in the group stage, Chennai and Ahmedabad were both very flat. So, you
05:03know, I think you have to skin it differently.
05:05And then over here, I guess you're having to adjust. But, you know, I think, you know, you pick a
05:09squad of 15, knowing that you could potentially be in both countries on slightly slow wickets on, you know, on
05:16some flat ones as well.
05:17So, you know, I think we have the spin kind of options covered as well, which is nice, but it's
05:21just going out there and adjusting as fast as you can.
05:24You know, obviously traditionally it can be quite slow, but, you know, it could be good. It could be really
05:28slow.
05:29So I think it's, you know, whoever can, which team can ever do that the best, I think will, you
05:34know, put yourself in a pretty good position.
05:36Final question.
05:37Just picking up from the last question on a slightly lighter note, after bowling on the roads in India, like
05:42on a scale of 1 to 10, how itchy are your fingers to bowl at Premadas?
05:47The wicket against Pakistan was used, so I was pretty keen to have a dip on that thing. This one's
05:52a bit fresher, but again, I think traditionally there is a little bit, which is always nice as a spin
05:56bowler, because Chennai didn't give me much and neither did I'm the bad.
06:00So we might proceed a little bit tomorrow, which would be good. That's it. Thank you very much.
