00:00Spread lines on a Monday. Gotta love it here. And by the way, you might look at that college basketball
00:04card tonight and say, there's barely any games, but they are giving us, Joe, a nice big Monday here at
00:097 o'clock at 9 p.m.
00:11So why don't we start our spread lines right here with Houston and Kansas from Allen Fieldhouse.
00:16Taking a look at the start time for this, 9 o'clock overnight, Joe.
00:19Minus one and a half as a road team favorite for Houston.
00:22You wake up this morning, now we're seeing two and a halves across the board as a favorite for the
00:26Houston Cougars.
00:27The total in this game also on the rise, 135 and a halves or so.
00:31They're now up to 137 and a halves and as high as 138 and a halves, depending on where you're
00:35shopping at.
00:36The number one offense in the Big 12 coming to town, that's Houston.
00:39The number two defense in the Big 12 coming to town, that is Houston, Joe.
00:43Give me a spread line. Houston, Kansas tonight.
00:47Donnie, just to give folks an idea of what's going on here, because the numbers are absurd here.
00:53Either Kansas is going to lose two straight at Allen Fieldhouse, and Bill Self is going to lose his first
01:00ever Big Monday game at Allen Fieldhouse,
01:04where, by the way, he is 40-0 at Kansas, or Houston is about to lose three straight.
01:10A team that before the week had lost a total of five games in their time in the Big 12.
01:17Neither seems feasible. Can there be a tie, Donnie? Is there a prop for a tie here?
01:23Listen, it's a coin flip, right? Both of these teams seem to be reeling right now.
01:29Not a, I mean, embarrassing loss, the worst kind against Cincinnati at home over the weekend for Kansas.
01:35Listen, no shame in Houston and losing to Arizona, even at home.
01:39But my goodness here, there is what something has got to give between these two teams.
01:45You want to talk about a true coin flip? That's what this game is here tonight, Donnie.
01:50Which team shows up? It should be a must-watch game here tonight for sure.
01:57I'll tell you what else is must-watch too. Darren Peterson, does he want to play five minutes, 10 minutes,
02:0115 minutes, 20 minutes,
02:02or maybe not even play at all tonight? That's always half the game here, showing up and seeing.
02:06He's perfect for the NBA. We don't know if this guy's playing on a day-to-day basis.
02:09Make sure you watch right up until game time, and even sometimes at game time, you know what?
02:13I'm feeling a little under the weather tonight. I think I'll sit this one out.
02:16Always fun, Houston, Kansas. That'll be center stage at 9 p.m.
02:19Let's flip it over to the ACC, Joe. 7 o'clock start tonight.
02:22That's between Louisville and North Carolina. Overnight, that line sitting at 2 1⁄2.
02:26Still sitting at most outlets right now, Joe, 2 1⁄2.
02:29The line that's moving here is the actual total, 160 1⁄2 or so.
02:33Now seeing it, 162 1⁄2 across the board. I love matchups like this.
02:37Louisville plays with a lot of tempo.
02:38Louisville absolutely loves to shoot the three-point shot.
02:42And my favorite part about this, a team that is number one in shot attempts from three-point range in
02:46conference play,
02:47going up against a team, Joe, that's 18th at defending the three-point line here.
02:52If the three-ball goes down, Louisville should overpower them.
02:54But Louisville is the road team tonight, Joe.
02:57Give me a spread line, Louisville and North Carolina in the ACC.
03:00Well, because we're getting ready to close out the month of February, Donnie, right?
03:03It's crunch time here.
03:05And now this game is not that important in terms of the ACC title race.
03:10But, Donnie, as you know, the ACC champion, the tournament there, is a little different, right?
03:16Because the ACC gives out double buys.
03:19And right now you've got five teams that are 10-4, 10-5, or 9-5.
03:24And only two of them can get a top four seed.
03:28So the top four seeds get a double buy.
03:29And this is the game that is going to decide, could it be Louisville or is it going to be
03:34North Carolina here?
03:35But you're right, Donnie.
03:37Forget the side.
03:38I'm kind of looking at the total here.
03:40And something tells me we are – North Carolina does not defend the three all that well.
03:45Something tells me there's going to be a ton of points in this game.
03:48And that's the way I would focus.
03:50I'd look at the total between these two teams.
03:53Let's get you caught up on a Monday here in college basketball.
03:56Big weekend overall and two really good games tonight.
03:59And as I pointed out already, Joe Ranieri, from yesterday, which was Sunday, three weeks to Selection Sunday,
04:04one of the greatest days here.
04:05And away we go into the field of, I don't know, is it 64, 68, 72, soon to be 76.
04:10We'll find out if they do expand the tournament in the upcoming years.
04:14But St. John's, they've been on a win streak, Joe, on Saturday.
04:17Easily dispatching of Creighton.
04:2081-52 here.
04:2213 straight wins for the Johnnies.
04:23And they'll be facing UConn on Wednesday for a big-time battle in the Big East.
04:28Yeah, it is.
04:29I mean, and they got it done once already, right?
04:32So, there we go.
04:34Are they going to be able to do it, sweep the season series here?
04:38It's going to be interesting.
04:40But they are rolling right now, the Johnnies.
04:43And they're doing it at a ridiculous pace.
04:45They play physical basketball.
04:48It's actually fun.
04:49It's classic Patino basketball.
04:51And it's working really well for the Johnnies.
04:54By the way, last week, did you really hamstring that one in there, Joe?
04:57You took Creighton getting major points in an upset victory.
05:00And the very next night, they get dropped by 30 a couple nights later.
05:03Good call by you, Joe.
05:04Get them at the right time here, as it is.
05:06And you just watched the game on Saturday night, which is perfect timing, Joe.
05:09I think it started at 6 o'clock.
05:11Duke, 68-63, low scoring over Michigan.
05:14That was as good as a game you're going to get from crowd participation on a neutral court.
05:19It really felt like Michigan fans were bringing it.
05:21Duke fans have a big East Coast bias here.
05:23They end up winning that game by five points.
05:25Great stuff.
05:25And by the way, that was number one versus number three.
05:28Not even in the same conference playing.
05:30Those big-time battles we'll tune in for probably got good ratings.
05:33And Duke came out ahead, 25-2 now on the season.
05:36It was a great litmus test for both, right?
05:40Neither – listen, that game there, as great as it was to see this late in the regular season,
05:46it's not really going to make a big difference as far as what happens to these two teams.
05:51They're both likely going still to be number one seeds come March Madness.
05:56But I think it was a good test for both because inevitably they're likely going to face each other in
06:02March Madness.
06:03A lot of young superstars in college basketball, man.
06:06Great times here and looking forward to that tournament that is going to be coming up here.
06:09How about Arizona and Houston?
06:11Arizona goes on the road and takes down Houston.
06:1412-2 now, Arizona in the Big 12.
06:1711-3, Houston, a monster game between the number four team in the country and the number two team in
06:21the country.
06:2273-66, Zona gets it done on the road.
06:26Yeah, and Zona pretty much led from the opening tip in that game there.
06:31And it was, once again, just a terrible shooting game for Houston there at home.
06:38And, you know, now all of a sudden they're reeling here a little bit and they're going to need to
06:43figure some things out.
06:44It's not the same stifling defense that they have had over that we've come to know over the last couple
06:50of seasons with Houston.
06:51They still dominate the boards, but the shooting, unfortunately, just, it wasn't there.
06:57And Arizona was able to take advantage of it.
07:00You thought BYU was dead and buried losing Richie Saunders.
07:02It was not so fast.
07:04BYU upsets Iowa State, number six in the country.
07:0779-69, A.J.
07:09Dibansa, 29 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists.
07:12Kid can play, man.
07:13He can.
07:15Yeah, and again, what's Iowa State?
07:18Like, what version of you was that?
07:21That was just absolutely awful here.
07:24But give credit to BYU.
07:27They handled business.
07:29And really, it was decided in the first half because they went in with a nine-point lead, BYU, and
07:35didn't give up.
07:35We know they're a second-half team, but you just went down too many points, Iowa State.
07:40They didn't have enough to be able to stop BYU in the second half.
07:45Looking forward to tonight's college basketball action.
07:47Not a lot of great games on the card.
07:49They should have said not a lot of volume, but they did give you two good ones.
07:51One at 7 o'clock, Joe.
07:52One at 9 o'clock tonight.
07:53First one up is Louisville and North Carolina in the ACC.
07:56Tempo is what Louisville is about.
07:58Number one, an average length of possession on offense, which means they get after it here.
08:03How about this?
08:03Three-point shooting, about 36% as a team in conference play.
08:07Going up against the worst defending three-point team in conference play in the ACC, UNC.
08:12Will the three balls go down?
08:13But also, Louisville is on the road, but a slight favorite over the Tar Heels, minus two-and-a-half,
08:19Joe.
08:19Yeah, UNC would have bounced back against Syracuse on the road, and now they'll be home taking on Louisville.
08:27The problem with Louisville and Pat Kelsey is that they're 1-10 against top 25 teams.
08:33It's not great.
08:34The only team they've beaten, I think, was Clemson last year at home.
08:39But, and listen, North Carolina still waiting to hopefully get back Caleb Wilson there, their stud.
08:46But they are going to, they're going to need a big effort.
08:49And Louisville, yeah, I got to see it to believe it.
08:52Like, you got to win one of these games on the road against a tough opponent in a tough environment.
08:58Still feels like we're getting a ton of points in this game here tonight, though.
09:01By the way, Mike L. Brown here, which we were waiting for him to come back, returned against Pittsburgh January
09:0617th, Joe.
09:07His last four games, 45 points, 29-29 and 19 here.
09:11That kid gets it going here, certainly from three-point range, can be devastating.
09:15By the way, he had one game, Joe.
09:16We scored that 45 points, 10 of 16 from three-point range.
09:20Daggers all over the place.
09:22Houston going to take on Kansas tonight.
09:23Houston looking for a bounce back, as we just told you.
09:26Lost to Arizona over the weekend.
09:27Again, in Kansas, what did they do versus Cincinnati?
09:31Not even show up.
09:32Houston is the road favorite at minus two and a half, Joe.
09:34Who do you trust more tonight, Houston or Kansas?
09:37I mean, impossible situation for both, Donnie.
09:41If you're a situational handicapper and you're looking like, all right, the chance of Kansas losing two in a row
09:47at Fog Allen.
09:49Not to mention, Bill Self is undefeated at home when he plays these big Monday games.
09:55He's 40-0.
09:56But Houston didn't win their last game, Donnie.
09:59As we said, they right now have a chance of losing three in a row if they don't get it
10:05done here tonight.
10:06They have only lost five games in their entire existence in the Big 12.
10:11So, you want to talk about two terrible situations.
10:15Somebody is going to break a record here tonight.
10:18I tend to think Houston will get it done here.
10:21I need to see what I'm going to get out of Darren Peterson tonight as well.
10:25It's going to be full game dominant.
10:26He should be the number one player or you can't trust this guy doesn't want to play anymore.
10:29Because Houston comes to town in the Big 12 with the most efficient offense and the number two most efficient
10:34defense here.
10:35The one thing they do well, winning basketball, Joe, always starts with protecting the basketball and turning your opponent over.
10:41How about this?
10:42Houston in conference play, number one in protecting the basketball, only 11% turnover rate.
10:46But how about defensively?
10:48Number one in conference play, turning it over at close to 19%.
10:51Defense travels, taking care of the basketball is exactly the way you win.
10:55Be a fun game to watch tonight.
10:56And as we pointed out, not great efforts over the weekend, but particularly Cincinnati going into town and crushing Kansas.
11:01How do they bounce back tonight?
11:02Well, we'll find out.
11:04It is a big Monday.
