00:01The West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner says young people could play a key role in
00:06improving the use of stop and search powers in the region. Simon Foster, the elected official
00:12who scrutinises the force, said that in January 2026, just 34% of the 2,339 stop and searches
00:22carried out resulted in further police action. He said the force would launch youth scrutiny
00:28panels with 14 to 24 year olds reviewing anonymised body worn video footage and data before providing
00:36feedback to senior officers. The panels are expected to meet at venues with feedback used
00:42to inform officer training.
