00:02American civil rights leader Jesse Jackson has passed away aged 84.
00:08Beverly Lindsay, chair of Birmingham's Association of Jamaican Nationals,
00:12said she first met him in Chicago in 1993 while she was part of a trade mission from Birmingham.
00:19She said she was invited first to join him at church and then to his home for breakfast.
00:24It was just like visiting one of my relatives on a Saturday morning, she said.
00:28She described meeting him as an honour and a privilege.
00:32She said he was proud to be black and proud of his people.
00:35Jackson visited Birmingham in 2008 and again in 2013 when they met for a second time.
