00:00ARA History Untold is a historical forex like no other,
00:04blending epic-scale nation-building with detailed resource chain management
00:07into an unforgettable strategy game experience.
00:11In response to player feedback, we present to you the Living Strategy Update, version 1.4.
00:17This free update aims to raise the overall quality of the game in a substantial and fundamental way.
00:23Living Strategy focuses on improving map generation and readability,
00:27providing better tools to reduce excessive micromanagement,
00:30a dramatic increase to the computer opponent's game AI,
00:33deeper and more transparent combat mechanics,
00:36optimisations to the graphics engine,
00:38increased game simulation speed for quicker turn resolution, and more.
00:42In this video, we're going to take a look at these features and improvements
00:45as you build your mighty nation from humble beginnings to a glorious victory.
00:50First up, the map generator has been greatly improved
00:53to increase the amount of strategically distinct regions
00:55by around twice as many as before,
00:57with a smarter distribution of resources and better placement of player starting locations.
01:02You'll now find more rivers winding their way through your world too.
01:06We've also updated the Earth map to be more realistic looking
01:09and ensure game elements are all properly placed and balanced,
01:13ensuring the game plays well no matter which nation you pick.
01:15These improved maps should increase the density of tactical decision making
01:19and the overall strategic depth in your interactions with the other players
01:23as you expand your burgeoning empire.
01:25Put simply, better maps mean better games of Aura.
01:29Aura seamlessly blends a traditional historical 4x map view
01:33with a unique living world close-up perspective,
01:35allowing you to zoom in and inspect everything you have created on your journey to greatness.
01:39We've improved this with our new living strategy view
01:43to ensure that the player doesn't have to search for critical information
01:46even while enjoying those great visuals,
01:48blending elements of the living world close-up perspective
01:51with the broader strategic overview.
01:53Living world elements scale out as the player zooms out
01:56to keep essential information visible at all times.
02:01Armies are no longer just represented by banners on the map.
02:03Now, there's a detailed 3D army model that can be viewed no matter the zoom level
02:08and are easier to see.
02:10City and improvement banners are now clearer to see and read on the map,
02:14with improved zoom behaviour and critical information available at a glance,
02:18such as a city's quality of life statistics or an improvement's production output.
02:23You'll now see how many turns remain until a city or improvement
02:26completes its next production target too.
02:28Roads are now properly built from start to finish
02:31and side roads are more visually distinct
02:33and we've made many changes to improvement and unit scaling
02:36to reduce visual clutter and improve readability.
02:40Cities in general look better now
02:42and modern era cities are more densely built up
02:44to better represent real world population density.
02:47But you'll experience better performance in the endgame in general.
02:51The living strategy update addresses community feedback
02:53over the strength of the computer opponent's game AI,
02:56particularly in the late game phase
02:58where players generally felt that it wasn't able to keep up with them
03:01in a satisfying way.
03:02The AI will now better develop its cities to be more prosperous and thriving
03:06and has a better grasp of the resource economy,
03:09properly managing its improvements
03:10to ensure ingredient and crafting booster usage
03:13isn't going to stall its economy.
03:15In preparation for war,
03:17the AI players will build larger army formations than before
03:20and are much more adept at the art of war once one does break out.
03:24Aggressive nations are particularly inclined to build more armies
03:27and pose a far greater threat as a result.
03:30The computer opponent will also decommission scouts
03:33when they're no longer useful
03:34and will no longer try to bribe you while you're at war.
03:37The game AI should now be a lot more competent throughout the game.
03:40You'll generally find the game more challenging overall
03:43as the AI forces you to make more nuanced strategic decisions
03:46from game start right through to the finish
03:48as you race your opponents for a place on the podium.
03:51We've made serious efforts to reduce excessive micromanagement
03:54when interacting with the supply chain management system.
03:58Citizens have better AI
03:59and can automatically select items from your resource inventories
04:02to self-supplied dwellings, crafters and harvesters
04:05based on their immediate needs.
04:07Citizen behaviour can be guided with in-game policies too
04:10and these policies will override a citizen's preference
04:13so you can still manage these yourself if you want.
04:16This will be a welcome addition for players
04:18who don't like to manually manage all those improvements in their cities
04:21and should dramatically reduce excessive micromanagement.
04:24And for those who do enjoy that
04:26this new option can be deactivated completely.
04:29ARA History Untold's combat system has been tweaked
04:32and the battle panel updated with new functionality.
04:35As a result, combat is now both deeper and easier for you to read.
04:39Armies now have the option to disengage from battle.
04:42While the battle panel has been overhauled
04:44with a new battle advantage section
04:45here, the player can access tooltips
04:48that explain how the various combat mechanics currently in play
04:50all work together.
04:52When armies are using different damage types in combat
04:54the battle panel will now show those too.
04:57This improved battle viewer will ensure
04:59that the results of your decisions made before combat starts
05:02are much easier to analyse
05:03and this should make for a more exciting combat system overall
05:06allowing you to experiment with different army compositions
05:09to face your opponents with.
05:11As part of a greater push to improve ARA's overall performance
05:14the graphics engine has been optimised to reduce GPU memory usage.
05:18You'll notice a much improved framerate stability
05:20particularly in Act 3
05:22when cities are larger and more densely packed with detail.
05:25We've also improved the game's scene rendering
05:27to sharpen up its visuals overall.
05:29Coupled with the improvements to the living strategy view
05:31ARA has never looked so good.
05:34Version 1.4 makes numerous adjustments to the game's simulation
05:37to decrease overall CPU usage
05:39turn processing times
05:41and increase user interface responsiveness.
05:43The overall effect will be a smoother experience for you as you play
05:46allowing you to properly focus on strategic decision making
05:49and enjoying the simulation free of lag or slowdown.
05:52Finally, as you'd expect
05:54the living strategy update includes many bug fixes
05:56to address problems found and reported by the community.
05:59We've also made another substantial balance pass
06:01to make adjustments for all the changes implemented in living strategy
06:04and to ensure the game's pacing and challenge
06:06is properly tuned for you all.
06:08This is a massive patch
06:10with the balance and bug fix pass
06:12containing changes too numerous to list here.
06:14But a link to the full changelog
06:16can be found in the description to this video
