00:20I'm here to show a peek at Jack Kerouac's original typescript scroll for On the Road.
00:28We'll be selling it on March 12th as part of the Jim Irsay sale.
00:34It is an amazing artifact of beat literature, American literature broadly.
00:43Kerouac, in April 1951, sat down at his typewriter and he constructed a 120-foot scroll of paper.
00:55He cut long strips of tracing paper and taped them together so that he could sit down, write completely uninterrupted,
01:06just letting the words hit the page full steam ahead.
01:13You can kind of feel that energy and caffeine and just coming off of it.
01:20I mean, it runs single spaced without paragraph breaks.
01:26You know, it's just, it was sort of an experiment for him to get the story out, but it ended
01:35up kind of becoming the work itself.
01:38The estimate is $2.5 to $4 million.
