00:00Welcome. We do have Mark Chapman from New Zealand. He's ready to take your questions. Who wants to go first?
00:06You can ask, please.
00:09Good afternoon, Mark. Mark, two things. One is that at this venue so far, the teams that have
00:16at first enjoyed a bit of an advantage, although yesterday Zimbabwe chased down 180 against Sri Lanka.
00:23So from that point of view, and it is a night game, do you think TOS could be a factor?
00:31And going into the Super 8 Clash, you didn't have that much of a bedding in time in these conditions.
00:39So could that be an issue?
00:44Yeah, I mean, in the subcontinent, the TOS always plays somewhat of a factor, depending on the conditions.
00:50To be honest, I haven't seen the wicket yet, so I don't actually know what the pitch looks like,
00:56so I guess it's pretty hard for me to comment right now.
01:01But yeah, I mean, there will be discussions behind the scenes with the senior leadership group
01:06as to what we want to do, and then also understanding whether Ju will play a factor as well here.
01:12And then batting-wise in these conditions, you know, whilst we haven't played in Sri Lanka yet,
01:19you know, for a lot of the guys, they've played a lot of cricket here.
01:21So, you know, I don't see that playing too much of a factor.
01:26You know, I think guys understand what they need to do on slower wickets and in turning conditions,
01:30so, you know, we're pretty confident that, you know, we'll face up to whatever conditions are in front of us.
01:39Hi, Mark. You guys, your batting has been clicking now for quite some time.
01:46You've only had a chance to bat twice across this tournament.
01:50But on the bowling side, you all have been leaking runs.
01:54Do you attribute that to the pitches over in India, or do you think it's something that you guys maybe
01:59need to work on?
02:02Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily say leaking runs, but I think in India we've seen that the pitches on,
02:08particularly on red soil, have been favourable for batting.
02:11So, you know, it's been pretty tough for the bowlers. The margins have been pretty small.
02:15I mean, you've seen, you know, a lot of games, you know, nearing that 200 score, you know, regularly.
02:21So, I think, you know, the bowlers have certainly had a little bit of a challenge.
02:25And I think here, obviously, it's slightly different with the slower nature of the pitches.
02:30You know, the bowlers will hopefully get a chance to really show off their skills.
02:34And I know that, you know, spin is probably more likely to play a part here in particular.
02:38So, yeah, we'll just wait and see what the pitch looks like.
02:42Hi, Mark. New Zealand is a very good batting side, especially against spinners in these conditions.
02:47So, Pakistan also has a very good spin attack, especially if we talk about Usman Khan.
02:52He's been talk of the town in this tournament.
02:55India also prepared for him especially.
02:58And do you think and do you say New Zealand will prepare especially for him
03:03or it will be normal for every other spinner Pakistan has?
03:09I mean, obviously, Usman Tariq has a pretty unique action with the way that he stops at the crease.
03:14So, I mean, that's something to factor in.
03:17You know, but for us, you know, as you've mentioned, Pakistan have a number of really good spinners in their
03:23side.
03:23So, you know, each of them poses their own threat.
03:27So, you know, Pakistan is one of the teams that we've played probably the most frequently over the last few
03:31years.
03:32So, you know, we're well aware of what they're going to bring.
03:35So, for us, it's just about making sure we're really clear in the way that we want to play as
03:39a team.
03:40Hi, Mark. Just a couple of things. I hope the knee is fine. It is looking pretty strapped up.
03:46And second, you guys have done really well at certain subcontinents.
03:53So, the question of playing spin is certainly not something that New Zealand cricket is worried about.
03:59But if you could talk about how you, your specific role in the middle order, because it's, now pitches are
04:05slowing down.
04:06It will, there will be a weird tear and Sri Lankan condition, they do help spinners.
04:10So, I mean, if you could talk about how you prepare against the spin, is it something that, I mean,
04:15I, yes, it's a power hitting game.
04:17But is there any special way of training, playing against the spinner that you go through your routine?
04:25Yeah, I think here, especially given, obviously, the slower nature of the pitch along with the slightly bigger boundaries as
04:32well, you have to certainly change your game plan.
04:36Yeah, I guess for me personally, batting in the middle, I could be in, potentially in the power play or
04:41in with, with very few overs to go.
04:43So, I guess, you know, specifically, specifically against the spinners, it's probably looking at different, you know, options around like
04:51whether you employ a sweep shot more or a reverse sweep.
04:54Whereas, I guess in India where it doesn't spin as much, you can, you can look to target the straight
04:58boundaries a little bit more.
05:00So, yeah, I mean, you know, each batter has their own method.
05:04But I guess for myself, it's, you know, looking at different areas of the ground to hit.
05:08And obviously, there's big pockets here, too.
05:09So, it's not all about sixes on this ground.
05:13You know, lots of twos, lots of fours, and running hard between the wickets is really important as well, particularly
05:18if it's not a very high score.
05:20You can ask.
05:21Hi, Mark. It's Shaquille Khattak from Pakistan Public TV.
05:23Mark, everyone is criticizing the ICC Super 8 stages because all of the toppers from the other groups are in
05:29group one.
05:30And from the second position are in group second.
05:32Do you think it's a little bit unfair that all of the toppers are in the one group and the
05:36others are in the second group?
05:38And second, add that, I mean, you have already mentioned about the Pakistan balling, but New Zealand top autos are
05:44doing pretty well.
05:45So, it could be a dangerous for the Pakistan.
05:49Yeah, I mean, I guess when it comes to scheduling and planning, that's not really my domain and, you know,
05:54for me to comment on.
05:55So, to be honest, I haven't really thought about it too much.
05:59And then when it comes to, obviously, Pakistan bowling has been going really well, but, you know, obviously, our batting
06:04has been going well, too.
06:05So, you know, I guess the guys will just come in, make their respective plans against their bowlers, and then
06:09try and execute on the day.
06:11You need to understand the specific relevant questions has to be asked.
06:15I mean, the questions that the player cannot ask, you should not ask. That's unfair. Okay?
06:23How big an advantage it is to play all your three Super 8 matches at the same venue?
06:29Yeah, I mean, absolutely. I think, you know, when you play in these tournaments, I guess one of the challenges
06:37is hopping from venue to venue and adapting.
06:40And I guess, you know, playing all three games here, we'll learn each game as we go.
06:45So, yeah, I think, you know, for us, it's quite nice to be able to turn up to the same
06:49place and the same venue, similar pitches and adjust.
06:52So, I mean, tomorrow is our first game here, so we're going to have to adapt anyway.
06:56But, you know, we'll look at that later on and understand the conditions a little bit better.
07:01So, I think, yeah, certainly something that we're not complaining about.
07:04Final question.
07:05Just in terms of team news, is Santner feeling all right because he missed the game last game because he
07:11was a bit unwell?
07:12And are there any other concerns?
07:15Yeah, Mitch Santner, he looks pretty sprightly, so I think he's pretty excited to get back on the park.
07:21You know, barring any last minute sickness, I think he'll be there.
07:26Obviously, Lockie has left us. I think he's currently on the way back.
07:31So, yeah, so I think he's landing potentially tonight.
07:34So, we'll just see how he pulls up from the flight.
07:37So, yeah, I can't confirm or say whether he'll be in the 11 or not.
07:41I'm not too sure to be honest.
07:42I'm not too sure to be honest.
07:42Thank you very much.
