00:00i'm just gonna say it the title alone if i had legs i'd kick you already punches you in the
00:04gut
00:04like you hear that and you know this movie is going to say something deeper something a little
00:09offbeat a little angry maybe even a little broken and let's be real who hasn't felt like that like
00:16you're trapped stuck in place screaming inside and all you want to do is lash out just to feel
00:22like you're alive again that's where this movie hits because this isn't just some quirky indie
00:27flick with a weird title and big name actors doing serious roles no this movie feels like that quiet
00:33part of your life you try to hide the resentment the exhaustion the part of you that's still holding
00:38it together but just barely and when you see rose burn as linda you see that she's a mom she's
00:45tired
00:45her kid is sick with something no one can explain her husband nowhere gone emotionally physically
00:52who knows maybe she doesn't even know and it's not like she's a saint about it either she's angry
00:59frustrated sarcastic funny even in that dark bitter way people get when they've been pushed too far for
01:06too long and that's what makes her real let me break it down for you rose burn plays linda and
01:12linda is
01:13all of us she's trying to keep her life together while everything around her is falling apart
01:18the bills are piling up her child is getting worse her therapist played by conan o'brien yes that
01:25conan is more awkward than helpful and the more she talks to him the more she seems to unravel the
01:30therapy sessions aren't healing her they're like little bombs every conversation leaves a bruise
01:36and then there's this missing person we don't know who it is right away but it haunts the story like
01:41a
01:41shadow it's there in the corners of the frame it's there in linda's eyes when she zones out it's in
01:47the
01:47way she talks too fast in the way she avoids certain questions the movie doesn't scream it at you
01:53it just lets it simmer but what makes this story hit hard isn't just the plot it's the feeling
01:58you ever feel like the world's moving and you're just standing still like people are talking to you
02:04asking things of you needing things and all you can think is i don't even know who i am right
02:09now
02:09that's linda that's this whole movie it's not loud it's not flashy it's a quiet spiral a slow aching
02:17descend into a version of yourself you don't even recognize anymore and what's wild is how much
02:22comedy there is in all this chaos but not haha funny i'm talking i laugh because i'm hurting funny
02:28the kind where you chuckle and then a second later your chest feels tight that's what a 24 movies do
02:34right they make you feel weirdly seen and uncomfortably exposed let's talk about the
02:40cast for a sec because this lineup is insane in the best way you've got rose burn obviously she's
02:46been funny and stuff like bridesmaids and neighbors but here she's raw like skin peeled off raw then
02:53there's conan o'brien who plays her therapist now listen i didn't expect conan to act let alone in a
02:59role like this but he doesn't try to be funny he plays it so straight it's unnerving like he's not
03:05trying to help her he's trying to fix her like a puzzle and he keeps forcing the wrong pieces
03:10together and asap rocky yeah he's in this too his role is small but intense he kind of floats in
03:17and
03:17out of the story like a ghost and every time he shows up the energy shifts he plays someone from
03:23linda's
03:24past someone who knew her before life broke her down and their scenes together man you can feel
03:30that tension the kind where you want to scream at the screen just say what you're both thinking
03:34there's also danielle mcdonald ivy wolk delaney quinn all of them play characters who are orbiting
03:40around linda's collapse some try to help some just make it worse and that's life right not everyone in
03:47your life is there to save you some people are just there watching or leaving or pretending not
03:54to notice the way you're drowning let me tell you about the plot no spoilers don't worry but just
03:59enough to give you the vibe linda's kid is sick not like flu sick like doctors are confused sick
04:05it's mysterious it's scary and that alone would be enough to break most people but at the same time
04:11her husband disappears no goodbye no explanation just gone so she's left to deal with the hospital
04:19visits the bills the paperwork and the questions alone that kind of isolation it doesn't just hurt
04:26it changes you on top of all that there's this missing person thread someone who mattered someone
04:32whose absence means something and linda doesn't want to talk about it not to her therapist not to her
04:38friends not even to herself and this is where it gets deeper because the movie isn't just about
04:43what's happening outside it's about what's going on inside linda it's about how trauma doesn't always
04:49look like screaming and crying sometimes it looks like grocery shopping in silence or forgetting how to
04:55laugh or telling a joke so dark even you don't know if you mean it the whole film is built
05:00like a slow
05:00burning fuse every moment adds pressure every conversation peels back another layer and when things do
05:07you finally break you feel it in your chest you don't even need explosions the silence is loud
05:13enough and the direction man mary bronstein gets it this is the same filmmaker who gave us yeast back
05:20in 2008 a weird uncomfortable unforgettable film and now she's back after all these years with something
05:27even sharper even more personal she writes like someone who's lived this like someone who's been in that
05:33exact chair crying without making a sound the way the camera lingers the way scenes don't cut when
05:38you expect them to it creates this mood like you're eavesdropping on something you're not supposed to
05:44hear and you can't look away and the title if i had legs i'd kick you it sounds funny at
05:48first right but
05:50it's not it's painful it's about powerlessness about wanting to fight back but not having the strength
05:56or the will or the ability it's what you scream when the world breaks you down and you can't do
06:02anything but wish you could fight back i know i've felt like that and maybe you have too like when
06:08life
06:08knocks you flat and you're so tired you can't even cry or when someone hurts you and you just smile
06:13through it because it's easier than explaining the pain that's the emotion at the core of this movie
06:18that's what makes it so haunting the reviews from sundance 88 on rotten tomatoes that's no accident
06:25critics felt this one but what matters more is what you feel this isn't a movie you rate it's a
06:31movie you remember so when's it coming out october 10th limited release so that means new york louisiana
06:38first the rest of us we'll probably have to wait a bit but honestly it's worth it this isn't a
06:45movie
06:45you watch on your phone while scrolling tiktok this is one of those sit in the dark phone on silent
06:50fully locked in kind of films and yeah there's no uk release date yet but if 824 knows anything
06:57it's that good stories travel so just be patient it'll get there let me wrap this up real quick
07:03if you've ever felt invisible if you've ever wanted to scream but didn't have the words if you've ever
07:08had to smile when your world was falling apart then if i had legs i'd kick you as your movie
07:12it's raw
07:13it's messy it's funny in a sad way sad in a funny way it hurts but it heals so do
