00:00There are more people in work than there were this time a year ago, but I do
00:05recognize that there are challenges, particularly around young people leaving
00:10school, college and university. The Covid generation of young people who did miss
00:16out on so much during those years and as a government we are determined to do
00:20everything we can to support them. For example, through more apprenticeship
00:25places, more college places and more support to help young people find work.
00:33But at the same time, we value the fact that wages over the last year and a half
00:40have risen at a faster rate than prices and that is something that didn't happen
00:44under the previous Conservative government, which is what contributed to the terrible
00:48cost of living challenges that people face. So we want to get that balance right.
00:52People deserve a fair day's pay for a hard day's work, but we also need to do
00:57more to ensure that young people have those opportunities.
