00:01After a decade of military deployment, Washington is turning the page on Syria.
00:06The United States has officially begun steps to end its military presence there,
00:10concluding that the mission is no longer necessary.
00:14Around 1,000 U.S. troops are preparing to leave Syrian territory
00:18in a move that signals a clear shift in Washington's on-the-ground priorities.
00:23The decision comes amid a declining role for the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces
00:28in combating ISIS, alongside a new American assessment
00:31that the Syrian government has taken the lead in counterterrorism efforts.
00:36In practical terms, the United States has completed its withdrawal from the Al-Tanf base
00:41near the Syrian-Jordanian-Iraqi border triangle,
00:44as well as from the Al-Shaddadi base in northeastern Syria.
00:48The remaining sites are expected to be vacated within the next two months.
00:53A senior U.S. official said Washington will retain the ability to intervene
00:58militarily if necessary, particularly in the event of renewed ISIS threats,
